skippy was the australian version of americas Lassie where someone could always tell what the animal was trying to tell you and the adventure would start..i was one of the aussie kids who did watch skippy and remember it with good memories, i went to where skippy was filmed on a school excursion and saw where the helicoptor lands, saw the radio room etc i will never forget it

You should actually watch an episode of Skippy some time. It was and still is part of the culture. There was an excellent documentary called 'Skippy- Australia's First Super Star'. It goes into the whole world wide Skippy phenomenon. It really is worth a watch.

Among other on-set horror stories was the time Skinny was supposed to put out some dynamite in a mine ... an inexperienced on-set stunt co-ordinator pushed the button too soon ... that Skippy became ground kangaroo, and the guest star was made deaf. They used to send a regular supply of Skippys from a house with a big yard from near where I lived at the time, down to the Sydney studios..
