The raised index finger by the umpire means “you’re out”. The Wicketkeeper is the only fielding player who wears gloves. The long run up by the bowler (Pat Cummins) is characteristic of a fast bowler. Fast bowlers use the speed of the run up to add speed and power to the delivery. That ball would have been bowled in excess of 90MPH. That’s also why the wicketkeepers wear gloves and stand so far back behind the stumps - so they have time to see the ball and be able to catch it (without injury from the repeated catching when the batsmen keep missing the ball because of the speed of the bowling).

The hands if on the handle of the bat are considered part of it so if the ball is deflected off the hand and caught you are out. The guy behind the stumps (3 sticks) is the only one allowed gloves. He catches the miss balls from the bowler so is afforded some protection as it would wreck your hands over the years. As it is the "wicketkeepers" hands are real gnarly already.

The batter's gloves are viewed as part of the bat as they are holding the handle. So caught off the gloves as in #18 is treated the same as caught off the bat.

Glasses 🕶️ are not necessary but become very important part of the cricket. Sometimes it's very hard to catch the high catch due to sunlight.

The wicket keeper wears two sets of gloves, inner and outer. The inners are leather, wet, to help absorb some of the impact of the ball hitting the hands. By the end of a days play a wicketkeepers hands are red raw.

A few Aussie ones were omitted somehow. The Glen McGrath one in Adelaide off Shane Warne. And the David Boon catch for Shane Warne's hat-trick were both unbelievable. This might be an English channel. But you might want to find those for some REAL good catches. That one that you thought wasn't hit by the batter, actually was.

Just to confuse things, in Australia we score it 8 wickets for 163 runs, rather that the other way round in the UK.

Cricket was played in early America, but didn't catch on. It is a game much enjoyed by Nations which play it. Tests go for five days, and can end in a draw! One day, and twenty over matches are easier to appreciate. Try watching a T20 match or its highlights.

Love that you're into cricket now too lol. You should watch a few 20/20 games as they are quick and exciting. One team have 2 batsmen and the other team field. They bowl 6 balls per over....that pitch is about 25 metres long... the fielder only have to catch the ball before it hits the ground or goes over the outer lines...once the ball it caught the batsman is out...and another member of his team will come in to bat next. they have 11 players each.

Let me explain you the scorecard suppose, Aus 160-3(18.2) maxwell 50*(35) & stoines 13*(7) Australia scored 160 runs, 3 of the player are bing Out. They played (18.2) over. 6 balls = 1 over. they played 18 over and 2 balls. which means they played 110 balls, 10 ball still remaining as A Team can play 20 over per side/innings. player: maxwell scored 50 by playing 35 balls/pitch. stoines scored 13 runs by playing 7 balls/pitch.

Think of a catch like an NFL catch. They have to have control and even after hitting the ground. Then once theyre 'downed' they can do what they want with the ball and it doesnt matter. They wear the wide brimmed hats in test cricket (white clothing) because theyre in the sun for 6 hours in a day, 5 days in a row.

this was a Pommy cricket 'best of'.. look up Shane Warne, the best spin bowler in cricket history, sadly died recently. Also, did you know, America usec to be big players and fans of cricket? The reason America dropped cricket and concentrated in baseball was because of the Poms, who refused to allow the US to participate 8n the international competitions, the Tests. So, the USA understandably packed up their kit! America is starting up again actually, so expect to see some comps set up And lastly, the Las Vegas Cricket Club has played US competition cricket for years! Cricket first started in 1709 in America! It really decli ed in 1909 when the Imperial Cricket Conference decided only Commonwealth nations like Oz, South Africa, India etc could play... so America was pushed out. But, America played the first international cricket match with Canada in 1844 and England played its first international match against America in 1859. I suspect the Americans were starting to thump the Poms at cricket was the real reason! So America was playing cricket before baseball, and before Australia was even discovered by Captain Cook in 1770... So how about them apples?
