They were without doubt the best comedy duo of their time. As you say, it’s all about word play & the scripts are brilliantly funny. In my opinion, their expressions are half the comedy value. I have all the ‘Two Ronnies’ shows on DVD & it’s mandatory viewing every 2-3yrs. I never get bored of watching them.

The "Blackberry" sketch was recorded after the death of Ronnie Barker. The role of the shopkeeper is played by another well known comedian, Harry Enfield, who can be seen to be having difficulties keeping his composure at times. I suspect that anyone taking on that role would have the same problem, the whole sketch is hilariously ridiculous. I really miss the Two Ronnies, may they rest in peace.

Comedy gold. Although to be absolutely correct two of the sketches were not from the 'Two Ronnie's' show. The black and white 'class' sketch was from the 'Frost Report' in around 1964 or so. The Two Ronnie's TV show didn't start until 1971. Also the 'My Blackberry is not working' is from a Christmas Special called the ' One Ronnie' after Ronnie Barker sadly passed away. They are both sadly now gone. RIP. Still from wherever they came, they are all classics and will still be laughed at by our great great grandchildren and beyond. Quality comedy!
@MrSinclairn2 жыл бұрын
Excellent compilation,EB(Alan),👌although the Harry Enfield one isn't a proper Two Ronnies sketch😏;the well-known B & W 1960s one with John Cleese is a expertly-written,still relevant satire on the British class system [which was repeated/updated twice for the later 1970s 'Two Ronnies' series] and of course,the world-famous '4 Candles' sketch,written verbatim by Barker from a real-life hardware store incident viewed by a friend! 🤣 Proper Mastermind is still ongoing,but do you note the contrast between the comedic versions of 'The Two Ronnies' and 'Morecambe and Wise'?😉

INTERESTING FACT: I say that, but I definitely do find it interesting..know if you would be interested in the following (and this can only make them even more genius than we knew).. Here goes.. Whilst both Ronnies would have the ideas, write the jokes and flesh out the characters themselves, there was one exception to this. A seemingly eccentric man used to send in to the producers sketch ideas, with suggested lines, in the hope of maybe seeing a joke of his on screen. Anyway, they were so clever and funny that the producers couldn’t help showing them to the two Ronnies, and they agreed some were great and tweaked them and they got into the programmes quite often. The guy’s name was Gerald Wiley. With no return address, the couldn’t write back or pay him. It was years later that Ronnie Barker finally admitted it was him all along. His reasoning was that his ideas were genuinely funny, and didn’t just get a yes from the producers, just because he’d written it. Clever, no?
