Ronnie Barker was a real wordsmith. It was not realised until he retired that he had written a lot of the sketches. They had been submitted for consideration under an fictitious name. He lived near to me in Pinner

It's a shame that sketch shows are in the past now and our comedy is still funny but different these days. You go with the times. At least we have you tube though to remember these classics and Alan sharing them round the world

The Two Ronnies is often shown on the UK TV channel Gold, but they omit eps which contain sketches in which they play Asian or Jewish characters.

One joke you might have missed was when he said "must have a butchers down her tunic" That was a word play from Cockney rhyming slang. Butchers hook = look. So "have a butchers" means to "have a look".

Another comedy duo of the 1970's is Morecombe & Wise. If you haven't dicovered them yet I really recommend you explore & react, they were another staple of primetime weekend family viewing. Top draw celebreties & stars of the period knew they'd really "arrived" when they'd been invited onto the Morecombe & Wise Show to be lampooned 🤣.

There's nothing remotely racist or offensive about the two Ronnies as the comedy is mostly based on the 'play on words' throughout their sketches. Their material is decades old now but its still hilarious 🤣

I'm really enjoying your journey through UK popular culture from the perspective of a middle aged blue colar american male 🙂. May I recommend a lesser known star of stage. A performance poet called Les Barker. His comedy is utterly ridiculous & takes a weird surreal twist on everyday life with lots of whimsical concepts thrown in to add to the fun. Look for: Guide Cats for the Blind & also Ocasional Table. Have fun exploring the Les Barker rabit hole.

I like the kamikaze joke being a play on kazi, which is what Brits call the toilet and kazi is in fact the Zulu word for lavatory! I love word play in jokes, it's a fun way to stimulate the brain. Farty lefty types, of course would hate that sort of thing, deeming it "racist",blah de blah, but what would they know about comedy anyway, 'cause they're just a bunch of dreary jobbies, anyhow. A Pal told me a ripper a while back that I'd never heard before and it's an old one, but it was new to me and I was on the floor in tears sounding like an asthmatic seal that's lost it's inhaler, plus it's the way my Pal told it which is an important factor..... "Waiter, Waiter! These prawns are rubbery." "Ohh, fank Yoo!" One of my favourite jokes on the top ten list.😁 Here's to political incorrectness! ✌️🤪
@SpeccyMan
@SpeccyMan Жыл бұрын
It is actually spelled khazi and it is either a Cockney (or possibly Polari) word derived from the Italian casa meaning house.
@robanderson473
@robanderson473 Жыл бұрын
@@SpeccyMan Well fancy that! I knew casa is Italian for house or home, so that makes sense but gabinetto translates to lavatory and toilette is well, toilet! Oh I don't know, languages eh? They sure are funny as well as confusing, ha! Brits tend to mangle languages, but no-one mangles the English language like Aussies, haha! Anyway getting back to khazi, I can't remember where I learnt it meaning lavatory, but looking further into it (errrgh, smelly pun!) Zulu for toilet is - indlu yangasese, so perhaps khazi is taken from the gasese bit to become khazi, because it's all in the way folk pronounce words I s'pose. But anyway, let's just keep it simple and just call it the good old bog! Cheers for clearing that up, anyway. Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go to the dunny! 😁👍

'Must have butchers down her tunic' means, Butcher's hook, must have a look' so they came up with the two pork chops which may have come from a butchers 'hook' . It's all a play on words and only the British will understand.

At some point I will go into Open All Hours past season 1. Porridge, and Only Fools and Horses are shows I'm doing exclusively for my channel members. At some point I'll take an episode or two of each and edit them to see if I can't get a portion of them on here since both are heavily struck and blocked by the BBC in my experience. Thin Blue Line I'll attempt. I looked at 2 or 3 episodes of Phoenix Nights and at some point I'll restart but to be honest 3 episodes in I thought my eyes and ears would bleed from boredom.

Some I left in for the comedic value of the wait what factor some will have since some come through and I couldn't make out what was said, knew it wasn't what's on screen but was funny as hell reading it.
