But probably there are less of them used because when I go to a store I take the plastic bag I bought last time... or god knows when I bought it, so they are re-used... i think that is also why some people use them just to carry stuff around, it's convenient, you always have one by hand because you will go to a shop after work

@helimalm: Czech beer was also created by Germans (just like the prototype of the Dollar in Joachimsthal). keep in mind that Bohemia had not just also many Germans but was historically also part of the Holy Roman Empire (just like the Netherlands, Belgium, North Italy, Austria, Switzerland, Luxemburg etc.).

@@publicminx true that! the most famous Czech beer was brewed by a German brewer who was hired by the townspeople of Pilsen (because the beer culture was there, just beer was like american beer, pisswaser). The split between Czech and Slovaks was decided by both governments. Czecho-Slovakia was a Federation, and Slovakia's political representatives wished to change it to a Confederation with "backup" from the central government if something went wrong. People on both sides don't want to split, but there was no referendum on this issue. In retrospect, it was a good move. It cleans the table between Czech and Slovaks.

The simple reason as for why Czechoslovakia got split into two separate countries is because we were two separate countries/areas in the past (before WW1 (Czechia was mostly regions of Bohemia and Moravia, Slovakia was considered to just be northern part of hungary and there were long-standing efforts to basically eliminate slovak nationality) and during WW2 (Nazis made Czechia into its protectorate, Slovakia became a satelite state of nazi Germany)) and we were always basically just two nations living in their own land but with a joint country. It was only post-wars times when we were a single country but as the freedom became a thing after communism left our land, we decided to peacefully split into two separate countries with the start of 1993.

@petrskupa6292
@petrskupa6292 4 ай бұрын
@@neuralwarpYou mean Bohemia? Unfortunately Bohemia is not appropriate name for our country, because it is just about half of the country. The other part is Moravia and Bohemia + Moravia = Czechia (It’s the same as calling the whole Britain by the name “England” - the Scots would kill You, if You’d call the whole of of our country by Bohemia - the Moravians would kill You. Literally. They wouldn’t suffer to be called Bohemians. We in Bohemia and people in Moravia do accept as having one nation, yet divided by history and tradition into two historical regions. Or another example would be “Holand” as Holand is just one region within Netherland - not the entire country) Don’t worry, we generally don’t like the “Czechia” either. It’s relatively new name, invented to circumvent the common misconception about Bohemia and misunderstanding about history.

There were several reasons for the split. The main was that indeed, Slovaks felt inferior and wanted emancipation. Well, officially. The true reason was just pure hunger for power of a few individuals in politics. Yes, as a Czech I have to admit that our side pretty much screwed Slovaks over, but not in the way you might think. When there were conferences about the split, our side was already preparing for it, having new notes and coins created when nothing was officially final. To sum it up, you could say we threw them overboard. Sadly, it seems (and according to quite a lot of historians) it was mainly the power, that was interesting. The general public on both sides didn't really want it initially, but then there were some massive campains to promote the split, mainly on the Slovakian side. Czechs on the other hand were reminded of the Slovakian (mostly forced) allying with the Nazi Germany in WWII, and pretty much repeating the "emancipation". While the split was more or less peaceful, Slovakia had it bad. And after the recent elections, they are going to be f*cked again, pretty much by the same mafiosos as before, now obviously in tow with the russian narative.
@paulbeneder9337

I hate when people criticize socks in sandals. It is very practical. When I was younger I did not care about what other people thought, I wore socks in sandals and the result - less sweating, could walk for hours and never had any sores or whatever on my feet. Without socks I walk for 15 minutes and on the edges of the leather where it touches your skin I get calluses and whatnot. Also let's face it, most people's feet are not the pinnacle of beauty so there is no need to show them.

I can't agree more. Especially old men's feet! How often I've nearly thrown up my lunch on the tram after looking down to see a pair of twisted, claw-toed feet in sandals, can't be counted. I'll GLADLY take socks in sandals for that reason alone. ;-)

Some good thing about Czechia to offset the negativity: - Castles and chateaus. So many beautiful castles and chateaus. Even if some of them are just ruins, they still have their charm. (Plus the Prague Castle is supposed to be one of the largest castle complexes in Europe) - Classical music. Call me basic, but Vltava by Bedřich Smetana owns my heart. - We produce really good beer AND wine. - The oldest university in the central Europe. - The word "robot" is of Czech origin (created by a Czech writer Karel Čapek).

3:10 Prague is the most underrated city in Europe - but also the biggest trourist trap. Worth visiting? Beyond the scale "yes". Need to check the change they give you? Absolutely yes, even after 20 beers.

One thing Peter didn't include is our sense of humour. We love to shit at anything. Including ourselves. If you wonder how bad it is, Nazi's called us Laughing hyienas because just someone occupying and terrorizing your territory doesn't exclude them from being target. In fact, it makes us joke even harder in retaliation.

Fun video. But seriously. Prague and the Czech republic is s great destination. Friendly, beautiful and safe. And the beer is fantastic. I go there with friends, the wife and i even whent with my two small kids. We all lived it. It’s aldo s bargain compared to Lindon, Paris, Rome and other typical cities Americans visit in Europe. If tou go to Europe, the Czech republic is a great European insider tip. Cheers from Norway. By the way. It’s a myth that you have to dress fancy in Europe. Maybe a bit in Paris, Milan and Rome but we mostly wear jeans and sneakers 😎

As a Czech, plastic bags are not free, something around 4-10 CZK (around 0,20 - 0,40 USD), and this is kinda accurate, a bit of exaggeration, but accurate. And yeah, we used to be number 2 in the unhealthiest in the world.

Is it true that Americans don't use electric kettles?!
@Pidalin
@Pidalin 4 ай бұрын
Yes and with their 110V system, it would be really a slow kettle, when you have 16A fuse, it gives you "nice" 1760W for one socket circuit, but typical european kettle can have like 1,8-2 kw and it still heats few minutes to boil that water.

Here we need pay for those plastic bags or paper one but are many times more pricely than plastic one and fun fact sometimes those plastic cost more than some beer in shops with you could a get like 1 and half of can for same price if its some sale of beer then even 2 big beers from supermarket for same price how that 1 plaatic bag xd. I am from Slovakia with is really similiar to czech republic and in past we was even 1 country and our language is really similiar too

I think that was more of a comedy sketch thing. About 10 years ago I went to CR for a trip. My hubby and I took a roadtrip from Germany to Prague (Czech Republic. We only spent a few days there, but the absolute worst part for us was when we went to leave the city to get on the main highway back.to Germany, the darn signs kept directing us back to the city. The signs were lying to us. It took 3 tries before we eventually got out. We swore we'd never go back. There were alot of roadside begging and cheaters, so be careful. It made it hard to enjoy yourself there.

The cheapest beer in Germany costs €0.25 for a 500ml can and the beer is even from a good manufacturer ^^ so you get 2 liters of BEER for 1€ ! So it's actually cheaper than water in Germany^^ The brand is "0.5 Original" ^^

@@Pidalin well they're getting there.. I collect my bags so haven't bought one in 5-6 years. I got a drawer full of them.. So they do go up a lot. So maybe covid did that to bags here too idk? But plastic had been phased out the last 4 years or so. Some use these high end fiber ones now. Biodegradable stuff. So they are like 2 dollars in some shops.

Jeeez, I laughed so hard I almost cried. Of course, it is exaggerated, but it has merits. It is a beer bath, one of the weird things tourists believe the Czechs to do daily, since yes, beer is cheaper than water. Also, non-alco beer really became a thing since the past 5 years and nobody bats an eyelash at you. But so worth the joke 😂.
