Two of my personal favourite's of Frankie's... Lines that would break the atmosphere at a dinner party: "Wait, if we're all here, who's looks after Madeline?" And talking about David Guetta's George Floyd memorial show in New York... "This is the worst thing to ever happen to a New York skyscraper."

A reference to Madeleine Beth McCann (born 12 May 2003) who disappeared on the evening of 3 May 2007 from her bed in a holiday apartment in Portugal while both parents were in a nearby bar with friends. Her younger twin brother and sister were also in the ground-level holiday apartment (which had a faulty lock on the garden door) but were unharmed. Both parents are physicians; at the time it was illegal in UK Law to leave children under the age of 14 unattended, and doctors were advised to consider such an indicator of child neglect.

The comments at the time were more based around the fact that the parents got off easily and were treated as the victims by the press and police because they were middle-class doctors and if somebody working-class from a run-down council estate had done the same, they'd have been prosecuted for neglect and branded as ass-holes by the tabloids.

You need to know who Richard Hammond is to get a few of these, and understand the time that this came out. I’ll give it a go. There is a programme in the UK called “Top Gear”. It has 3 presenters, Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond. Top Gear was at the top of the BBC’s schedule for many years. It started as car review show, but with the three of them, became so much more than that, as it was very funny. It was sold around the world to about 50 countries and made the presenters household names around the globe. They mixed humour with car reviews, with side quest games, had star guests on, it was great. It was major news here in the UK when Richard Hammond (now a national treasure), was attempting a stunt for the show, whereby he would ride the fastest land vehicle ever, in an attempt to break the land speed record (whilst recording the TV show). It went wrong and he crashed in spectacular fashion. The episode was never aired. He was in a coma for weeks, thought to be paralysed and on the brink of death. This is the time when Frankie is making jokes about Richard Hammond. It was considered very bad taste, but still very funny. As it turns out, by some miracle, he survived and seems largely unaffected. He continued to co-present Top Gear. Top Gear was eventually dropped by the BBC when co-host Jeremy Clarkson punched the director in the face over an argument at dinner (something about a steak). Top Gear was picked up by Amazon and is now called “The Grand Tour”. The BBC tried to continue Top Gear with different presenters, but it is just awful now. The Amazon version of “The Grand Tour” does also not compete with Top Gear in its prime (no pun intended). The whole concept has now run its course. Just remember, that at the time, making a joke about a national treasure while he was in a coma fighting for his life, was frowned upon. That’s why the show is called “Mock The Week”, you need to understand what was happening during that week, otherwise it will be just be lost on most people.

Another two dark comics you might want to check out are Gerry Sadowitz and Ian Cognito. Unfortunately Ian (Paul) died on stage a couple of years ago. Also you need to check out Derek and Clive, both long gone now but they put Frankie Boyle in the shade. Seriously. Check out 'Sir', 'Soul Music' or 'The Horn', they're good places to start.
