The SISU APC's frame (SISU XA-180, nickname Pasi (Panssari-Sisu)) is built so the pressure of an anti tank mine will spread and won't destroy the vehicle itself. They are old, very uncomfortable off-road and probably a 50.cal will penetrate it but still they are amazing at their job

You should really take a look at SISU's military vehicles. We had the SISU XA-186 as our personnel vehicle in the TmBn in the mid-nineties. (These were specially built for Norway, 22 pieces in total). Back home in Norway, we had some problems with them at our first military exercise. The weight caused the shoulder to slide out on bad roads. (Three SISU rolled off the road in the first exercise). But once you got used to them, they were wonderful machines. In Kosovo, they excelled due to their thick armor as multi-role vehicles. There weren't many enemies who would pick a fight with a SISU XA-186 loaded with a .50 caliber Browning on top.

While SISU did manufacture more convential buses/trucks back in the day the brand now focuses strictly on heavy duty vehicles, typically usage would be agri, construction or logging. Pretty much a Tatra light manufacturer. While their frames are made in-house they make extended usage of outsourced components meaning any buyer can have the new truck taylored to his needs, meaning their trucks are robust but also extremely pricey. The dump truck in the intro shows it has a liftable tandem drive which some years ago was something we truckers could only dream of, same with the driven steerable fifth axle... The '99 and '03 shown @6:45 use Renault sourced cabs, this was prior to the later agreement with MB

For your pronounciation, If you choose finnish as a language on google translate and type in "sisu", then click on the speaker icon, it does a pretty good job on the pronounciation, more enphasis on the second S, and then in finnish, the letter U has more of an O sound to it, but not really the "normal" english O sound, kind of a "harsher" O sound Anyways, the name Sisu comes from the finnish word sisu which doesn't really have a proper translation in english but it sort of means guts, grit, determination, never giving up or backing down, which is a mentality finns are quite famous for having, certainly helped us a lot in the winter war against the Soviets! The special thing about Sisu is that they special build the lorries for its purpose. Usually people buy a chassis, and then fit a frame on top of the original frame to support whatever that lorry will be. A tipper, road rescue etc. Sisu makes the lorry for that purpose, so you don't need the extra frame. They were also the first to have liftable tandem drive, and you could order them with lift on whichever axle you wanted. There are a few Sisu heavy road rescue lorries in Norway :)

the new dodge dart is sold as fiat viaggio but the base is the same as several other brands. fiat/stellantis bought interesting things and streamlined it. (I like fiats, got it from my parents, but I'm car-less now because I have no need, and I had some bad experience with a VW, that needed lots of oil - engine damage, was a fraud case)

You can multitask while driving manual too. I know a guy who rolls joints no problem while driving his (manual) delivery van thru' a busy European city.

A lot of Road Trains in Australia run SISU diffs and axels, they have planetary final drives. Good diffs but $30,000+ to replace.

That was a road construction, not mining operation. In Finland, roads need very good foundations because long winters and permafrost. It's quite common to build them across rocky hills and crush them into construction material.

Sisu is a term which dates back hundreds of years. It is described as being integral to understanding Finnish culture. It is a term for going beyond one's mental or physical capacity, and is a central part of the country's culture and collective discourse.

Greetings from forest. This 70s rather lengthy clip showcases Sisu's products and assembly line at the time. They produced buses, trucks of all sort; for industries, on rails and also for military. Their products were sold to 40 countries, and most significantly to South American countries, where they also had some production. "SISU On Voimaa 70-luvun mainos". Period correct military truck: "sisu A 45 offroad". And modified for off-road use: "4x4 Proto-Sisu Truck in Off-Road race". You have probably seen their military vehicles already, because the UN has used them for decades, and some countries use them too: "Sisu Defence 1986", "Patria XA-188 APC (Armored Personnel Carrier) in Afghanistan" and "Patria Pasi | The Finnish battle taxi that defies the time". If you like tractors: "THIS Is A 200 Horsepower Pocket ROCKET 4 Cylinder Valtra N174 HAND Built In Finland!" and "The Fastest Tractor (Full length) New Guinness World Record, Juha Kankkunen & Nokian Heavy Tyres". At least some time back the Sisu civilian truck cabs were licensed from Renault. But now that Finland is in Nato there will be even more emphasis on their military trucks. On the civilian market Sisu specialises in heavy load vehicles, why it is probably the most common dump truck in Finland.

Wait until you hear all about sisu, and their history, eaton fuller transmissions, Caterpillar engines etc, they are totally awesome, very robust and capable, each one is built specifically for the customers need, basically endless possibilities
@jukkahatinen600810 ай бұрын
SISU make much more military vehicles of all kinds than commercial trucks. This modern day SISUs have Mercedes Benz cabins and engines. But you can actually order it with fuller manual transmission. SISU mainly uses by logging industry and all sorts of earthworks and gravel trucking companies. Over ten years ago SISU use Cummins and Caterpillar engines and fuller transmissions and sadly now they use only Mercedes Benz engines. SISU Axles are sold in USA as well and they are very famous of their axles and military vehicles these days.

That military truck at least to me is known as Proto-Sisu and that thing is WICKED. These have been already largely replaced in military, so they sold these to civilian use for hobbyists. Well my pal is a off-road guy and a truck driver.... So he wanted a off-road truck, and that's exactly what he got. I was riding with him once on Kiimaskallio off-road track and it was amazing. It's a beast. It just goes. I'm watching the terrain like "no way in hell" huge rocks with waist deep mud in between, on a steep climb and I'm like no way in hell but this monster doesn't give a af, it just goes. It's one of those "if you get it stuck it's completely your fault" vehicles.

Sisu did make their own cabins like 30 years ago but around 1997 when they launch their E-series Renault cabins take place. Axles and frames they have allways made themselves but I think Marmon Herrington bought that axle factory like 10-15 years ago. Finns arent good at keeping companies in their own hands at all.. The truck I've allways wanted to drive is Sisu with mercedes V8 and Eaton Fuller non synchronized trans.
