Short explanation of the emergency lights: Amber - used mostly on stationary vehicles, using it allows you to park everywhere without complying to parking rules. Also used on out-of-size transports. Blue - privilaged emergency vehicle, you have to give way and it does not need to adhere to traffic rules Blue + red - head/tail of a convoy, if you have one car running blue+red, then the car behind it is priviledged. If you have two cars running red+blue, then all cars between them are priviledged (even if they have no lights). You also cannot split a convoy (ie. drive in between convoy cars).

There is also a mix like P/S where equipment is specialised but doesn't necessarily have a doctor, and T-Transportowa which usually transports patient from one place to the other when there is no need for other equipment. edit: For prisoner transport you would rarely see police cars or vans most of the transport is done using Służba Więzienna cars

You're right about police car liveries, silver/blue is older one, silver/blue/highlighter green is a new livery introduced this year I think. And yes, in europe pharmacies have green cross outside, I think all countries follow this 'rule'. The amount of flags is due to this being filmed during polish independence day, and police vans are used either to transport police to event sites, or to collect unruly citizens.
@Pidalin Жыл бұрын
We have several different designs for police cars here in Czechia, the oldest one with green line already disapeared, then you have older version of universal european color scheme with blue/orange and now you have cars with the newest european style - blue/yellow and it's more reflective. Then you have several types of police lights, we are switching to US-like style with red/blue (it was only blue before) and they are also installing new bumbers on some new police cars, so it's total police car freestyle here. 😀 And then you have city police, which can look totaly different in each city.

In Poland basically they make a tender each time they buy new vechicles. They put out specs they would need, and companies bid for contracts. Each time separately - it's not a large multi-year contract, it's just the new one each time. And often - these are not large contracts. It's not uncommon to buy... 2-4 vechicles as separate contract. So it's always something in always something out, brands appear and disappear. There are companies specifically adapting normal civilian vechciles to police use, they get a new stock vechcile from market and do the paintjob/modification as required. You could say that Poland has a lot of experiance using very diverse fleet of vechicles in public services. An it applies to everything from quads to tanks, with all manner of bikes, cars and trucks in between. It's mainly because a lot of these come from short term planning - i.e. asking what is needed tomorrow, not how it fits into some broader vision like in US. It has pros and cons - one of disadvantages is that economies of scale in maintenance are not there, and it costs more to maintain - but makes it easier and more organic to change to another platform when needed, so paradoxically - it becomes cheaper to buy a new platform than to maintain stuff on extended timeline. Basically for stuff that comes modified from civilian market - the moment given model is out of production it starts to be slowly phased out in service as well.

The Mercedes at the end is the original A-class. It was developed around the time Mercedes took on smart to bring that to the market. It famously failed the "elk test", and Mercedes did the right thing and gave it ESP. The A-class that way brought ESP to the masses (previously, it was a feature reserved for the S-class). I had one at some point (and its successor, too). While it looks dorky, it's a highly practical concept, as it really, truly gives you the internal room of a larger car in short length. Much more practical than hatchbacks of similar length, but of course its look did not attract the young buyers Mercedes wanted to get into Mercs, so at some point, the A-class was completely revamped into a normal hatchback.

A few observations. Kias and Hyundais are most common police patrol cars. The standard livery is silver and blue but this year a new liver silver, blue and highlighter yellow is being applied. The police vans are used by prevention police and riot police. For example they're used as mobile police points - you can park it in a busy pedestrian spot and have a small "base" for half a dozen cops. Now the main thing - the blue and red lights. In Poland a priority vehicle flashes blue (and blue only lights). Cops, firemen, ambulance - if they're rushing they will have the blue lights and sirens going. If it's a priority motorcade - let's say five cop cars rushing to a major incident - all vehicles in it will flash blue while the first car and the last car in said motorcade will additionally flash red lights. The red light, together with blue lights, signals (only) the beginning and end of a priority motorcade. The flags are due to Polish independence day on 11 November.

Hello, I'll speak for France, but I guess it's the same rule in most European countries: institutions generaly prefer local constructors, so from one country to another, you may see very different vehicles. Thus, unlike US, the police cars are almost always series vehicles with only a few specific options, not model deeply adapted to the police needs. As a result, almost every years new cars would be different models according the market prices, they are not limited to a few models specificaly designed for police.

In Europe you first have no "only-made-for" police vehicles, and you will buy "standard" vehicles and modify them (some manufacturer even offer modifications for police forces. Depending on the country, you have different manufacturer, and I don't know a polish manufacturer. So they will buy those that suits them, like the gib Mercedes or VW vans or the smaler ones depending in the purpose. And manufacturer often offer a good deal, if the city, country buys some hundreds. In Europe, as it is usual you have smaller cars and often like a station wagon to get all the needed stuff in the back. Depending on the federal state in Germany you would see BMW in Bavaria, Mercedes in Baden-Würtemberg or VW in Lower-Saxony, as these manufacturer have their plants in those states. And as BMW doesn't have van, for that purpose, they would also take Mercedes, VW or Opel. As a plant of Ford is in Northrhine-Westfalia, they used a lot of Ford here, but never a Pick Up.

The police have blue reflective stickers on their cars (the secondary color is yellow, or orange, or red), the emergency services have yellow or white.

You see lots of people with flags, becouse it`s video from 11th od Novenber - Polish Independence Day. This day in Warsaw is great Independence March. All this services and cars are there to secure this event. Only blue lights - ordinary emergency vehicle, in Poland emergancy vehicles (Police, Fire Dept, Ambulances) use mostly blue lights only. Blue + red lights - this one can be only Police or Military Police car capable to be a leader of column of the emergency vehicles. 4:11 is a Nissan Patrol. It probably belongs to one of Govrenment Security Agency - they use variety of cars, usually unmarked. If they are highly specialized (Nissan Patrol is and looks like equipped with some extra stuff), they are in use much longer than ordinary service cars. If you see vehicle like in 6:32, marked wth characteristic "368B99" it`s a Fire Department - they have they own, unique style of markings on cars and you can see it mostly on red fire engines, other cars and boats (yes in Poland Fire Department has lots of boats and even amphibious vehicles - they perform all kinds of rescue ans search operations. We have firefighters-divers). This particular is not red, becouse it`s a Rescue Group mobile command center. MAN is a Volksvagen brand. Previous models of commercial light vans, bigger than model VW Transporter - like Volksvagen LT - now are re branded as a MAN. Since April 2022 colours of police service cars is changing from silver and blue to blue, silver and reflective yellow. Polish Police love VAN`s. They are very often used for a usual patrol missions, transport (police officers to secure events etc). Traffic Police haveVAN`s equipped like a campers - they have comfortable office inside, they invite you inside and you get ticket in a very comfortable conditions. 11:40 - it`a Mercedes A-class and yes, it`s bizarre

For special vehicles there is always only a blue flashing light. Red - Blue flashing light is only for vehicles that open and close convoys / columns. It is not allowed to drive a vehicle with red or blue flashing lights once - this applies throughout Europe. Vehicle painting - silver metallic with blue lettering and signs is also a European Union requirement for all European countries. But it was bought with the old paintwork and can still be driven when the old vehicle is still in service. You can see this very well in Germany, for example, where new vehicles are silver with blue - but old vehicles still have green and white paintwork, but there are very few vehicles with old paintwork.

Regarding emergency lights - according to Polish Highway Code red and blue lights are displayed only on the first and the last vehicle of the motorcade, all the other emergency vehicles in the motorcade as well as single vehicles responding to emergency calls show just the blue lights.

If you are interested: we have a vehicle that sends blue and red light and sound signals.... it leads or closes a convoy or convoys of vehicles.... this absolutely cannot be ignored in Poland! drivers of these vehicles are instructed to drive aggressively, preventing another vehicle from getting in front of the convoy or preventing the convoy from being cut. the punishment for something like this is very severe.......(if you don't get a cool guy)....... this function is performed by ambulances (they are equipped with additional red strobes that are not used on a daily basis), police, military police, sappers' patrols, etc.

You'll see a lot of police vans in Europe. Often driving in convoys. They usually transport groups of officers to secure certain large events. So when you see a convoy of a dozen or more police vans going somewhere, it's most often to football matches, but also of course parades, rallies, protests etc. The MAN TGE (Van) is afaik essentially a rebranded VW Crafter, since MAN is part of Volkswagen Group.
@vophatechnicus Жыл бұрын
The MAN TGE ist not just essentially a rebranded VW Crafter, it totally is a Crafter. And it makes totally sense they use Crafter and TGE in poland since they are both manufactured in poland (Września).

If you look at single expression vehicles in the different countries, you can see that some countries have very many similar cars, this is because for a period they have bought those cars by agreement with the factory, and then you see some have large variations of cars, Ambulances, for example, where there are a number of privately owned companies that sell their services to the State, which means that you get a large variety of brands on the ambulances. You can also see variations from traffic police to criminal service cars, where you find big differences in the different countries in Europe. If you look at Swedish police cars, for example, it is not so strange that Volvo is by far the most used, although you may occasionally see a BMW or Mercedes among them, and of course the fire service uses Scania and Volvo almost constantly. In Norway, where I live, there are also many Scanias and Volvo trucks in the Fire Service, but due to the topography in the country, we also depend on 4x4, 4x6 and even 6x8. As for ambulances in Norway, they are very often 4x4 for exactly the same reason, the topography, and most are VW, Mercedes or Volvo, the newest addition is the VW Amarock 4x4. Funny if you took a look at what emergency vehicles are available in this country too.

The wagons (Hyundai, Kia) are used by the routine patrols. The vans are used in pedestrian areas, events, etc. Good for police squad, good for transportation of detained "bodies".
