We were in the same boat. I listened to the promise of a dying man, out new landlord raised our rent by $600, gave us a 3 day pay or vacate so we went and applied for a loan for a travel trailer. Spent all memorial day weekend. Picked up our travel trailer last week. And surprisingly with my credit as poor as it is I'm on the loan as well as my wife! Best decision we've made!

There’s still plenty of affordable houses in America. Sometimes you can’t live exactly where you want. I’ve bought multiple houses during the pandemic in Oklahoma for under 100K. I actually bought one for $17K and another for 20K. They’re actually in pretty good neighborhoods but they require a little work. Unfortunately Americans don’t want to work! I’ve tried paying $25/hr to get DOCUMENTED Americans to help with these remodels and it’s almost impossible. The problem isn’t pricing, the problem is lazy m’fers! I’m sick of people blaming the government for their own laziness and lack of motivation.

Not everyone looks at this situation the way this man does! But he and his wife can make it through by having the "this is temporary" attitude. More power to him, and I was shocked at $1000 a month even with utilities furnished! Not for me. I am 74 years old, but spent 10 years in my 20s, early 30s, building my own house. Did it much like he wants to...rented, then rented very near the property we bought. Pd off a 5 year note in 3.5 years, then started building, acting as the general contractor, got moved into the basement with the house roof installed (in the dry) after 6 months, then 9.5 years to get the rest done. Been in the home now for 35-40 years and since we built it the way we wanted it, my wife has not insisted on any major remodel jobs. When we get to old to fool with it, my son will get it and we will move into assisted living somewhere in the area. But I am not ready for that for several more years, heck I still ride a motor scooter all over the area! HA HA

We retired and sold the house for a ridicules amount and sold almost everything (no storage unit) and bought a 25 year old motorhome for 11K. Spent another 3K upgrading some things and moved to the mountains of Arizona in an RV park. Our monthly expenses including electric and propane (winters here get down to about -10) it comes to approx. $550/month. We don't owe a dime to anyone and have enough money to travel and stay in hotels so the motorhome stays put. We have no plans to return to a house.

I almost cried just thinking about the people who are being forced to live in travel vehicles. This is supposed to be the greatest country on earth, yet people are being forced to live in homes on wheels. Today, I paid $3.84 for gas in Florence. I’m sure they are selling the same summer blend as the vultures around here, but they are charging a less expensive price. I spent the weekend in Sierra Vista and was in awe at the gas prices in Cochise County. Again, I’m sure they are also selling summer blend gas. Maricopa County is expensive for no apparent reason. I am seriously considering leaving after being here for less than four years. Luckily, I have a state job, so I can transfer to another region.

If you would like solid examples I have several for you. I mean you no disrespect but your post is super naive. I ended up living in a camper BUT for me it was a happy thing. I love living this way and it allows me to do more with less. Family, geography, nationality can all box you into a corner leaving no choices at all. "It's called the American dream because you have to be asleep to believe it" - George Carlin. Working class life in the USA has been going downhill since Ronald Reagan sold us out to corporate America with his trickle down economics scam. Sadly our best days are behind us and it was never that great to begin with. I'm hoping I can make it in my current job until retirement and then I plan to sell my house, which is worth half what I paid for it thanks to all the good jobs leaving. At that point I will either buy a camper van and travel full time or maybe just move out of the country to someplace better and cheaper, and there are plenty of great destinations to consider. In the USA our leaders have allowed greedy corporations to utterly destroy what could have been an amazing country.

This is true. 5 acres of sagebrush and coyote shit should be dirt cheap, not 40k. Your buying the dream, and likely you're buying someone else's dead dream. There are restrictions in these subdivided acreages. You cannot reside there without sanitation, you cannot stary longer than 72 hrs without the sanitation. There will be no water, and likely no electric hookup, a septic will cost 40k. If this dude had the ability to purchase anytime in his 50 + years, he would've. He's blowing smoke up his own bung to make himself feel better. BTW, he says he's a woodworker who used to work out of his garage, where does he rent a workshop now?

Just an FYI, they are all RV’s. It’s just a matter of what type and class. There are class A’s which he has, B’s are things like vans and C’s are a slightly smaller version of an “A.” There are travel trailers (tow behind), coaches, toy haulers, caravans, 5th wheels and pop-ups, canpervans and all those little tear drop type trailers. But every one is considered an RV (recreational vehicle). We lived in an RV park for almost 3 years in AL. The last rent receipt I had was for $402. That included my bill for using the washer and dryer. The cost differed month to month because of that but our base fee was $350/mo.

@THE ORACLE He’s not smart. What bank is going to loan him the money to buy 5 acres when all he owns is an $8500 depreciating asset? That’s the problem with buying an RV as your home, you have zero equity. And if he could afford 5 acres he wouldn’t be paying $1000/month in lot rent. If he did get 5 acres he’d still need power and water on the site. What about PROPERTY TAXES!? Who’s going to pay the property tax on 5 acres of land? That’s got to be paid every year! He’s not going to be “living large” because RV’s are poorly built and that POS he’s living in will completely fall apart in the next few years and then he’ll need to look for another one. True, he did say it's because of the highway right next to the RV park so I guess you are paying for the location and in real estate it's all about the location. I personally wouldn't want to stay there for that price you definitely can find way way better for 1k a month even with all utilites.

Problem is, many many RV parks have a ton of restrictions. Age of RV being a major one. Throw in the fact that many have dog breed exclusions and most have time limits and you are right back to boondocking and roving homeless encampments . not to mention that RVS are not built for full time living. I speak from experience of having spent 2 years full time in a luxurious toy hauler. As beautiful as it was, it still had ZERO insulation and was an icebox in the winter and a sauna in the summer. Add to that a kitchen that is small for a house but big for an RV, and very little storage and you will find that RV living is NOT for most people. Especially long term. Not to mention that the outside of your rig is not truly meant to be exposed to the sun 24 hours. They need covering and many parks will not allow that as it can look trashy. But exposed rigs will fade quickly, and cracks will emerge. These contribute to water leaks. And if you know anything about RVS is that water leaks are fatal. But is it better than a tent on the streets? Of course. Is it a long term solution for most? Most definately not.

I have a 24 year old son that has a full time job and still can’t afford to rent, so I took savings and bought him a new RV and put it right beside our house! This is a starter home for him, he’s single and loves it! He also saves money, he hooked up his electricity to ours and pays his part each month, uses a space heater to save on propane gas! He has cable from us and Netflix, no land rent.. but this is better than paying over 1,200.00 a month for a one bedroom apartment, can’t save money and he can’t afford it!

Our water heater runs on both propane and electricity. Having solar really helps. Hubby & I bpondocked throughout the SE Idaho winter. Tons of snow. Thus, we had to get on the roof to clear the solar oanels of snow. Didn't pay a dime, except for propane. We drove to Logan, Utah and stayed in Walmart parking lot for 18 days straight, as I had to get treatments from my spine doctor. I think they just appreciated that I would get out there and shovel snow, and pickup trash throughout the parking lot. 😅

Mr. Big Super Living in Arizona, This gentleman has a nice living situation especially since he has access to showers, restrooms, and hotel amenities! It was ~105 degrees today; so, I know that air conditioner was feeling good! I haven't turned mine on yet. I also like the fact that he has a plan... I think I have been to Peoria before. It's not that far just top of the 101 if I remember correctly. I did hear about a few mobile home parks closing & unfortunately some of the residents can't move their trailers or if they can move it, they don't have any place to move it to; so, they're left in a tough situation because their trailers can't be moved and the mobile home parks are closing for as this gentleman said new development! Oh yeah, I think regular unleaded Gas is between ~$4.90 & ~$5.20 down around where I live. Thank you both. Thanks for the great content.

Yeah, I don't know what the electricity rates are like there. In that climate, during peak summer, I could see the electricity consumption easily being $200+ for that space. $1000 still seems a little high but when the alternative is a tiny apartment for hundreds, if not a thousand, more then it's not so bad.

Yeah, it seems high, but the $1000 per month site rent is almost all inclusive. All utilities (with the exception of personal cell phone), the park's recreational facilities, staff to maintain the grounds, maybe the occasional meal, etc. An apartment complex where units rent for around $1000 per month doesn't include utilities and is highly unlikely to have any recreation amenities.

The electricity & water alone makes it a bargain, plus the security of knowing he won't be forced to move elsewhere in the middle of the night. Where I live along the Eastern Coast in Australia we've been told our electricity costs are going to rise by 25% from this month, when electricity is costing so much already, it makes places like this VERY attractive, especially in the extreme weather seasons/cycles. I'd pay $250 pw, especially when the home he sleeps in belongs to him, it's not a rental he can be evicted from. Hello from NSW Australia 🙂
