Jim is right: the date must come first bc it's the most important. When you ask someone the date, you mean the day, not the month! And as for a measurement system that sets freezing at 32 degrees instead of 0 and is only used by three countries ... WTF?? 😂

Another weird difference I've just noticed between Aussies and Americans, is you call them sandwiches, when they're clearly burgers. Sandwiches are two slices of bread with food between them, whereas burgers use buns instead. When you buy the buns from the supermarket they're called burger buns, but as soon as you put food between the burger buns suddenly you call them sandwiches. To me, and all other Australians, these are two separate things. On the menu boards of all fast food places in Australia, if it's called a sandwich, it will be two slices of bread with food in between. You will not find the word sandwich on an Australian McDonald's menu board, except for toasted sandwiches from mcafe, which is two slices of bread with some combination of ham cheese and tomato in between, put in a sandwich press until the cheese melts and the bread turns golden brown, but the big mac and all the other items that involve a burger bun is referred to as a burger, not a sandwich. Because it's in a burger bun. How did this become normal for you guys? It's like me saying I'll go get my truck and come back driving a sedan. Yes, they both use internal combustion engines and have four tyres, but they're clearly not the same.
@JesusManera Жыл бұрын
Yeah I noticed too that in the US they call burgers "sandwiches" everywhere. I think they literally just refer to a "burger" as a beef patty but anything in a bun as a "sandwich". Another huge difference... The US refer to main courses as the "entreé" which is especially weird because entreé literally translates to entrance (meaning starter). First time I went to a US restaurant I decided to order 3 entreés instead of a main so that I could try different things, but ended up with 3 main courses!! Why in the hell would they refer to a main course as an entreé? That one literally makes zero sense because in the entire rest of the world entreé means appetiser or starter.

can't complain too much when we call all forms of chips "chips"

@@JesusManera same with their coffee cup sizes. Tall and Grande mean the same thing in different languages, and they made Tall the smallest size after introducing the Venti (Italian for 20), so you've got big, big and twenty to choose from.
@evanflynn4680 Жыл бұрын
@@WillMAW2 we add a descriptor. Hot chips, cold chips, sometimes we use the brand name if we want to be specific. Also, if it's a takeaway or fast food joint that doesn't sell cold chips, they will just refer to them as chips. There's a fryer over there, a heat lamp area to keep them hot, so if you can't figure it out with context then that's kinda low on your list of problems.
@Crosleyq Жыл бұрын
@@evanflynn4680 uhhh if you can't work out a chicken sandwich at a McDonalds isn't a Chicken burger that could be low on your list of problems. Technically there is no such thing as a burger, it is an abbreviated version of hamburger which is mince formed into a patty, it is not the bun which defines the 'burger' it is the meat. Hence they call anything which is not a patty between two buns a sandwich. In the US - there are hoagies and subs, which are different names for sandwiches as defined by the bun. In short when it comes to either burger or sandwich culture, the US has the floor completely wiped, given the sheer volume of chains available selling both, therefore I would defer to their wisdom on the matter.
