as a non muslim in brunei, the news definitely distorted the image. yes there is sharia laws and non-islamic faiths can't really be granted complete freedom of practice, but no one has been really persecuted by such laws. the locals are nice and the country is peaceful. it may seem authoritarian and extremist from the news, but in reality it is far from that. the non muslims are not mistreated, we just gotta respect brunei is an Islamic country and follow the sharia law. most people are super chill and accepting and friendly

Only Bruneians and those who ever lived in brunei knows what a wonderful country it is. Anything else potrayed by the media is misleading. @@SilverfoxJB unemployment is still not a big issue here compare to our neighbouring countries, their younguns have to leave their country just to get a job, while we stay here in our comfort bubble waiting for high paid job. just because these young guys are fresh out of universities doesnt mean they 'dont need to work hard' on their first step into the real world. When i first graduated from uni back in 2013 i did many kind of "foreigner's work" (fisherman, catering worker, waiter etc) and now at the company i work with, young peeps come and go for whatever reasons not even for a few months. It's kinda tiring that i have to train everyone from zero only for them to leave in a month or two.🤷‍♂
@SilverfoxJB
@SilverfoxJB 4 жыл бұрын
@@Adiarby13 Why do they leave? And why do they have 'zero' skills?
@AliffDelacoure
@AliffDelacoure 4 жыл бұрын
@@SilverfoxJB they leave the low-paying jobs to look for better-paying jobs. The 'zero skills' she mentioned refer to the knowledge they need to do those jobs, like training on how to be a proper Starbucks barista, or a McDonald's employee. Those jobs need proper training from a supervisor, and she's saying she's tired of having to keep training new workers as they come and go. The Bruneians definitely have skills, hence why they are leaving to secure better jobs which utilise their skills more. So you ought to stop your nitpicking and start accepting the fact that any problems in Brunei aren't as bad as they are in other countries. The thing is since Brunei have very few problems, the media tends to exaggerate every single thing, and nitpick everything to find faults, then blow them out of proportions. Stop that :)

Brunei... Peaceful and lovely country. Bruneian is friendly and helpful. Traffic also not busiest compare to my country, Malaysia. When I first time went and arrive there alone in November 2019, stay for 2 days; people from Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque help me a lot, they guide tour around Bandar Seri Begawan, Kampung Ayer, and Gadong Night Market. Thanks Haley for your review and video.

Hayley definitely fit this type of content.. the traveling and trying the culture and food. She is open to try everything from unique foods, not so touristy areas and diving deep to the culture of each country she visits and for me thats the whole reason i watch travel blogs i wanna see what really is the country about. city/fancy life we can get to see that in most countries and tbh its not that appealing especially for adventure type travellers like me

Hi @haleydasovich so glad you're having fun during your stay here, don't always believe what's in the news, I'm a Filipino working here in Brunei & I feel in love the country more than a decade. I wish to even stay here for the rest of my life hahah. BTW, You didn't go to Empire Hotel. Your next journey as you really like extreme climbing and fun I suggest you climb Kawah Ijen and Mount Bromo in East Java Indonesia, standing in the crater is one of the craziest thing I ever did.

I’m excited on how you are going to ask those difficult questions about brunei especially for the lgbt community and how they are going to react/respond. I wish you could have tried more food that brunei has to offer.
