I have spent a bit of time on Bruny Island. The locals say 'we are on an island off an island off an island.' A few years ago the pub at Lunawanna claimed it was the southern most pub in Australia. The pub at Snug on the mainland disagreed. So they decided to settle it in a very Australian way; a game of cricket. The issue was never resolved as the game was abandoned when the players became too drunk to continue. Everyone adjourned to the bar to continue the argument. One would have thought that a simple check on the map would sort this out but nah, this is Tasmania.

The 'Dark times' referred to is the convict jails and ruins in Port Arthur, Tasmania it demonstrates the revolting manner in which the convicts were incarcerated. I'm from South Australia and visited Tassie a few times over the years. There is nothing wrong with it at all. It has a beautiful scenic panorama and a lot of Aussie history down there. Hobart is the main city which is situated at the southern end of Tasmania. Famous names like Queen Mary from Denmark and Errol Flynn who played Robin Hood in Hollywood in the 1930s - well they hailed from there. It's got an English feel to it - like British feel. It's a cold place and that would be the reason some Aussies don't like it. But from my perspective, I loved travelling around there.

Tasmania is a great place full of natural wonders, ancient forests, the cleanest air in the world, great food and wine and friendly people. It has a dark history mainly due to the harsh Port Arthur convict settlement. Most of tasmanias towns were built with convict labour. Port Arthur is also the site of a massacre that happened on April 26 1998 where a lone gunman killed 35 people. This is the reason for Australia's current strict guns laws.

Not quiet but a great beaches. But in all my 6+ decades on this planet, ive never been to Bondi beach. And.... i used to work in walking distance of Bondi! I don't know what to think about the girl who mentioned Bondi in comparison to Tassie beaches.

I like to think of it as like a big brother/little brother relationship, the big brother will rip on his little brother from time to time but at the end of the day we're part of the same family, love each other and we'll defend our little brother to the death.

We are from South Australia and have lived in Tasmania for 17 years. Paradise on earth where we live. 2 acres of land, creek 5 minutes down the road, river 20 minutes further on, and Bass Strait another 20 minutes. Mountains an hour from us. What's not to love. Not overcrowded either. As a joke the mainland can be referred to as the Big Island. Be jealous people!❤🇦🇺
