So this was a good starting point! Looking forward to doing future videos on this subject. #history #india #asia #react

I'm not the biggest expert on Indian history either, but the period I'm most familiar with and am the most fascinated with is that of the Mughal empire. Another look into that era would be interesting to watch, and there's a very good video that gives an overview of its history which was made by a youtuber named Epimetheus, who covers a lot of areas of history. Check the link below: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mJvPen2Gopijq8U

Awesome. Thanks for the video link. I'll add that to my watch list. What fascinates you about the Mughal Empire?
@AJ_MUR
@AJ_MUR 3 жыл бұрын
@@SoGal_YT My fascination with it began fairly recently and it's more of a 'casual interest' anyway, but to summarise my reasons for why in a few points: - This era serves as a long-lasting example of the synthesis of two different cultures (Indian and Persianate-Islamic), which during the Mughal period, was typically observed by foreign Turko-Mongol rulers who claimed descent from the Central Asian warlord Timur, as the name of the dynasty (Gurkani) implies. This attempt at cultural synthesis, although unsuccessful in the long-term, also showed the two extremes of the imperial policy of the empire by which, depending on the ruler in power, would either show complete religious tolerance towards their subjects or in the case of one certain Mughal emperor, even try to enforce their religion upon the native population. It was a real mess, to say the least. - As explained in the video I linked, the empire was formed under extraordinary circumstances by one person who started with nothing and still defied all odds by conquering modern-day Afghanistan, Pakistan and Northern India, to the point where you could almost classify it as a 'rags to riches' story. There are so many examples of this in history, and this particular one is no exception. - Out of these humble beginnings, it later became one of the wealthiest states of the early modern period. At its peak, the Mughal dynasty was able to unify most of India, become one of the world's centers for art, architecture and literature and also possess a fair bit of military power, even giving the British East India Company a crushing defeat at one point in the late 17th-century. However, it would fall just as quickly because of its internal problems and the presence of external forces, resulting its subsequent decline.

Wouldn't Egyptians be the oldest living civilizations? What about Southern Iraqis? Sumeria is older than Indus Valley. I know we're one of the oldest. But there's a big difference between the Harrapans and people from Mohenjodaro and modern Indians who while somewhat related definitely have a more mixed origins. It's really not that productive to call ourselves the oldest living civilization. Mostly because, most of India isn't even related to the IV civilization.

Reason for decline of Buddhism in India is due to recognition of Buddha as an avatar of Hindu God Vishnu. Due to this many people started worshipping Buddha as an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. And Buddhism preists started using Sanskrit instead of Parkrit (language of common people) in worshipping and this alienated common masses from this religion. But Buddhism still exist in India.

China fought on the UK, France, Russia and the U.S's side in both world wars, as did India. When people say 'the UK' when referring to the war they should say the British Empire as it was the empire that fought against the Axies. A massive failure on this video's part is to not even mention the partition of India which is one of the biggest events of the 20th century. When this video states India it actually refers to modern India, Pakistan and Bangladesh. After India won independence, India was partitioned into modern India, Pakistan and Bangladesh. The partition was handled very poorly by the British and the consequences are still felt today in India and Pakistan. The country was ripped into three.

Buddhism didn't change into Hinduism. Hinduism was already prevalent in India as you saw in the starting of the video. In fact Buddhism came from Hinduism like Jainism and Sikhism. Siddharth Gautama(Budhha) was born a Hindu to Hindu parents in ancient India . In Hinduism Buddha is considered an avatar of Vishnu(The Hindu God). Buddhism and Hinduism share many same beliefs and practices and their language for prayers is also mostly the same(Sanskrit).What the man in this video wants to say is that Buddhism which was part of Hinduism gained more prominence than Hinduism for a short duration . After which eventually Hinduism again gained prominence back and Buddhism spread from India to South-East Asia and East Asia.

Japan was planning to take over India had the Axis powers won, and it's unlikely they would have then got independence. There's a reason WW2 is called a world war. Britain paid a very large amount of money to India in the 50s as part of their agreement. Mughal were defeated by marathas 3. which created power vaccum and Afghan an britsh wanted to conquer 4. British failed because marathas were powerful and never dare to attack marathas but real problem started when Afgan (Durrani Empire) sacked Delhi (Mughals) 5. This leads to 3rd Battle of Panipat (Afgan vs Maratha) and had major causalities one of the bloodiest battles ever fought on earth before WW1 and WW2 6. 3rd Battle of Panipat where Marathas lost alot of people and even afgan lost alot, so afgan left India, which created Vaccum of power in India which inspired british to go war with marathas. 7. Actually Siddhartha Gautma (a Hindu king) as known as Buddha was born in Limpi which is Todays Nepal, in 500BC. He was on road to witness his kingdom, where he saw lots of empathy, hunger, conflict, wars, he thought that peace teaching could be a major role. So he started preaching peace and love. He achieved enlightenment under a tree which is now located in Bihar, India. So Buddhism is actually not a Religion, it is just a teaching, but over a time it become religion, you can say it was a sub religion of Hinduism. So conversion of buddhism to Hinduism is not that a issue.

Cave paintings are not found only in India and America because they are "so much better than the rest of the world", they are found in Europe ,Africa, Australia, Southeast Asia. She is literally how I imagine all the Americans, their superiority complex is spilling over.

India has a very long history, infact it's the oldest living civilization/culture on the planet. Hinduism is the world's oldest culture. Actually Hinduism is not a religion, it's original name is "Sanatan Dharm" meaning - The eternal traditon. When Persians came to India they called the people living between the Hindukush mountains and the Indian ocean as "Hindus". Hinduism is a Vedic culture. The four Vedas are the basis of this culture. These Vedas were written somewhere around 10,000 to 12,000 B.C. FYI - Hinduism is not derived from Buddhism. Hindu culture was there far before Buddha was even born. In reality Buddhism has taken many concepts from Hinduism

From a personal British point of view this is fine but breaking the rules and crossing the Potomac to take the Few British at Christmas when they are drunk is not cricket and the sign of a power laden individual against his own! The theory with the greatest consensus currently is the Vedic peoples were that they were an Indo-European speaking people who originated around the Pontic steppes (grasslands) north of the Black and Capsian seas (the Kurgan Hypothesis) some migrating west into Europe, others into Turkey (Hittites), still others into Western China, and the Indo-Iranian branch migrating into Iran and finally into the Indian subcontinent. Of course, there were people there also but India was not so greatly affected by the Mesopotamia and Nilotic empires such as Sumer and Babylon, and Egypt.

While Britain was dealing with the American rebellion, it was also involved in quite a major European war. It had its hands full. It only seriously moved into other parts of the globe, after it lost the American colonies. In 1857, at the time of the Indian mutiny, it was a more powerful country, and had no distractions. India had many people loyal to the British rule as well as those seeking independence. Many thousands fought on the allied side, along side other countries from the British empire, in WWI and II. The Japanese were invading and fighting in China in the 1930s. It was American actions against them over this conflict that sparked Pearl Harbour. They swept through a lot of south East Asian countries , many of them colonies. Vietnam (France ) Dutch Indonesia, British controlled Burma. They reached the north east border of India and even threatened to invade, but they were stretched quite thin at that point. The twin battles of Kohima and Imphal stopped an invasion. For information on Ghandi and the struggle for independence, you can't do better than watch the film directed by Richard Attenborough Ghandi. It is rather long, an epic, but unlike a lot of Hollywood, it is historically accurate and well worth seeing.

The biggest empire was the Mauryan Empire. India comes in South Asia and it is often called as the Indian Sub-continent which comprises of several countries. It's so called because the geography of these regions is very different from the region just above it. Why didn't the rebellion in India of 1857 lost and US won? 1. In India, the British had support of many rulers and some of them stood with them. Typically, Indians helped British to defeat Indians(not all had nationalist ideologies at that time). 2. British applied Divide and Rule strategy in India. They created a sense of division in the minds of Indians,especially in respect of religion, that is, as Hindus and Muslims so that the people don't unite. It even resulted in a two nation theory and India was split into India and Pakistan. 3. And most probably the British would have used more power in India because they knew if they lose India they would lose all what they have as India was their biggest source of wealth and resources. Just imagine India had accounted for almost 25% of the world's GDP before EIC arrived and when British left India has less than 2% of the world's GDP.

India has sand and salt deserts and the largest mountain ranges in the world too. However, it has a huge population because cities were formed 3000-4000 years ago and people settled there. And this just went higher and higher in the next 4000 years. India is South Asia. And if I still remember my history classes, the Nalanda University was established around 500 B.C. And Alexander the Great of Macedonia was also not willing to enter into India because he was not sure if he could defeat the great Mauryan Empire. The Gupta Empire constituted about 30% of World's GDP during its era. The Mughal Empire at its peak was the richest Empire in the world for 2 centuries. Their GDP was about 25% of the World's GDP during those days. Everyone wanted a piece of the pie. That made Christopher Columbus to set out sail to India but failed and discovered the Americas instead. The United States were able to defeat the British because they were the same people and were united whereas India in those days comprised of 600+ kingdoms who were always at war with each other for centuries before the British arrived and the British used this to their advantage.

Here are some corrections and important facts--1.Mehergarh civilization was 7,500 years old and Harappa was a 4000 years old civilization..Mesopotamia or Egyptian civilization were not the oldest.. You can search about "Dwarka City",archeologist around the world are still in researching on it they think it could be more than 10-20 thousands years old..you can watch "Sanauli" at Discovery +.. It was 4000 years old a very modern civilization recently found in 2009..it changed Indian and world history 2. The oldest religion in the world is Sanatana Dharma an old form of Hinduism.. It was 5 to 10 thousands years old..Lord Budhha the founder of Buddhism was born in a hindu royal family..2.Selucas the commander of Alexander Army was an ally of Chandragupta Maurya..Chandragupta married Celucas daughter.. 3.Ashoka is the grandson of Chandragupta and in his time Buddhism spread to Tibet and S.E asian countries..He became a Buddhist after the great war against Kalinga..he united whole India.. He called the Great Ashoka..Buddhist People from china, japan, korea, Thailand respect him a lor even worship him for his involvement to spread Buddhism out of India to S. E asian countries 4. The university was called "Nalanda".. The oldest university of the world.Almost 10,000 students were admitted.. People from china, S. E Asia and middle east came to study thousands years ago.. 5. Maratha dynasty broke the Mughal empire into pieces.. Maratha were the bravest Hindu warriors who fought against the Muslim Mughal rulers who murdered millions of Hindus, tortured and forced them to convert into islam, raped and looted for hundreds of years.. The greatest Maratha king was Chatrapati Shivaji who stood for our freedom and to protect our women from mughals..when the mughal became weak by Marathas then East India Company entered in India and made Indian dynasties to fight with eachother so they became weak 6. In 1857 we lost the revolt called "Sipahi" because many kings didn't participate in it 7. 1/6 th of whole british army was Indian in both World Wars.. Millions of Indian died in world war in a hope that british would left India but they betrayed us..britain looted almost 45 trillion from India.. You can search on google or KZbin about it.. India shared over 40% of world gdp before Mughals invaded India, before britain invaded it was 24% of world gdp but when british left it became less than 4% of world gdp..In the time of Alexander greek used to call India the "Golden Bird" cause it was the richest of all 8. Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, Bhagat Sing, Rashbihari Bose, Bagha Jatin and many more were the true heroes who sacrificed there life to give India independence.. I hope you learn a little bit about indian history today.. Thank You❤️🙏

Why India failed to overthrow the British vs the Americans. Well several large factors, in India a large number of the local rulers did not side with the revolt instead supporting or staying neutral in the conflict. The people who revolted stood alone with whatever arms they could steal or capture from British forces. America on the other hand fought against Britain alongside the French, many more important people in the US sided with the Patriots against the crown and America received so much aid from the French that it led to the French revolution. Having all that support and a cohesive leadership of the important players in the area is why the US succeeded.

Britain could rule India because we had different religion, which was a factor to instigate conflict among people, and aside from religion, since ancient time of kings and queen, there was no union of kingdom due to internal difference. Since there was no unity among different sect, Britain took advantage and control over India, since Mughal emperor Babar. Biritsh came to India during Babar rule around 1500AD, to do trade, later on take took various company and merchants and expand their business in india. They knew that India was not United at that time, so they started to infuse conflict among Sikh, Muslim, Hindus kings. Since there was no unity they could conquer lots of kingdom, and at the end of 1700 AD they stated East india Company, even enforcing so many rules for King and queen which limits their power, and ultimately British rose and expand their rule and conquer all India. Only until late 19 and 20th century where people of India realised that unity of people can provide strength to suppress british power and oppression. Lots of heroes like Subhash Chandra Bise, Bhagat Singh, Queen Rani Lakshmi Bai, etc laid their live. 1857 was the first war of independence led by Lakshmi Bai but she died after battle carrying her son along with her. She was forced to leave her palace.

Note: History of India is usually generalized as the history of the northern-most part. The reason is that the north controlled the passage into India from the West (through Afghanistan)- it's like a bottleneck with the Himalayas to the north and the Arab sea to the south. The passage was crucial for military reasons, primarily because India did not have access to war horses or gunpowder inland. It had to come from the West. So whoever controlled North India was the most powerful and had a bigger say in the sub-continent's affair. Also, this is the reason you see Afghan/Turkic/Persian/Mongol tribes attacking (North) India with such ease and establishing century-long dynasties.
