The Aussie border ad was made WAY before any of us here in Australia saw how the US treat their borders lmao...... over here, it's pretty much, don't take fruit over state lines, because it can decimate the fruit industry, same with 'illegal animals' etc..... as for OS visitors, well ANY matter of vegetation or animal product needs to be approved - BECAUSE we are an island country. We don't have a lot of diseases that the rest of the world has, when it comes to our agriculture, cattle/sheep farming, flora and fauna. And that's the way we want to keep it :D Hence the Johnny Depp 'saga' lmfao.....

Scotty was the toyota salesman trying to sell him a new rig. as you saw he finally got his own back in the city run. That was all filmed on the streets in Wellington

That Aussie border patrol, aside from being an older commercial due to certain policies, was between city and rural areas, not international borders. The ads also came from Australia, New Zealand and South Africa.

I went to school with a bloke who bought a 2006 2wd hilux dual cab 4 cylinder petrol, 4 speed auto. Spent a bunch of money on it. Sectioned frame, tubbed, fully bagged, custom interior, tacoma front clip, its on 20s or 22s. Custom paint, its metalic brown not fridge white. The blokes nickname was toasty after all. So much extra weight in what still is a stock 2.7l 4 banger with the 4 speed auto.

Our border patrol are boats but state borders there aren't any really except for fruit fly ( fly larva burrow in the fruit ) they can cause major damage to crops in states that dont have them so u must put all fruit in the bin before crossing into some states.
@BradGryphonn
@BradGryphonn 2 жыл бұрын
I'm probably repeating other comments, but yeah, we have some places with not so much border controls, but more quarantine controls. Some states have quarantine restrictions that prohibit carrying fruit over certain borders, for example, Western Australia, and we even have quarantine checkpoints through certain parts of a particular state. There is a checkpoint on the road up through cape york where certain fruits are banned from outside. Back in the day when Fruit Fly was an even bigger issue than it is now, you couldn't carry fruit into particular citrus growing regions. For many years, Queensland had quarantine controls on every border crossing, including so-called back roads. Nowadays, all the former Queensland fruit checkpoints are used to stop Gucci carrying Hipsters soiling our land, as witnessed in that documentary purporting to be a Toyota advert.
@janp1088
@janp1088 2 жыл бұрын
We do quite a few divisions because we have border patrol on boats, looking after our water, and of course all air entry points. But we also have internal quarantine points to stop fruit moving from some areas to another. For the most part, South Australia is fruit fly free and works very hard to keep it that way, so we dont allow fruit entering, infact sometimes its restricted within the state if there happens to be a outbreak. But I think you have the same on one of your state borders...maybe California? I remember having to scoff down some fruit real quick seeing that come up. Theres also livestock points I think to prevent certain animal diseases moving around. Gotta admit, our border patrol does have it somewhat easier than many countries :) Most of the time all that we smuggle around are green tree frogs coming in with our bananas. And they can survive in the Southern states, so no drama there.

Adelaide is not dry and arid but the rest of South Australia is. Yes glad they mentioned the salt lakes and speed runs, was thinking you would be interested in that. Adelaide is ok, but not as large as other capital cities so not as much to do. Lots on unsealed roads in SA such as the informus Oodnadatta Track where various charity car rallies are held. The highways however are very straight narrow and long, the type that it's as far as the eye can see until you see a mirage. Also Coober Pedy in SA is one of the hottest and driest places in Australia, it's famous known for underground caves some people live in to escape the heat as well as the cold nights also. Although generally speaking Queensland is the hottest state. With tropical humid areas having the highest all year temperatures and Mount Isa having the hottest maximum temperature although also like Coober Pedy it's also a mining town and desert dry not humid like the east coast of Queensland is

The Whistlin' Diesel video...hang on, EVERYBODY in this comment section will know, so why am I say this...was a challenge/homage to the Top Gear video series. I have an early association with the Hilux and as such, never thought of them as a 'tough' ute. I worked in seismic oil search throughout Western Queensland in the late 70s-very early 80s and drove all manner of Toyota Landcruiser 4WDs; troopies, utes, wagons, and they were all tough vehicles. One of the survey crews came in with Hiluxes, which were kind of novel back then. Unfortunately, they were just too light for the conditions we were working in. We made our own tracks when the bulldozers couldn't due to terrain issues and the Hilux couldn't cope. They were woefully underpowered back then and were considered 'paddock utes', not serious 4WDs. We were driving the Landcruiser utes up insanely steep hillsides and through some disgustingly boggy wet country at times that the Hilux utes couldn't deal with. Nowadays it's a different story. The Hilux has grown up to be as good as its brother, and arguably a bit more sexy.
