It’s a 4 hour sea ferry crossing from Britain to Ireland The quickest crossing by ferry from Britain to France is 5 hours. The shortest route, Poole England to Cherbourg, France takes just 5 hours. Daily sailings from Portsmouth to Caen, the most popular route, takes 6 hours 30 minutes. It takes 35 minutes to get from Britain to France using the Euro tunnel. With your car on the shuttle or without your car. Once you are on the shuttle. You turn your car engine off and after 35 minutes. You can start your engine again and drive off Le Shuttle and you are in France.

What you need to remember is wherever you live in England or Wales, you are never more than 70 miles from a coastal town and the amenities. There are villages that offer very cheap living just a few minutes from all the towns and cities on this list. Living costs in London for example are 2 or 3 times those of smaller towns and villages just a few miles away or 100 miles away( an hour away by train). Trains connect EVERY town and City to every other town and City across the UK. Even outlying isolated hill and moorland villages have regular bus services to towns and other villages. You can live a quiet and peaceful life and still have access to all kinds of festivals and theatres.

Tyler In the UK We have housing areas called Hamlets, Villages, Towns depicting the areas historical population numbers. And then we have Cities, whose description is historically afforded by its having its own Cathedral (as a general rule, we have 4 cities without one). There are 97 Cathedrals in the Uk. As I understand it, wherever you are in the UK you are never more than 70 miles from the coast. The UK is very small (but mighty). People freely move around between England, Scotland and Wales to live, for sport and for leisure. Ireland being safe, I’ll leave that to you to Google the history. Sheffield is a huge industrial area famous for its “Sheffield steel”. You need to do your homework. It’s very easy to find out about every town in the uk and to view the web cams in every town. Come over and tour the entire country by coastal train. We have a lot of large “towns” that have massive and varied cultural vibes. Whether that is art, surfing or history. Totally varied.

There are more than four cities without a cathedral in the UK including Bath, Cambridge, Leeds, Plymouth, Southampton, Stoke-on-Trent, and Wolverhampton In Scotland, a city has never needed a cathedral to be called a city. People move witin the UK for a variety of reasons, Tyler. The most common one is employment, perhaps when you get a promotion at another of the company's regional offices, or simply because all the industry that used to support the area you live in has gone, and there are better opportunities elsewhere. Others may move in connection with new relationships, property inheritance, for family obligations, to be closer to other family who already live in a particular area - or to get away from it all, or to be somewhere more exciting, or where the weather is better, and so on... You're so right to question this use of "affordable," which is so loved by political parties that love capitalism! Never mind the number of people living on the streets, or with friends, or in overcrowded or substandard accommodation: 10% of the new homes in this development are available on "affordable terms," they us. Just a snip at £295,000 for a 1-bedroom flat with a nice view... Yeah right, affordable my @{&$%. There may be a few similarities, but there really are no two places in the UK that are exactly the same - all of them are unique in their own ways!

The "structure on the left" in St Albans is St Albans Cathedral, which was St Albans Abbey prior to the Dissolution. It dates back to the 12th century, and stands on a site that has been a place of Christian worship for 1,700 years.

Portsmouth is right on the English Channel, France is some 140 miles distant - I quote, Portsmouth to Caen: The most popular route, this crossing takes around 6 hours on average for daily sailings, and 7-8 hours on average for overnight sailings. The distance between the two ports is about 126 nautical miles.

It's extremely common for the Welsh/Scottish/Irish and English to live anywhere in each others respective countries. You have to remember that these countries are borderless, so travel is very easy. Incidentally, I could name many other places in the UK that are, imo, the most ideal to live. I suppose it's all kinda subjective.

I think the ‘safety issues’ that the video spoke of in regards to Northern Ireland might have something to do with ‘The Troubles’ where paramilitary attacks weren’t particularly uncommon and troops from the British Army patrolled some areas.

I keep my fingers constantly crossed that one day Tyler will let his gaze fall on the comments section and see just one of the many times people have explained how the "shire" part of any place over here is pronounced. Or that he will ever type a place-name into google to see how it's pronounced! Lots of reactors start off not knowing this and yet, out of all those I watch, Tyler is the only one that still says it incorrectly. After all the time he's been reacting to the UK it's now getting to seem rude - as if it's not worth even bothering about. I expect because Brighton is unique , it doesn't come up often - and have never yet seen anyone reacting to a vid. about it. Even pictures of it that sometimes come up are really old - and feature an old landmark which was replaced by another, in another spot, years ago. So I was gob-smacked to see it come up as No.1.But no mention of the most unusual Palace (called The Pavilion) in the whole of GB! (Great Britain). Intact Georgian Squares, Sea on one side and miles & miles of rolling (protected) green hills on the other. It's tiny, cobbled, Medieval passageways called "Laines", The world's most famous Toy Museum (lots of nostalgic fun to visit); renowned Street art , quirky old pubs & clubs; the most diverse population in GB...and so much more. But I've often wondered if the reason it never makes it to these US vids. is because it's also the gay capital of GB - and/or it's annual Nude Bicycle Marathon? No-one ever judges anyone by the way they dress, or their gender or occupation. So just sitting at an outdoor pub or restaurant is an adventure in itself! And so much local art, theatre, comedy; and food from African to Turkish to Albanian, French, Greek...you name it, Brighton's got it! (Plus ocean-fresh Fish 'n' chips for the tourists.)

Im Scottish, my siblings and I all moved to England in our early twenties, though now approaching fifty I feel quite a strong pull back to Scotland and I know my eldest brother and his English wife feel it too. I have lived in a small town and a village on the Cornish South coast and I’m now in a city in the North East of England…so I am gradually making my way back. I just have to figure out where I want to be. I will add too that my paternal Grandmother came from a historic town just on the English side of the English Welsh border and moved to the West Coast of Scotland after meeting my Granda during WWII. Also, it wouldn’t be difficult for someone to live in Bristol but commute to Cardiff or vice versa. They are pretty close together.

His list was very subjective. Each person will have a range of reasons for placing certain towns or cities above others. St Albans is for instance 20 mins by train from central London so despite it being its own city, it is proximity wise almost like a suburb. Brighton is the uk equivalent of San Francisco, a big counter culture movement, hippies, hipsters and the very large LGBT population.

Thats (the massive Abbey from the air) St. Albans Abbey, I think the nave is the longest in the UK but I stand to be corrected. The Abbey was founded in 793 by King Offa of Mercia on the site of the shrine to St Alban, an early Christian martyr. Just down the hill from the Abbey lies the walled Roman town of Verulamium which has remains of its City walls extant, the city being suddenly deserted when the population fled a plague, I quote - The great plague, known as the Plague of Justinian in the 540s, and is recorded in Irish annals. It was bubonic plague, like the Black Death.

Hastings is the birth place of modern England. Because of the battle of Hastings where king Harold was killed by William the Conqueror who then ruled the entire nation of England as one nation. I am a Englishman who moved to Wales but I don't live anywhere near Cardiff which is actually the Welsh Capital City as Edinburgh is the Capital City of Scotland and Belfast is the Capital of Northern Ireland. But London is the Capital city of England and the UK as a whole. A lot of people in the British Isles move into all parts of the UK. Irish Scots Welsh and English all intermingle all over the UK.
