My friends moved to Tassie from Sydney, initially to attend University but then decided to stay because they loved it. They’re not “stuck there”, no one in Tassie is stuck there, they live there because they prefer the lifestyle, the climate, the fresh produce and they have everything they need including two major cities in the capital, Hobart, and the city of Launceston. “The two major Tassie cities, Hobart and Launceston, have direct flights from Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane. You can also travel by sea using the car ferry, Spirit of Tasmania, which crosses between mainland Australia (from Geelong) to the Tasmanian city of Devonport (near Launceston) daily.” Definitely not stuck there! My friend can get a return flight to Sydney from Launceston for around AUD$132! It’s also attractive to Aussie tourists for many reasons! Check out Tourism in Tasmania and see for yourself!

I came to Tasmania 26 years ago with my family after having immigrated from overseas. It was hard at first. It was incredibly backwards in the still largely pre-internet times. Those times have changed now that you can buy and have everything delivered to your door from anywhere in the world. The trick is to either have a decent job or run your own business like I have. Once you have a stable income it's a great place to be. The cleanest air, the cleanest food and you can live a genuine quiet semi-rural lifestyle whilst being only 20-30 minutes drive from the middle of Hobart outside of the peak couple of hours. It's super safe too. I live in a satellite suburb of Hobart but can get away with not locking doors, windows , not locking cars and just leaving equipment out in the yard. Not normal practice for us but occasionally we realise we didn't lock the second car up for a week and nobody tried anything. Found the window in the guest bedroom was left unsecured for like a year but again, nobody tried anything. There have been a flood of mainlanders moving here the last couple of years looking to escape the hustle and bustle of the big cities where commute times become a living nightmare. The landscape is breath taking and so much empty space means you can go camping in some places an hours drive away and never have to see another human. I love it to bits now and would not trade it for any other place in the world.

I moved to Tasmania nearly 17 years ago, and have not regretted one moment. I escaped here to get away from the heat in Perth, Western Australia, and although I live in a small village I meet so many people who have moved here from either Queensland or Western Australia. I have noticed that there are a few more who recently moved to Tassie from N.S.W. They too, move here to escape the heat.

Another geographical beauty about Tasmania is that it often tends to experience the Aurora Astralis (southern lights), would love to see that. Saves a trip to Norway or thereabouts. Tasmania is worth the visit if you make the trip to Australia. If anything, mainly for the food - the island has amazing conditions for farming that allow the agriculture industry to grow very high quality produce. The soil is very fertile, low pollution levels, really high air quality and adequate rain/sun cycles throughout the year. Not to mention the seafood that they have access to - book a food tour of Tasmania if you make the trip.

We can get to Minus 7-8 due to big frosts for a little while in the morning and be at 15-16 C by mid afternoon.. Summers are in nthe mid twenties like 24-28 C with a few days well over 30 C or even up to 40 C on rare occasions...It's beautifully warm and rarely oppressively hot... I should know , I live here.

Sorry, mate, not quite right. The clue is in the phrase - 'oldest CONTINUOUS culture'. @Guvament_bs3 ай бұрын
@BradBrittain-u2q Sorry mate it is true. Originally it was oldest culture. Then oldest continuous culture and more lately the oldest civilisation. Originally the oldest culture was a polite way of saying least technologically advanced. ie no pottery, no wheel, no writing, no metal not even gold, no real agriculture, no permanent settlements or stone structures, no beasts of burden or animal domestication. Essentially it was the closest to a Palaeolithic or mesolithic lifestyle. That does not mean these people were any less intelligent. It was a product mainly of a harsh continent and little contact with other cultures. Thems just the facts.

This is certainly out of date, so many people are moving there they need to urgently build more houses! The summer is hot, the winter has morning frost but it's still far warmer than many countries! A lot of people live there off grid and stay there annually too for the peace, fresh air and food, the environment is strongly protected! The natives were displaced here by the loss of a landbridge from PNG, but the Tasmanians are different DNA to mainland Australians - they do still exist, but they were extremely brutal people! Initially, the convicts lived chained in tents amongst those harsh Western rocks cutting timber for England! Convicts built the still existing infrastructure and first farms, dating from before 75% of Australia was discovered! Most Tasmanians are self employed or work in arts, education, farming, environmental care, technology or tourism but you can obviously work globally from there! The weather is actually warmer than Canberra and drier than Sydney! The wind ends at the Western mountains, and it's definitely mainly liveable, Perth is harsh and windy too! Hobart is beautiful, friendly and affordable! 🙋 Mona Art Museum, Queen Mary of Denmark, 7-mile beach, Antarctic exploration, nature, gourmet food! 🤔

The western side of Tasmania has very low population. The landscape is very extreme with many mining towns that have closed. Hobart, the capital is in a bay, protecting it from harsh weather. The second city in Tasmania experiences the same. The southern part of Tasmania (further south than Tasmania) has many people living off the grid. Tasmania’s winters are very harsh compared to the mainland. And like I mentioned previously even though Tasmania is exceptionally beautiful it has too much light hours in a day in summer and very few light hours in the winter. This is challenging if you have moved from the mainland with sleep cycles. Everything is very expensive in comparison to the mainland. Tourism, logging, agriculture are big industries. Anyone else needs to have a profession where work is easily accessible like nursing, teaching or hospitality etc. Also housing can become costly if purchasing an older house as the preservation of building of a certain time period need to be kept. Newer housing not so much. It truely is a magnificent place, but the cold winters and now the current cost of pressures impact people moving there. But seriously the produce grown in Tasmania is delicious.

LOT OF TRUTH MISSED OUT THERE. WOULDN'T WANT IT TO GET OUT. ...Truganini (c.1812 - 8 May 1876), also known as Lalla Rookh and Lydgugee, was a woman famous for being widely described as the last Aboriginal Tasmanian to survive British colonisation AND SHE WAS "DEPORTED"..... MASS EXTERMINATION. VERY COLD WET. DENSE FORRESTS.

Tasmania still has aranged marrages. You can only married to your sister or your mother, just like Tennessee in the USA. What happened to the first nation people in Tasmania is NOT like what happened in the USA. Australia has the total shame of total genocide. Tasmania did have Tigers, the last one died in 1932. Tasmania had a mass shooting in 1996 not in a school, unlike the USA who has a mass school shooting every 3 days. That is 4 reasons not to live in Tasmania.

You really wasted your comment here! Actually Tasmanians are well educated, articulate and cultured! They certainly know how to spell and create coherent sentences! 🥱 How is this at all about Tasmania? No, arranged marriages! Genocide? How do natives still exist?

another often overlooked reason the poms colonised aus, you yanks kicked the poms out... some revolutionary war or some such, and britain had no where left to send convicts, as murica was where they were sent before said war.
