In the south, southwest and southeast of the USA people are multilingual and fun and affectionate: they speak Bye Yall, Love Yall, Hello/Hi Yall. It's 😋 nice to hear. For tennis, you will find the expressions runners, joggers, sneakers, older people say sport shoes or gym shoes. For soft drinks coca cola is Coke ever, other soft drinks popsoda. When you want lemon soda you say lemon popsoda or Sprite and people understand it well. 💚💚💚💚💚💚

Sneaker / Boston/ 65 And yes, frequently tested by people in other cities, made to recite "Park your car in Harvard Yard." No accent noticed by 99.8% of people. One person thought I sounded like I was from New England. I have misplaced many of my regionalisms - sadly - somewhat because I once spent half an hour looking for my pocketbook after asking someone from Philly if they had seen it and they certainly had but they didn't know what a pocketbook was. This was a problem. Of all the things you would wish to Not lose that would be high on the list. Pocketbook, not The word for it. Is it the internet's fault? Yes. There wasn't a lot of chance that I was going to move to Virginia or Florida if I could help it, but hanging out with people from other states online? And eventually in person? I would say that most of it has been because of the internet. Before that it was church events. I didn't have to go to Arizona or California or Colorado - I wanted to. If I had not been in the church I wouldn't have had as much opportunity. Later on, that was because of the internet. Sadly, even most people in Massachusetts don't call gingerale tonic anymore. But it is annoying to have to say dresser because somebody doesn't know what a bureau is.

Tennis shoe or sneaker. I'm 32 and originally lived in the Mid-Atlantic/Northeast region where my dad was born and raised, but my mother was from the Midwest, and we all moved to the South and ended up settling in an area with a bunch of transplants like ourselves. I've honestly developed more of my language habits from online communities and media since there isn't a distinct one where I live.
