Chaz Mostert drove his Walkinshaw Andretti United Holden Commodore ZB around the Mount Panorama circuit in 2:03.373 seconds to beat the previous fastest lap time of 2:03.481sec set by Scott McLaughlin in 2019. The fastest 10 cars from qualifying will take part in the Top 10 Shootout , which will finalise the first five rows on the grid. Peace out.

@@CVTECK1 yes. This year of supercars the teams can choose between a holden commodore or a ford mustang. Both have been tested extremely well though so its completely fair game versing each other. Next year a new set of regulations called gen 3 (these are gen 2 regulated cars ur watching) will arrive which have cars with less aerodynamics and a few other changes. This is to make the racing better as high aerodynamic cars are hard to race together closely (within about 150 metres ish) because the car behind has no air to produce aero because the car infront of them is pushing the air and disturbing the wind for the car behind them, this is whats called dirty air and slip stream. Slip stream is good and is when a car behind follows a car on a straight and gains speed because less air to push. Dirty air is bad because its when you are following cars through corners closely and the air infront has been disturbed(dirty) the car has less wind to make the aero work which creates downforce which helps stick your car to the floor when driving through corners. A prime example of cars with extreme aero and horrible dirty air is formula 1. It had gotten so bad to the point where they introduced drs(drag reduction system) and completely change the car regulations for 2023 to make overtakes happen. Anyways yes all cars are v8s. And next year it will be Chevrolet Camaro vs Ford Mustang because Holden has been shutdown so Chevrolet replaces them. Gen 3 will still feature v8s i believe supercharged engines and i think if another manufacturer wants to join it doesnt have to be a v8 but idk I'll have to check the 2023 gen 3 regs again

@Nic B you're stuck in 2019. Holden and Mustang are very competitive with each other now. 888 racing has a lot of money to buy top racers/engineers/mechanics if you wanna say they are cheating. Djr no longer has the budget from penske. Literally every other team has good battles with each other. Spot to me where you think theres a issue in parity for this season

Holden ( GM ) always get the advantage because it is more profitable..... they sell more magazines and the officials receive less complaints and fewer death threats. 1st generation after real toad cars...... Ford destroyed the Holden rubbish, so Holden were allowed to make changes giving them a big, unequal and unfair advantage. Ford had to fight for years to be finally allowed very small or insignificant changes they needed to be competitive. Also..... the Holden Dealer Team was always a full factory team being hidden from the GM board in Detroit..... and always spent more money than Ford. Harry Firth left Ford and went to Holden for the money.... Moffats Phase 3 GTHO was never a real GTHO .... nor even a real GT. Ford gave him a Falcon 500 and told him to build his own GTHO..... from the almost non existent money they gave him. From the late 1960’s to at least the 1980’s, all the BIG teams were allowed to ignore many rules, but the privateers never were. When the roll cage had to be plated to the floor and end there...... not allowed any contact to the chassis...... all the big teams welded the roll cage directly to the chassis and added a “ dummy” plate to be fixed to the floor. Any small team that copied that was disqualified from competition and FINED money they could not afford to pay. This is motor racing..... big money and even bigger EGO’s. Look at F1....... ruled by Ferrari until Enzo left us. Then ruled by the French allowing Prost and Renault to look good. When Senna proved to be more than 1 sec a lap quicker than Prost, then Prost was allowed to take Senna out...... and Senna got blamed for it. lol The following year Senna took his revenge and was vilified for it...... “ how dare you take revenge on a French cheat “ WAKE. UP. !!! All governments are run by gangsters or the stooges working for the gangsters. The gangsters in power are called Kings, Emperors, Presidents , Prime Ministers and even Vlad or Joe Biden ( Vlads business partner and subordinate).

The drivers qualify on friday and on saturday they have a top ten shootout. This was one of the shootout laps. Essentially its the top 10 cars from qualifying go out todo a lap by themselves each and whatever time they put in is final for the race. If they crash or dont do well in the lap they will still start 10th no matter what(unless a car in the shootout before them already did something to ruin their lap). The shootout order for which car goes when is in reversed quali order so 10th best in quali goes first and 1st in quali goes last. The session takes 30 minutes. Its not the fairest system because over the course of 30 minutes varibles like wind/rubber laid down on track/rain/drying track/track temperature and other varibles may affect the drivers but it sure is a entertaining system

Oddly enough, there IS legal road racing in the USA. The Nevada Open Road Challenge. 90 miles of 2-lane state route 318 gets shut down for a day or two a year while racers try to go as fast as possible. The current record is 219.643mph, set in 2017. EDIT;- Turns out that there's a couple more. There's the Big Bend Open Road Racing event in west Texas, and the Sandhills Open Road Challenge in Nebraska There's also the various Indycar street circuits to remember as well. Pikes Peak... Conclusion - there's a LOT of road/street racing in the USA.

Bathurst is such a rabbit hole. Some recommendations - checkout Greg Murphy Lap of the Gods, this was one of the most memorable laps ever around the track. Murphy beat the rest of the field in qualifying by over a second. The other memorable lap for me was Peter Brock's shootout lap in 1991 (he won 9 Bathurst 1000s and the 24 hour race once - he's known as the King of the Mountain). Bathurst is a big event so the teams arrive on the Monday or Tuesday prior. Race is Sunday. They have multiple practice sessions over Thursday and Friday with qualifying on Friday afternoon. The top ten the shootout as you’ve seen here on Saturday afternoon with everyone else locked into their positions. When I worked on the cars they had a practice session Saturday morning and a brief one Sunday morning also.

The three days consist of a variety of practice sessions, individual qualifying sessions (to determine the grid order for the race), support races of various other classes of competition and some display type events (like sending out an old winning car from previous years against a new stock standard street car etc.) The big race itself happens on the Sunday.

They have 6 practice runs where they’re all out on the track tuning the car cutting some laps, one qualifying session Friday, top 10 of that go to the shootout which is the only time it’s one car on the track saturday arve, that’s when the lap of the gods are created, then Sunday it fires up around 11am local time for 1000kms and finishes about an hour before dark. It’s a spectacular event. Have a look at the final laps/highlights of 2014.. That’s one of the best in recent memory.

Top 10 Shootout happens on the Saturday afternoon… it determines who starts on pole position. Back in the day it was more like a 8-9 hour race, and strategy was a big part of the race. Fuel stops, brake changes ect ect….. but now it’s a flat out 6 hr sprint race. Hopefully it’s a dry day as a bit of rain always creates a lot of carnage.

Just to make it clear, every year the top ten drivers have a one lap shootout to determine pole position. One lap, no-else on the track, just the car, the driver and his determination to win pole. Just one lap between first and ten with nothing to stop you except hitting a wall.

One of the best race circuits in the world. Check out hillclimbs there too, they usually start just after forest elbow and finish at McPhillamy Park. It's a public road most of the year. You can drive around it at 60 kmh (it's heavily enforced). I live in Bathurst, if you ever come here when the races aren't on I'll take you for a drive around it. You can't appreciate how steep it is until you have been there.

The last laps in the rain he did everything to pass the winner, but couldn’t get past. Both drivers are hanging it out on the line in the wet....... best racing I have seen.

We were in Bathurst last week. A lot of people getting the facilities ready for the big race. As it is an open public road, you can drive around in either direction with a speed limit of 60kph. Believe me driving over the blind crest of Brock's Skyline and down through the Esses and Forrest Elbow is a real experience at that speed! Also terrific to walk around the track and with 200 metres elevation and over 6 km length, great exercise! The info signs tell the story of The Chase and how it was added as a safety measure to slow the cars before Murray's Corner. Inadvertently they created one of the worlds fastest bends!!! There are a ciuple of small farms, various houses and 2 vineyards in the interior of the track. AND we counted at least 50 Eastern Grey kangaroos happily grazing wherever they want. These represent a real risk on race day should they get frightened and jump the fence. Search uTube, it has happened mid race before!

Depending on how one is watching the race, there is a live commentary, car positions, gaps between cars, etc that's provided by the organisers. A similar thing, but better, than when I watch F1 on the TV and race data on the PC.

For reference 3:18 is called Conrod Straight. It's almost 2km long. V8 Supercars (these ones you're wathcing) get up to almost 300km/h . There did not used to be a chicane at the end. This was added to reduce speeds and save lives. However most drivers reach the start of the chicane at 290km/h (180mph).

That track is out of this world. I have driven it in race direction once in a street car and it is tight and I would imagine at the speeds they are doing, very unforgiving. Lots of places that the load on the car is just wrong for the grip offered by the camber and road surface. It is a ballet as much as it is a drive.

And the drivers know every turn every bump on the track, its crazy. listen to the guy who commentates there Mark Skaife and old driver he knows the course so well , a lot of commentators are exdrivers... during qualifying we get the top ten qualifiers and the all run a hot lap each to sort the first10 spots on the grid, we call it the top ten shoot out... its exciting the day before the big race

The race will probably be longer than 7 hours this year as they're forecasting rain for the whole weekend. In fact there's been so much rain in the Central West of NSW (where Bathurst is located) there's a flood watch in place for areas near the track. It shouldn't affect the race though.

It’s an Aussie tradition and it goes for 6 hours but anything can happen in 6 hours and you will kick yourself if you walk out the room. I believe the time still stands. I'll give you my opinion of the V8 supercars . Having watched the ATCC since the late 70s both live and on tv I can honestly say the V8 supercars as good as it is is not even close to as good as the old Group C/Group A days of the 80s and 90s . If you would like to see and compare the two there is a KZbin channel named Super100MPH which has old live telecast footage from the 60s through to the late 80s with some amazing racing . Watching some of this will give you the experience of seeing where V8 supercars came from and why Bathurst is so important .

Adelaide 500 has the best street track on "city" streets . A apart of the super car series as well . They used to race the F1 there many yrs ago. That was unbelievable to be on the edge of the race track . Also went to the LeMans race they had on new yrs eve . The first and only time it came to Australia . The only time drivers get the track to them selfs, is the top 10 shoot out, and thats only for the 10 qualifiers. All practice sessions are full field, but often range from half an hour to an hour, so theres usually plenty of time to get a fast lap on your own. But yes, this is still the fastest ever Supercars lap time, I believe GT3 has beat it though... This was only a few years ago

This lap is part of what's called tge top ten shoot out where the 10 best qualifying drivers get a one lap hot lap to try and get onto pole position or at the least try and better there position on the line up. Scott no longer has the fastest lap at Bathurst Chaz Moztert does. He beat it by a hundredths of a second if I remember rightly. So it wasn't beaten by much but still very quick none the less.

Hate to say it but Scot appears to be one of those Kiwi driving freaks like Bruce McLaren......almost as good as a past Aussie speedway driver ( midget specialist ) named Black Jack but often referred to as Sir. lol

The lines aren't part of the course. The lines are there because when not racing this is a regular public road that anybody can drive on. The lines denote the road shoulder.

As you know the track, you are aware of Reid Park to McPhilamy Park..... then to Skyline. Young blokes have trouble getting their cars through there at the 60 klm speed limit. I know one who understeered his Falcon GT across the track into the Armco on the other side..... he always admitted he was only doing the allowed 60 klm but could not stop the slide or turn the car. The race cars have been taking that section of track at over 110 mph since the first Falcon GTHO ‘s, which were slightly improved road cars, available to buy from Ford . The car my mate was driving is an XA Falcon GT...... a much better handling Car than any from 1969 to 1972...... especially the Monaro’s..... Those guys that race in the BIG game are all freaks...... the young McLachlan was known to get the Ford airborne across the top of Skyline. lol

Bro you use all the road on the way into a corner and all the road on the way out of a corner and you use as much as the curbs as you can as long as it doesn't unsettle the car, some curbs you don't touch
