The show is called Burnistoun and is shown here in Scotland. And is quite true having to talk to a machine up here can be like this more often than not. I'm always shouting at my Alexa after having to repeat myself several times! Although it is getting better. The Kevin Bridges stand up on voice recognition is much funnier imo, but follows the same premise. If you can find that I'd definitely check it out. There were another few shows similar to this, Scotch and Wry, with the fabulous Rikki Fulton and his priest sketch; then Naked Video, which spawned Rab C Nesbitt; Absolutely; and Chewing the Fat, which spawned Still Game. If you like Scottish humour, you should definitely check them out, especially Still Game as it's more up to date. Great video again, keep them coming 😊

I’ve actually had this happen to me in Tower Hamlets offices and at a court building in london. also it was truly an”American” sounding A.I. Voice. there was no intercom or phone in both of these lifts so I was completely stuck for a good few minutes - tried explaining that to the people who got on in the lift at canary wharf and they looked at me as if i was mental. 😊 all the best Rab

Oh this hits home , I called a well known energy company and it took 7 attempts with totally different responses to what I asked to finally get a human being . These voice activated robots vary massively in their abilities to understand contact with humans which makes this both funny and empathic with the audience . Loved it ! As usual an interesting choice and a great reaction Amanda .

Some poor young American girls must have had a similar experience with me in a lift back in the 80's in Florida. They were trying to ask me the time so, being Cornish, I put on my broadest accent and said to them, "Tis five and twenty to four my lovers".! The kicking I was getting on my ankles from my wife was well worth it to see the expressions on their faces. Eventually I just had to show them my watch. Great fun.!

Back in the 1990's when I first came to the USA (from the UK) voice technology was in its infancy. We were an HP reseller (computers and printers) and the HP helpline had voice recognition. Needless to say I got used to being transfered to lots of new and different departments.

I get the same problem with my Birmingham accent, for my own amusement one evening I sat in front of the tv going through a range of accents in an attempt to change channels, I discovered that if I butcher the Geordie accent my tv works. I did pause at one point to ponder my mental wellbeing, questions have to be asked when a man in his late 50s is shouting at his tv in a pirate accent.

Amanda, if you really want to try to understand the accent of Scotland's largest city, look for 'Parliamo Glasgow'. It was first broadcast in black and white in the mid 1960s but was re-done in colour about ten years later. It is a spoof of a TV series teaching native English speakers to learn Italian (Parliamo Italiano). It halts the conversation periodically when the actors explain some of the Glaswegian expressions they have just used in faux Received Pronunciation English. Having grown up in Edinburgh, there have been times where I have struggled understanding someone from Glasgow but there is not really a single Scottish accent. The accent around Fraserburgh, known as The Doric, in the north-east can be as difficult to understand as that of Glasgow.

Hey Amanda. Found this amusing given that I now am an expat Scot who finds folks in my adopted homeland (NZ) can struggle with my accent let alone Siri, Alexa or god forbid the dreaded automated call answering help desk. Anyway watched a number of your UK comedy reactions and would like to suggest you look up Ricky Fulton. An older Scots comedian, late 70’s to late 90’s (think Dave Allen sketches) who did a show called Scotch & Wry. Particular characters I personally found amusing were Supercop, a couple sketches you might enjoy are the one with the Alien or The one with the Mark McManus, the main actor in a detective series called Taggart. Another character was the Reverend I M Jolly and sketch series called the last call. Hopefully you get a chance to check him out and you might even get to put Gerard Bulter’s lessons on Scottish slang to some good use🤓. Anyway thanks for bring a smile, snort and some laughter to the world.

“I go up,” said the elevator, “or down.” “Good,” said Zaphod, “we’re going up.” “Or down,” the elevator reminded him. “Yeah, okay, up please.” There was a moment of silence. “Down’s very nice,” suggested the elevator hopefully. “Oh yeah?” “Super.” “Good,” said Zaphod, “now will you take us up?” “May I ask you,” inquired the elevator in its sweetest, most reasonable voice, “if you’ve considered all the possibilities that down might offer you?” Zaphod knocked one of his heads against the inside wall.” Douglas Adams, The Ultimate Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
