WTH you talking about!......No, it is not. Do you know anything about world weather at all! (Not meant as a question). In England, we get hot, dry weather as well & especially further south, just like it is now as I'm posting this comment..... It doesn't even get cold here or rain that much here compared to many other countries, including many of those which we invaded. Canada & Russia, two very obvious and perfect examples, just to start off with.

Brazil was Portuguese, Britains oldest ally.
@Paralyzed187
@Paralyzed187 2 жыл бұрын
Not just our oldest ally, it's also the oldest alliance in history. "The Anglo-Portuguese Alliance ratified at the Treaty of Windsor in 1386, between the Kingdom of England and the Kingdom of Portugal, is the oldest alliance based on known history in the world that is still in force by politics - with the earliest treaty dating back to the Anglo-Portuguese Treaty of 1373. Historically, the Kingdom of Portugal and the Kingdom of England, and later the modern Portuguese Republic and United Kingdom, have never waged war against each other nor have they participated in wars on opposite sides as independent states since the signing of the Treaty of Windsor. While Portugal was subsumed under the Iberian Union, rebellious Portuguese factions and government in exile sought refuge and help in England. England spearheaded the Anglo-Spanish War on the side of the deposed Portuguese royal house. The alliance has served both countries throughout their respective military histories, influencing the participation of the United Kingdom in the Peninsular War, the UK's major land contribution to the Napoleonic Wars and the establishment of an Anglo-American base in Portugal. Portugal aided England in times of need, for example, in the First World War."

Worth pointing out, very few countries were 'invaded' by the British in terms of companies or the state. This is an error by the creator of this video. Britain was not a country until 1707. Many that [were invaded] was due to war. Companies traded and brought those countries into a sphere of influence but used local leaders and elections and did not try to impose Britishness on the countries where British entrepreneurs were present. It is also the case that most countries were not countries but empires in their own right that the British companies paid to trade with. The British did not have vast land armies. The genius was in trade and using their intellect to make the countries better off under British influence but with local rulers. The British Empire created the modern world we have today and living standards (with crop yields, life expectancy, education, sports, administration, institutions of freedom, science and technology, industrial revolution itself and more) across the world are better for it. Not popular but true. The British Empire was the single best thing that happened to humanity in its entire history. I stand by that after decades of interest in the matter. Did bad things happen? Yes, because we are human. But the British when it comes to slavery for instance, were the only country to have ended the slave trade on a moral mission at great cost to itself. The British Empire even dismantled itself without war.

"The genius was in trade and using their intellect to make the countries better off under British influence but with local rulers." @richardwills-woodward5340
@richardwills-woodward5340 2 жыл бұрын
@@mgrimble3975 The British Empire enslaved nobody, indeed the Empire rejected slavery and that is why they worked with local leaders to rule, but all through a commercial endeavour. They never - not once, took land by force for land's sake. The British Empire was not one thing - it was many things and it evolved right up to beating the Nazis in World War 2 in coalition with others, but stood alone for years. Neither did we 'rape resources' as you put it. Resources were utilised through commercial venture, and people that were otherwise destitute found themselves with jobs, administration, infrastructure, education, sports, life expectancy increasing, crop yields increasing by up t0 1,000%! Then there is the industrial revolution which has seen living standards across the world rise faster than any time in human history with mass poverty alleviation. You then have free trade, and democratic institutions (yes even in the 'colonised' of many regions. The British were by far the most civilised of those in the world at that time. Just see the places the British entrepreneurs and later the state, went... then talk to me about mass murder, from widow burning to child murder as part of their cultures. Without the British the modern world would not have been born and billions would be dead without its technology in health, science, invention, and so on. Further, no legal system would exist where habeas corpus was an issue, where jury trial an option, where parliamentary democracy exists, where slavery was illegal and the slave trade beaten in a moral mission at great cost to itself. So please, if we're going on looking at the world in context of thew time, don't start with a rose tinted view that the rest of the world were saints - they weren't and they were all playing the same game - and lost, but the British Empire was the most civilised of all, and we are living in its afterglow today. When it comes to slavery, you are part of it by writing what you wrote on a device with slavery in it. You are just the usual left wing hypocrite.

@davemac1197
@davemac1197 2 жыл бұрын
The Normans were a Norse colony, founded in the 8th Century by a Danish Viking called Rolf/Rollo. He became the first Duke of Normandy after being bought off by the French with land for not sacking Paris for the second time (they had given up their gold and silver to avoid the first sacking). Six generations later in 1066, his direct descendent, William (known as William the B*st*rd to the French) invaded England because he had a claim to the English throne. The Normans spoke French because they had adopted the language of the local inhabitants of Normandy. When they took over England, French became the official language of England until 1362, although most of the people continued to speak Old English. England invaded France and lost it again during the Hundred Years war, 1337-1453.

For a start, 'England' as such never invaded anywhere. It hardly even got round to 'invading' Scotland. However, Scotland did in fact invade England at one point, got as far as the Midlands and nearly got away with it. Some people think that the Scots have been 'invading' England ever since. And the 'Irish' were invading England many centuries ago and selling English slaves in Dublin before the whole business was quashed and outlawed through the Declaration of London in the the 12th. or 13th. century. If anyone's been to Hong Kong, one of the last UK colonies, practically all the streets names there are Irish or Scots, not 'English'. And Scotland only decided to join England in the Union after its invasion of the Panama area virtually bankrupted it. Also, the British Empire grew rather more like a supermarket 'Empire' than anything else since the 'British' (NOT the 'English') were first and foremost bothered about making money through trade - and if one has any sense one is usually careful not to upset the customers too much. Why else did Napoleon call the British' 'a nation of shopkeepers'? And, by the way, the 'England' has also had its share of being 'invaded - by the Romans (400+ years), the Danes over at least century or two, the French in 1066 (up to 2 centuries) and in the 1600's and 1700's by Barbary pirates who invaded southwest English coastal towns and kidnapped the inhabitants for sale in north African slave markets (that's very well documented). It seems a lot of people around the world don't seem to have the first clue what they're talking about, particularly when they use the word 'English'.

@@niallrussell7184 Ireland was not a colony and was not invaded. Ireland was part of the British state. Education vastly improved under the British Empire. India didn't have sanitation to begin with. Under the British their crop yields increased by over 800% and their life expectancy shot up by decades. Chinese were addicted to opium long before the British. The Chinese were trading with India and these drugs were sold by Chinese to Chinese. The trade was merely increased under the British and there was a ready market - just like in the UK with the spice drug China now sells into Britain. No indigenous people of anywhere were herded up by the British. They were 'herded up' by African empires and sold to European powers as slaves were slaves across the world. What was unique was the British abolishing the slave trad eon a moral mission at huge cost to itself for absolutely no advantage other than personal moral satisfaction. Without the British Empire, you wouldn't have computers, tv, fly in jet planes, have unified time, global communications, advanced health or science, have trains and modern transport systems and so on. The advantages far outweighed the bad. You must use the context of the time and stop applying your own moral standards to today. You are complicit in slavery as you wrote this on a phone or computer using parts from Africa mined by slaves. It is the hypocrisy I cannot stand.

The *Haitian Revolution* is briefly mentioned in *Akala's Fire in the Booth Part 4* in his story-poem opera about his character the *Knowledge Seeker* who is born and reborn in conflicts all throughout history. However if you're going to check him out, it would be better to do *Parts 1, 2 and 3* first. He's another one that people spread myth's about, mainly saying he's *a qualified teacher who teaches at Universities,* because they don't understand simple differences between an *actual degree which someone has worked for* and an *honourable degree which someone has been given,* along with the difference between the *University of Oxford* and the *Oxford Union.* He does not teach at Universities or even schools, as he has no legitimate qualifications past A level. He's basically an unqualified community worker who has community centres to help kids.

The British evolved from a mix of tribes: Angles, Saxons and Celts. These got crossed with a big influx of Vikings. Every component of this mix was originally a war-like tribe. Then add to this the British were the first to have an industrial revolution and you have a VERY marshal out-turn that ran 25% of the world.

It’s funny how and this isn’t to be rude but the biggest celebration in American history was in all due respect was in reality a side show compared to what the British had to deal with at the time and I think that the American Revolution was mostly glamorized and over exaggerated, where brave Americans defeated the villainous British empire, when in reality the American Revolution wasn’t that popular and at the time the Americans were funded and armed by the french, both the Spanish and French empires were at war with Britain, France was in its usual economic collapse, whilst Spain had its ass handed to them which resulted in the complete destruction of their empire and massive losses in their American colonies as places like Brazil and Argentina started to revolt. Not only that but there were massive civil unrest in India at the time and about ten other wars, and so the American Revolution wasn’t that big of a deal, since to the British most of the native Americans were more than happy to trade with the British and the rest of America was just too dangerous and not worth the effort in annoying the locals as well as dealing with the french, and not only that but Russia owned most of Alaska and so expanding into more snow and mountains wasn’t viable either and so America was simply abandoned since it wasn’t worth the effort, but wasn’t worth the risk to either invade less having to deal with a new and legally established nation but since it already lost it would be less financially beneficial to try again and so enjoyed a century long trade relationship since South America was rich with cotton and southerners whilst the north was an ever growing power house and so with the purchase of the former French territory, to pay for the French Revolution, and since the British were more than happy to trade with both the Indians as well as America. They simply let America be since I the natives lost so what, we still had America to trade with and if the Americans all got slaughtered then there’s still the natives and so what seemed to be a major event where an axe wielding patriot wiped out an entire British regiment, was nothing but a side show at the time.
@KingBoomer
@KingBoomer 2 жыл бұрын
This is very true. In fact both wars (Revolutionary and 1812) were technically side wars for the UK. They were fighting several other nations simultaneously while they were dealing with the Americans. So no offense taken! Most people here aren’t aware of this.

The American revolution was our Vietnam in terms of we could have kept throwing resources and men at it with not much outcome. The leaders of Great Britain did very well in they had the foresight to agree a decent peace treaty. At the right time. Anglo influence was still spread throughout the world when America grew stronger and stronger. It could very easily have been French.
@hadesdogs4366
@hadesdogs4366 2 жыл бұрын
@@themanwithnoname3636 agreed and again whilst the American Revolution is glorified and glamorized as this big national war when in reality the revolution was actually quiet unpopular since if such a thing were to happen, then they would lose the protection as well as the resources of the British empire which in reality did diddly dick when it came to collecting its taxes and whilst the only two real things to be forcefully taxed were stamps and tea, but because the British had many other things to worry about as well as admittinly the terrible leadership of most British officers at the time since whilst the British army was powerful, it was badly plagued with poor and unimaginative leaders, who whilst yes would have been more effective against a more symmetrical enemy such as the french, refused to use troops like skirmishers, scouts or even sharp shooters because of tradition. And since having a former British commander on the enemy’s side doesn’t help when they have access to, stratagems and tactics used by your own army and would be more or less be like giving the taliban, the instruction manual on how to build an effective army.

England spent around 800yrs fighting France for many reasons as a kind of on again off again relationship Around 90% of the world has been under English rule at some point in history 23% of the world at the same time at the peak Having a decent Navy and merchant ships is important when you are a small island that was cut off from the mainland in 6100BC by a huge Tsunami "The sun never sets on the English Empire"

To Bob Monkhouse, Little and Large…he told us this….the Dave Allen show was doing a sketch show on a mugging the intro was ‘hey you…your money or…your life?’ They we’re trying and trying and trying to find the punchline and one guy hasn’t contributed anything and gets singled out…his reply…‘I’m fucking thinking, I’m fucking thinking’ he was red faced and serious as everyone around fell about laughing!
