Is the ball hard? Hell yes, I lost a skyed ball in the sun and got knocked out when it hit me in the head. You have two batsmen at the crease, a striker and the non striker at the other end, the non striker calls the run if it goes behind the striker who can't see where it's gone. Conversely it's up to the striker to call the run if it goes behind the non striker who can't see it, the technical term is "backing up"the other player to maximise runs but minimise the risk of being run out of your ground.

The pads in the batsmens legs may slow them down but they are there to protect the legs. If a fast bowl hits the leg it may break the leg or at least do serious damage. It's the same for both teams.

Something they didn't mention on there was Overs. When a bowler bowls six legal deliveries this is what is known as an over, then a different bowler will be nominated and he will bowl an over from the opposite end of the pitch , the play rotates in this way throughout the innings. usually with a bowler bowling a set number of overs from one end and a different bowler bowling a set number from the opposite end .

If you combine your previous watch with this one, you'll start to see some of the rules in action. Also, just FYI - this clip you watched was a long shot from the best explanation of the rules of Cricket. Watch Ninh's The rules of Cricket - it would have been the next video on your playlist. To answer your questions: 1. The ball is hard! 2. The fence was the boundary for this video, but in the previous vid you watched, the boudary was the white rope (I think you called it a wall because of the foam advertising on it) that goes around the perimeter of the field. If the ball touches the ground anywhere inside the boundary and then crosses the boundary, it's a 4 - if it stays airborne until it crosses the boundary it's a 6. It doesn't matter if it's an inch over the boundary or 20 feet, it's still a 6. There is one exception to this - if a fielder can jump up, catch and release the ball before his feet touch the ground over the boundary rope, he can throw it in-field to prevent the boundary. 3. This video fails to mention the different formats of the game. Ninh explains that. 4. The wickets that the guys are using in this video are actually training wickets (the ones all joined at the base). Proper game wickets are just the 3 stumps in the ground with 2 wooden bails resting across the top of them. Hitting the wicket only counts if the bails are dislodged from the top of the wickets 5. There is no rule as to how far a bowler can run before bowling, but usually fast bowlers take a longer run-up to spin bowlers. 6. The LBW rule prevents a batsman from just standing directly in front of the wicket and protecting it from the ball with his padded legs. In your previous video you paused for quite a while on an LBW decision that was overturned by a 3rd Umpire as the ball was not going on to hit the wickets. But that kind of technology is really only available to the big leagues and international games. So normally it's just up to the umpire that is standing at the bowler's end to make the decision. Keep at it. Cricket is a wonderful sport, It is played in America, the US even has a national Cricket team, as do Canada. The way you react to videos is quite entertaining because you try to figure it out, and have no problems with changing a video halfway through if it makes no sense to you. It's quite refreshing to see someone react in that way.

The ball is similar in size, weight and construction to a baseball-so definitely not soft and rubbery. The bowling speed is similar to pitches in baseball--top fast bowlers are up to 100mph. Having the ball bounce before reaching the batsman introduces more scope for variability both intentional--for example where the bowler applies spin--and accidental--due to unevenness in the surface, particularly as it gets a bit chewed up after a long game. Mentioning long games reminds me that there are a number of variations in the length of games. All the references I heard were to limited over matches where, as the name implies, each innings has a set number of balls. However, a the top tier--internationals referred to as 'Test Matches'--the only limit is time... and that is not terribly limited as the games run over 5 days. This introduces a lot more tactical decisions for the captains such as whether to declare early (ie pass the batting to the other team) in the hope of getting them out or to slog on in a defensive posture to effectively play for a draw.
@brucelamberton88192 жыл бұрын
And harder than a baseball when new as it has a coat of lacquer. And the raised seam is a killer!
@fedup34492 жыл бұрын
The structure of the game is important. 2 teams of 11 players each. Captains toss a coin to see who 'goes in' first. The team that chooses to go in goes out. The other team that's out goes in to the field. The 'in' team has batsmen at the crease trying to score runs and stay in. When one of them is 'out' he comes in and the next one 'in' goes out. They keep doing this until the whole team that's 'in' is out, except the last man 'in' who can't be 'in' on his own, so he now goes out as well. Then the other team that was 'out' now goes in by going out. The team that was in is now out and goes in to the field. Which ever team scores the most runs wins. There are two umpires that decide whether the players that are 'in' are in or out. Hope that helps!

FYI - Early Cricket in USA and first ever international cricket match (first ever in any sport). from Wikipedia "The British brought cricket to the Thirteen Colonies in the early 18th century. Cricket further grew in the 18th century.[12] It is understood from anecdotal evidence that George Washington was a strong supporter of cricket, participating on at least one occasion in a game of cricket with his troops at Valley Forge during the American Revolution.[13] John Adams was recorded as saying in Congress that if leaders of cricket clubs could be called "presidents", there was no reason why the leader of the new nation could not be called the same.[14] In 1844, the United States participated in the first international cricket match. This was played against Canada at the St George's Cricket Club Ground, Bloomingdale Park, New York.[15] This first international sporting event was attended by 20,000 people and established the longest international sporting rivalry in the modern era.[16] Wagers of around $120,000 were placed on the outcome of the match" en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_national_cricket_team

Yes the pads do slow you down but not as much as being hit in the knee-cap by a hard cricket ball travelling close to 100mph. Catching the ball with the correct technique may sometimes sting a bit but doesn't do any harm, but if caught wrong then can result in broken fingers which is fairly common, most professional cricketers will have bent fingers from breaks.

The balls are hard as rocks and the best bowlers can bowl up to 150km/hour. Hence pads, gloves, helmets, and rib and arm protection. Also there are three types of cricket. Originally there was 'test cricket', where the teams have two innings each with no limit on balls bowled, they all wear white, and matches can last up to five days. Then in about the 1970s 'one day cricket' became popular. Each team is limited to one innings of 50 overs (each over has six balls). They wear different team/state/country colours, and the match usually lasts for a day. The most recent type is 'T20 cricket', similar to the above but with only 20 overs in each innings. These matches only last about three and a half hours and are usually pretty exciting. All three types of cricket are still played from local club to international levels. The Laws of cricket, of which there are 42, were drafted in London in 1744. The latest book of Laws and by-laws is 89 pages long. Good luck with learning them!

Basically ther is a boundary which is often the white line or boundary mad of some material and if the ball drops over that line or hits the physical boundary it is four runs which is why some fielders will give up chasing the ball if it is too far ahead of them as they chase it.A hit over the line in one stroke is six .If it looks like a fielder is close enough to catch the ball before it hits the four boundary they will pick it up and throw it toward his team mates close to the wicket and catch the running batsmen out before they have reached the wicket they are running to if possible, also cutting back the possible four runs to less runs. I think like any sport one needs to enjoy what one is watching and the rules are picked up over time.

LBW can be controversial but it is a traditional maxim of cricket that the Umpire's word is final. If there is doubt the batsman get the benefit and that applies to close run outs as well. At the top levels of cricket there is sophisticated electronic ball tracking equipment that can be used to rule on lbws, really close run outs and catching decisions but the umpire still makes the initial decision. Both batting and bowling teams can refer queries to the third umpire who has access to the ball tracking kit to check the decision, but they can only use it 2 or 3 times (depending on format) in an innings and they lose a referral if they get it wrong. So sides have to be judicious in using the system; if they 'burn' their referrals early on with frivolous appeals then they will regret it later on.

A cricket ball is slightly smaller but heavier and harder than a baseball. It is not weird that the fielders don't have catching mitts; if anything is weird it is catching mitts! The video is slightly misleading when it says batsmen have to run to the opposite wicket to score a run. They run from their batting crease to the opposite batting crease to get home. The white line creases are 4 feet from the wickets so from crease to crease is 58 feet and the whole pitch is 66 feet long and 10 feet wide. The whole playing area varies greatly according to local availability and budget, but in practice you would want boundaries roughly of 55 to 70 yards radius for amateur recreational cricket and around 75 to 90 for professionals.

India,Pakistan,west indies,Australia,south Africa and England but not in Scotland,Ireland or Wales, except just a bit here and there. In India they get massive audiences. For one world cup final they had a tv audience if over 500000000. Also it's a game of competition but also good sportsmanship. If somebody is not doing things how they should there is a saying in england. It's not cricket. I said in a previous response to you that you must get a cricket ball to hold and feel then imagine it coming towards you at over 90mph. It's deadly.

Why are you struggling to work out how they score runs. I would not normally advise it but on this occasion think of baseball. In that game you either score runs by running or by hitting the ball to the end of of the ground. It is the same in cricket; you except you run in a straight line between the wickets or you hit the ball over the boundary; it is not rocket science.

This video shows the basics of cricket. You also have different player roles. Batsmen, Wicket keeper, All Rounder which is both batsman and bowler. Then you have bowlers. Bowlers are broken down into pace which is fast/medium and rarely seen slow. And then you also get spin bowling which is right arm leg break spinner, right arm off break spinner, left arm chinaman spinner, left arm orthadox spin. There's 10 batsmen in a team. 1-5 are usually your best batsmen. 6-7 are wickets keepers or all rounders. Then 8 to 11 are bowlers. Thats general because some teams are different. You can have a wicket keeper that can also be a batsman and can bat anywhere depending on his skill. You can also have a wicket keeper that's a bowler and not batsman. Some all rounders are balanced well between bowling and batting, and some favor bowling or batting a bit more. Each team is different. Some have more better batsman with a longer line up. For example. Team A has good batsman from 1-8. Team B has good batsman from 1-6. That means one teams favors batters more and the other bowlers more. You get different types of venues that have track records for their pitches. So some pitches favor the spinners or pace bowlers or batsmen. Meaning the pitch can make it easier for players skill. Where you pick up more wickets or make more runs. Teams that don't have the best of players are limited because they don't have a big selection of talent. Teams like Australia, England, South Africa, India, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, Pakistan have good upcoming talent when their senior players leave due to retirement. So some teams can't really change their strength from one side to another to suit the pitch because they don't have the skill selection to back them up. There's still more to it. Explained what I can think of now🤣 Oh you get 3 levels of crickets tours. You have 20 overs( 120 balls bowled) That's fast a paced game. Then you have 50overs(300 balls bowled) That requires some more mental skill to hold out longer in your batting and bowling. Then you have test match. Average 90 overs per day for 5days. Each team bats twice and has to make a score and get the other team out depending who wins the tos. The tos is when two captains stand next to each other. A coin is flipped and which ever captain wins can choose to bat or bowl first. That can help the dynamic of the game because statistics show that either batting or bowling first is favored for the win.

If you bat (or keep wicket) without one of these then you are a foolhardy idiot, and when ultimately the inevitable happens you will be writhing in great pain whilst, traditionally, your team mates laugh and show no sympathy whatsoever.

that was a terrible video on the rules of the game, for instance, the batsman isnt out if the ball hits the wicket and being caught is a lot more complicated than that, and the ball is rock hard, and what about the five other ways to get out!!

I have to agree. That was the worst attempt I've seen at explaining the game. I'm no expert but could have done a better job in five minutes with a sheet of paper, a sharpie and a voiceover.

This is not the best one to watch. I play this game and it wasn’t explained to well.
