It may seem like there are only a few tunes used for the chants, the words being all that changes, but that's far from true. The ones you refer to are probably the longer lived ones but most of the chants use tunes from non-football songs, usually tunes from the pop charts. The tunes that prove easiest to adapt are the ones that stick around and get used for many vastly different 'lyrics', giving the impression to the casual observer that the range of tunes used is limited when in reality the ingenuity and wit of the fans is far from being so limited. I'm glad that with the rise of the internet the chants are now being recorded for future fans to giggle and snigger over. I'd love to tell you about all the clever, witty chants and songs I've heard on the terraces and in the stands over the last 50+ years but sadly they have been forced from my memory by supposedly more important stuff. I'm also glad that you're continuing to entertain me with these videos. I sometimes think I enjoy them all the more when you have Anna with you but that should be taken as a compliment for her rather than any sort of slight against you- keep up the good work young man (and woman when she's there too)!

Unfortunately for a lot of us we're loyal to our teams, now matter how utterly dreadful we are. Take my team for example...poor poor Southend United. Relegated twice in a row with huge financial problems, in court I don't know how many times to be wound up and removed from existence, hanging for dear life for a while now but we'll probably cease to exist in a couple of weeks because we need a new owner but can't sell due to the debt with a new court date looming and no sale to be had. We're currently bottom of the 5th tier, docked 10 points for going into debt, only allowed 16 players due to our problems, no player signings allowed, an injury to any position means we can't really put out a team, and yet I'm still cheering every time we win something, score a goal or whatever...cos at any moment the team will no longer exist. It really is that close and memories of playing at the 2nd tier and beating Manchester United will be nothing more than that.
