Melbourne is the capital city of the state of Victoria, and I believe this vlog was made c. 2021. The Yarra river is brown due to silt particles carried from the catchment areas where it originates, and it is not from pollution. 👍

Did you know one was raised by a family many years ago, and this family had a son who played the flute. The bird would copy the flute songs. Once released, it spread it's flute songs, and now all Lyre birds sing parts of the flute songs! Blew my mind when I found that out. Amazing birds.

The free tram system in the city centre is actually free; you don't need to pay a monthly fee or anything. The brown colour of the river is because it is muddy. It always looked that way, even when the first explorers came here. CBD stands for central business district - what you would call downtown. AFL is not a separate football code to Australian rules football, it is the peak Australian rules football competition (just as NFL is the peak competition for American football). Aussie rules is a very old game, with the first game occurring in Melbourne in 1858. The AFL has been around (in its original form, the Victorian Football League or VFL) since 1897. The rules are explained here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/q5C2opmEg8ubo68. Aussie rules is a massive part of Melbourne culture. Any kid starting at a new school will be asked two questions: 'What's your name?' and 'Who do you barrack for?' (meaning, which AFL team do you follow). Bendigo is about a 2 hour drive from Melbourne. Not sure, but I suspect the mountains were the New Zealand Alps in the South Island. Australia does have plenty of snow in the mountains, though. In fact, Australia has a greater area of snow than Switzerland.
@llunstudiomelbourne7 күн бұрын
Hey, just a note. The colour of the Yarra River that runs through the city, is known as the river that runs upside down. It is also the home of the Moomba International Water Ski Competition. It’s not polluted as was the insinuation, the river carries a large amount of silt brought down from its run through various tributaries, bushland areas, rock and minor rapids etc. Indeed, the native fish has returned to a lot of the river over the last 20-30 years. To answer, the CBD means Central Business District, the part of the city where trade (old markets in the 18 and early 1900s) together with modern retail and commercial spaces are located. Similar to the American term of DownTown I would expect. Hope that helps

Australia is known for it's bushfires, and yes we have had some horrific seasons, but all previous history pales in significance to the July 2019 - March 2020 season known as the BLACK SUMMER! Various factors in previous years (high temps, repeated drought, floods) brought about the worst ever season to take place! In NSW alone 5.4 million hectares burned sending recording breaking temperatures across the country. Smoke from the fires was responsible for 450 deaths, while 26 fatalities were directly caused by the fires. In total, over 18 million hectares of land burnt, creating devastating losses for biodiversity. Estimates of over 1 million animals died (koalas, kangaroos, etc) whole ecosystems devastated! Perhaps, googling "black summer" will show you what I mean.

Australia does have extensive snow fields in the SE of the continent in Winter, with great downhill and Nordic ski mountains. They’re 4-6 hours drive beyond the Melbourne and Sydney tho. If you want to see the Graffiti, you HAVE to get good current map directions first. Some KZbinrs have wandered through the CBD for literally 3 hours without finding one good alley of it. My mum was a design lecturer, and she used to take her students on a tour of some of the graffiti alleys once a year. Our artists did start with bored teenagers just tagging trains and train line fences with black spray paint for a couple of decades before some of them got really elevated at it. We do still have a lot of the ugly stuff all over train lines. But kids have to get their start somewhere right? Australia makes reeeeally good wine. There’s plenty of places around the continent that are good wine areas. The most famous is the Barossa Valley in South Australia. You’ve heard a kookaburra laugh before. It’s used all the time in movies in jungle scenes as if it’s a monkey laughing/making noise.

The most Liveable City name is never explained. An international ratings agency does its research for one specific reason. It is for Multinational Companies to see which cities in the world are the safest as far as criminality is concerned, have the best, most available healthcare etc. This information helps them decide on where is the best place in the world to send their senior executives on temporary assignments. It's a little bit more complicated than that, but it has nothing to do with affordability or liveability for the middle class person wondering whether somewhere is a good place to immigrate to. The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) publishes an annual Global Liveability Ranking, which ranks 140 cities for their urban quality of life based on assessments of their stability, health care, culture, environment, education and infrastructure.
