Imagine the ball gets to quarter back he then throws if forward 20/30 yards to a running back that is illegal in rugby, you have to pass the ball to a team mate who is behind the ball at time of release. So the ball can go backwards or laterally to an oncoming player. Also a conversion must take place directly behind where the ball was touched down, so if a try is scored 1 yard in from the touchline, the conversion has to take place 1 yard in from touch, which make the kicker a very important skill. Note there are NO special teams in rugby, the 15 on field have to defend/ attack depending on which team has ball, substitutes or injury substitutes are allowed

Just to clarify, it’s sideways from the centre of the goalpost, the conversion kick is always done from the 22 line and in line of where the ball is touched down.

Just when i think i couldn't love you anymore, you go and dive into something i used to love playing (Union. "It's the world in union. The world as one") *Quoted the theme to the world cup 7's is a easier version of the game to follow (as a starter). I think Jamaican 7's team are doing better then the 15 a side. I think it's the same for the USA too Big up for yourself too. I think you're following this better then anyone else ive seen, and ive watched alot of reactions to this video. 'Invictus', with Morgan Freeman as Nelson Mandela features rugby. It also mentions the best player ive ever seen Jonah Lomu. (Shout out to Jonny Wilkinson, possibly up there in another way)

It took me a year of going back and forth between instructional videos like the one you feature here and replaying actual rugby games to fully understand the rules. A backwards or lateral pass can be very deceiving to the eye when watching it from the stands or via TV. It sometimes looks like the ball is traveling forward but it is the forward motion of the receiving player that fools the eye. In both American football and rugby a forward pass MUST travel forward from the release point to be a forward pass. Any pass that does not travel forward the least bit is considered to be a backwards pass. In rugby, any kind of contact with the head, either directly, or with contact with ground after lifting a player, is a penalty that can result in an automatic ejection. Every four years the Rugby World Cup is held and they use the Rugby Union rules. it is absolutely insane the way each nation's fans support their teams Look up "new zealand rugby haka dance" to get a flavor of the spirit of rugby and "Nigel Owens" to get a feel of how respectful rugby players are of the rules and the officials. American football has anywhere from 3 to 8 officials on the field during the game. Rugby has ONE on field official with others stationed in the "touch" areas.

Sevens Rugby Union is the version now played at the Olympic Games, where you need to win 5 or 6 games to win the Gold Medal. Don't fuss about the difference between Union and League - League is a very minor sport world-wide and most matches that are called Rugby are the Union variety.

American football is a game where the feet actually don't do much other than allow the players to run around. It is all about either throwing the ball forwards or carrying it forwards. Perhaps a better name would be American Handball as the hands do all the work!

Rugby is a big deal for the Celtic nations of Britain. More important than soccer. Whenever Cornwall go to Twickenham for the cup final, the population of Cornwall drops noticeably. The fans filling the stadium with the colours of black and gold, singing Trelawney's Army at the top of their lungs. Wonderful sight.

Personally enjoy rugby 7s the best it is a much shorter game(14 mins instead of 80 mins) and usually they will play an entire competition over a weekend. Next year, jamaica will be looking to win the North American championship and become the joint most successful team in north America (currently with 5 wins behind guayana wirh 6)

Probably the greatest Rugby teams is the All Blacks from New Zealand. Probably the greatest player of all time was the late Jonah Lomu who was unstoppable even though he was never 100% fit due to suffering a congenital kidney disease which eventually killed him. Watch any video featuring Jonah and you will understand what I mean. Another great point about watching the All Blacks is that they always do a Haka (Maori war chant) before starting a match as a challenge to an opposing team.

LOOK....NO PADDING !! There is no designated specialist kicking team in rugby like they have in American football ( PUNTER). The player ( FLY HALF) already on the pitch/field, will kick the ball after a try to gain extra points. You CANNOT pass the ball FORWARD. Women play both games as well. Do American women play American " football" ?

But of course they have padding, it's called MUSCLE of which they have plenty! And as you will have noted from the clips in this video Rugby is played by women too, and they are every bit as tough as the men.
