I love watching your videos and have learned more than I can say from you. I really appreciate all the work you do. I have a video request. Almost every video I see from other channels, and yours somewhat, can be a little discouraging. I get discouraged because I am always constantly catching weeds, getting my lures stuck, mis-casting. Am I really that bad of a fisherman or does this happen to even experts? If I am that bad, I accept that. Sometimes though, I wonder if even experts make mistakes like me.

I've tried this rig using a slider weight instead of a bullet which is pretty much the exact same thing except the slider weight being thinner comes through cover a little better. It's called the mojo rig. I definitely got bites, however, after a while it seemed I wasn't getting as many as with a traditional t-rig and thus I started thinking about exactly what the bait was doing and viewed it in shallow water. When you're moving it your line is tight to the bait (of course) but when you stop moving it the weight stops immediately in its tracks and the bait moves towards the weight creating slack line. The faster or harder you move the rig and the more the bait is floating off bottom the more slackline thus if a fish hits it, you can't detect the bite by feel or line movement. I'm pretty sure this along with the awkward cast are precisely why you never really hear or see anyone using a carolina or similar rig.

I've tried Carolina rigs. Sadly kept breaking on rock and brush and whatever else on the river bed. The next best thing I did was I got a 7 to 12 inch leader with a size 1 baitholder hook. I tied line to leader with the surgeon knot on the leader then put a moderate size split shot. Sometimes a smaller 1 that way its easier to pop free. I caught tons of fish with almost no hardware at all. Just the leader with the hook, the split shot weight and soft plastics with trophy bass by procure and that's it. 👌 😊

Quick question bro. Are creature baits considered finesse rig? I know you've mentioned wacky rig and ned rig but what other lures are considered finesse?
@DanielBoone3376 ай бұрын
I can say without a doubt I've caught more fish on a Carolina rig along with big fish then most other techniques combined. It's the 1st thing I learned to fish on Toledo Bend and been throwing one on every body of water since. I've tried those Carolina keepers and I hate them... Plus if you look at any of the pro to amateur anglers that throw a c-rig on a regular basis I promise you won't ever see them with a Carolina keeper on their line it's just a lazy way out of tying one up.

Carolina keepers came out in the mid 90's. Problem is you can't use a lighter leader line. I disagree about keeping the bait on or near the bottom. I like to have 6 or 7 foot monoleaders and a floating bait to get above the grass. FYI... Fluorocarbon stretches as much as mono or just barley less. Hank Parker has an excellent video on carolina rigs

I always had a problem with a carolina rig, meaning I never understood the difference in technique between fishing with that, and a drop shot. My thinking was they are basically the same thing, just a drop shot soft plastic would take a second longer to fall since the weight is after the hook. Thank you for showing me the correct way to retrieve a carolina rig. I was always pulling up, as opposed to side retrieve, resulting in no fish. Jesus is Lord.
@TylersReelFishing6 ай бұрын
They absolutely are not the same thing, nor do they act the same in the water. A C-Rig goes weight then bait, a drop shot goes bait then weight. Watch my drop shot masterclass to really learn about that one. Very different applications for both

@swamp11386 ай бұрын
Nothing wrong with it. The keeper is just easier because you quickly adjust your leader length. I personally don't use them because I find too much grass starts to push the keeper down towards the hook after a while.
