a lot of these player's names are in Afrikaans which developed from Dutch, which is why some of them are so difficult to pronounce. one thing to remember is that in Afrikaans when pronouncing "W", we pronounce it the way you would pronounce "V" in "Volume" we also pronounce "V" like F. So like Henco Van Wyk would be pronounced "Henkoo Fun Vake"

Hey man. Do you have a video on you and your back story. Are you an NFL coach? How long have you been interested in Rugby? Did you study coaching? It would be interesting to know these things. If coaching isn't your job then it should be. You really know what's what.

Hey JJ! I don't have a video on my backstory currently. I got more interested in rugby this year after my first LRZ video which was completely random. My friend Josh from Wales wanted to get my perspective on a rugby athlete moving into the NFL because I played college football I didn't study coaching or anything. I played football my entire life and really love researching and analyzing. My background is in Computer Science and Mathematics, but my passion is athletic performance, nutrition, and health When I finished football I competed in natural bodybuilding, then Crossfit. Now I train to stay in shape. I appreciate your question. I'll make a background video and talk more about my past for sure Thanks for your kind words and feedback. It means a lot to me. For the little taps you can get from penalties/ free kicks. For any penalty there are 4 options: kick to touch, scrum, kick at posts or tap. Being in the red zone and getting a play like that could push you over as you only have to make five metres. Teams would make decisions depending on where they are on the pitch.
@QSNgg
@QSNgg 10 ай бұрын
Thanks for letting me know how that works David. It makes sense now
@anotherstormer
@anotherstormer 10 ай бұрын
The "tap and go" is an option you can take off of a free kick. Essentially its just a kick. You can kick for touch or open field, tap (kick) and run it or opt for a scrum with your feed in. If you kick out you lose possession though. Only on a kick out off a penalty will you retain the throw in.
@anotherstormer
@anotherstormer 10 ай бұрын
You could also take this option off of a full penalty but usually or in practice it is mostly used off a free kick. Most teams will prefer the line-out feed off a kick for touch if you have the throw in on a full penalty.

AH man as a South African, I love your videos. I can't believe your knowledge is already so good just off a few videos. All the other people I watch that react to rugby are well not as smart to put it lightly. So just to clear up some things. Most of the people you saw in this video are ages 20-28. I think Elrigh Louw was the oldest in the video, but people like Sacha Mngumozulu are only 20 years old same with Ruan Venter, Henco Van Wyk, are all under 25 years old which is crazy that they just got out of school. To also explain like the back row and outside back terminology. Outside back is 11,,,,, 14,,,,, and 15. So they can play anywhere in that positions. Back row is 6,,,, 7 ,,,,, and 8. So they can play any of those positions. You get players that you can call versitile, that means they can play almost like anywhere on the field, most of the players come from 7's. which if you don't know sevens is rugby, but with only seven guys and they don't have like the URC tournements and those type of stuff. And to explain some of the jerseys here, In South Africa there are seperate teams, that are not international teams if you understand, Like Pretoria has the Bulls, Cape Town Is the Stormers, Kwazulu-Natal is the Sharks and so on, so all the cities of countries in south africa have a rugby team playing. Those rugby teams hold the international rugby teams players. Like Canan Moodie Plays for the bulls Kurt-lee Arendse also for the bulls, Sacha plays for the Stormers and so on. And some of the big big players like Cheslin Kolbe, go to Japan and play for their rugby clubs, because they get offered a lot of money, but they still play for the Springboks for international test matches. There are a few South African players that have completely moved to other lands, but then they have to have a ID in that land and all that stuff, And they have to live there for like 4+ years. Then they can play for the lands international team like Duhan van Der Mervwe Is south african, but moved to Scotland to play there. The tap and go's you can set up from a penalty, but it is usually only taken when they are close to the try-line
@QSNgg
@QSNgg 7 ай бұрын
Thank you so much for this incredibly detailed and insightful comment! I'm truly humbled by your kind words about my videos and rugby knowledge. It means a lot coming from a South African fan, given your country's rich rugby heritage. I really appreciate you taking the time to explain so many aspects of South African rugby. The information about player ages is fascinating - it's incredible to think that talents like Sacha Mngumozulu and Ruan Venter are still so young! Your explanations of rugby terminology and positions are super helpful. I'll definitely keep the outside back (11, 14, 15) and back row (6, 7, 8) positions in mind for future videos. And thanks for clarifying about versatile players and their connection to Sevens rugby. The breakdown of how South African rugby teams are organized by city and how they feed into the national team is really interesting. It's great to understand how players like Canan Moodie and Kurt-lee Arendse fit into the broader rugby landscape in South Africa. I'm always eager to learn more, so your insights about international moves (like Cheslin Kolbe to Japan) and the rules for playing for other national teams are super valuable. Thanks again for being so awesome and for sharing your knowledge. Comments like yours really help me improve my content and understanding of the game. I'm looking forward to talking to you more!

When awarded a penalty which is short for penalty kick, you need to kick the ball. This includes simply putting the ball on the floor and just tapping it with your foot which then counts as a kick. It all depends on what the captain deems will give his team the largest probability of scoring a try. For example, should penalties be awarded closer to the touch line from say anything within 30 meters from the tryline, you'll often see teams kick for touch into the corner which will then give them the throw in at the lineout from where they can set up a maul. Penalties given 5 meter from the tryline and say closer to the centre of the pitch will often result in the captain calling a scrum, but they also have the option of just tapping it and giving it to the big men to burst over the line! I must say, you see more and more teams utilising the 5 meter tap option nowadays (other than at school where there is usually that one massive kid) which was a trend started by the Bulls a few seasons back! The captain also have the option of kicking at goal. This will mean walking back in line from where the penalty was given to give the kicker a reasonable angle to the posts for 3 points vs the potential 7 from a try.

South Africa is a rugby factory. We may not have electricity or running water. But at least we are pumping out future Springboks. --- also we HATE those turquoise kits. It's a disgrace to the green and gold. ----- And it's usually a 5 meter penalty. When the opposing team made error close to their try line. The other team can tap and go. (Usually the quicker the better, other times, it's strategically done slow). The captain can call from a scrum also.

SA is definitely a rugby factor 100%. I see it now that I've been learning more, how powerful a nation you have. It seems I'm the only one that loved the turquoise kits 🤣 Thanks for letting me know about the 5m penalty too Jospeh. I appreciate you always boss

Rassie’s coaching history is amazing even before the Boks, same as The late Kitch Kristie.. They were both winners… Rassie won the currie cup ( biggest cup in provincial rugby) for Free State 3 years in a row for a team that hadn’t won it in 27 years and never before that. Kitch won the Super 10 in his day and the Currie cup for Transvaal in those days and never lost a game as Springbok coach to win WC 95 Just a bit of history on coaches at the highest level in this game… To me the 2 greatest ever in rugby

Bro AMERICA got the ATHLETES for sure get rugby going on the grassroots at schools you gonna be a powerhouse here in south africa primary schools have under 6 years old teams playing school against school all the way up to college / university. High school you have ie under 12 years with up to three teams under 12 first team second team third team all competing against anorher schools under 12 years olds first second and third teams then the next level is under 15 year olds competing.
@QSNgg
@QSNgg 9 ай бұрын
Yeah your 100% right about that. We have the athletes, just not the experience and exposure at this point. That's why it's great we now have MLR to help us get more experience in the game to hopefully be able to compete at a high level by 2031 Like you mentioned our schools are dedicated towards football and other sports. We don't have any rugby specific schools and mostly clubs from my knowledge It will be interesting to see if America will ever develop a solid rugby XVs to compete at a high level
