Hi Ryan, I think you have a pretty good grasp of the rules. In answer to your questions: Why wasn't it LBW? The ball has to be judged to have gone on to hit the wicket if the ball had not hit the batsman's leg/body. In this case, yes, I think it was a little high and probably going down leg (i.e. it would have passed outside leg stump - the one on the side where the batman's legs are, rather than his bat, which is off stump). Yes, if the player attempting to take a catch on the boundary steps on or over the boundary, it is not out and is a 6. Yes, you cannot stump or run out a player if he is behind the crease (the line in front of the wicket). Yes, if either bail (the small rod sitting on top of the stumps) is dislodged, it is out.

Individual sports (like AFL like to promote myths about being the most popular sport in the country, but cricket is the only sport that is equally popular in every state, and every schoolyard. Sports like AFL are most popular in certain states, and clearly less popular in others. And every year as around 100,000 gather in the MCG for the Boxing Day Test Match there is no doubt about the universal popularity of the game. Cricket is the national sport.

Most Brits don't follow Cricket because of the 5 day Test Match thing that makes it seem boring to watch so it's refreshing to see someone from the US taking not just an interest but actually liking the sport overall especially since it's not really a thing across the pond. A lot of people are put off by the overly complex terms for field positions such as Silly point (daft place to stand and likely to be hit in the face with the ball) , Long off/on (near the boundary to try and catch a wayward 6 attempt or stop a 4) , and say slips (where the fielders line up a bit behind and to the Batsman's favoured hand to catch any edges from the bat) along with many others so honestly good on you for taking this on and trying to adapt to it all. The sport is so good and well worth the effort to understand as you have with Snooker too. This is why I am always going to be subscribed and always recommend your channel. Keep up the good work Sir :)

(1:30) it's not a "Leg Before Wicket" because he hit it with his Bat. You can hear the strike. (also, yes, it was bouncing too high). It's "LBW" if the Bowler bowls the ball in line with the wicket and it hits the Batsman's legs without him striking the ball, also the Umpire must deem that it would have gone on to hit the wicket. And then we all heard you say "I really like Cricket", no backing out now Ryan, it's on the record.

Ryan you’re starting to understand the rules. You got the rules right. MLC (Major league Cricket) is currently on in America. It’s in its 2nd season, you should try to catch a game on tv. It’s T20 so it’s only about 3 hrs, shorter than a baseball and football game and definitely shorter than the last 5 mins of an NBA game which seems to go on for days with all the timeouts and ads. Sorry I have an issue with trying to watch the NBA the ads and timeouts drive me nuts. 14 time outs. Enjoy the cricket.

@Jus7aguy5 ай бұрын
That last one was correct, it bounced off his partner and was caught without ever hitting the ground, so it was caught "on the full" having not hit the ground. The 2nd last one he was stumped not bowled, because it bounced off the wicket keeper and hit the stumps while the batsman was outside the crease. (not the box, it's the line on the ground), effectively being the same as if the wicket keeper had caught the ball and thrown it into the stumps while he was outside the crease. It was totally a fluke/accident, but still legal.

yeah..at the boundary lane (which can be a rope or an advertising triangle) ..the fielder cannot touch that line with the ball in hand..in the first one even though the fielder threw the ball to other fielder he was touching that line when he threw the ball(its in his hand still when he stepped on the boundary line) ..hence that was deemed not out and given as six..in the 2nd one the fielder was air borne..he collected the ball while in the air and threw to other fielder air borne..and the other fielder caught the ball..hence that was deemed as out (caught out)

@DucatiratiАй бұрын
😮You've sort of got it , it playing down the line as opposed to across the line , that is the line from the bowlers hand to where it bounces , so you have to account for variables so you must get the bat face as straight as the line the ball is tracking , and follow thru the line , if it deviates you be right behind the line and move away you don't chase it leave it if it cuts or swings back you will be ok as your bat and pad are closed , you need to get you rear foot closer to off stump to straiten up your stance and get behind the line of the ball , it is playing and getting in line with the ball , ball shyness is important.
@markc28475 ай бұрын
As mentioned the batsman's 'box' is the "crease". Batsmen sometimes tend to take a step or two away preparatory to running while they look to see where the ball went. This of course leaves them vulnerable to a runout if the wicketkeeper is fast on his feet.
@TheCeleron45022 күн бұрын
And a general rule of thumb for that is if the ball goes in front of the batter then it’s the batter’s call to attempt a run, but if it goes behind the batter then it’s the non striker’s (batter at the other end) call if a run is to be attempted. It all depends on which player is in the best position to make the call. It can get quite comical when you hear one player screaming YES and the other screaming NO or WAITING and doesn’t move.

@jamesdignanmusic27655 ай бұрын
The two odd spin bowler ones (the bouncer at 3:30 and the fast delivery at 6:00 ) are both strange because pace bowlers bowl at speed (130-160 kph) but spin bowlers bowl more slowly and generally much fuller so as to make the ball spin (usually 80-110 kph). Because of that the chances of them bowling a bouncer and very slim (although Shane Thomson once got the great Sachin Tendulkar out with a slow bouncer), and bowling a spinning ball at 135 kph is also very unusual indeed. BTW, it's M.S. Dhoni, not Ms Dhoni!

1st clip why batsman is not LBW? Because the batsman jumped up a little bit when the ball hit him on the pad; if the ball would have travelled it would have gone over the stumps. Thats why its not LBW, and it is well judged by the umpire not out.

they have to be in crease when ball bowled by spinner they can risk it by standing out of crease against fast bowler because keeper for spinner stands just behind the wicktet to stump out batsman but in fast bowler scenario it doesn't happens because he is bowling fast to catch that bowl to prevent to going for four keeper stands way behind the stum so that makes stumping difficult for keeper but for not getting run out batsman have to be in crease and he can leave crease after the ball and field complete umpire told to bowler to go to run up and bowl next bowl!
@TerryD154 ай бұрын
Not LBW, too high. In the 'Bouncer surprise' the ball was hit into the empty seating area and bounced back to the boundary. The main line behind which the batter must have part of his body or bat to avoid being 'stumped' is called the 'Popping Crease', don't ask me why, nor ask me to describe balls called a Googly or a Chinaman when bowled by a spin bowler.😵😵😛
@stephenlee59295 ай бұрын
Hi Ryan, 3:40, the bouncer, ball that bounces in front of batsman an flies at his face, is not unusual, but normally it happens with a fast or medium pace bowler, it is very rare with a slow (spin) bowler, that was the shocking part, batsman would not expect it, also I doubt the bowler intended it. To be fair it was probably only going at 60-70 mph, instead of 80-90mph from a fast bowler 😁. That would have been seriously frightening.
