Hello ASL Heroes!!! If you’ve enjoyed these lessons or videos you are invited to help support ASL University. A donation from you would instantly make a big difference here at the studio because teachers don’t earn much and I could use some help paying for server and domain hosting for the ASL University website: Lifeprint.com. There's an easy way you can help out your humble (as well as kind, caring, generous, compassionate, helpful, friendly, fair, and hard-working) ASL teacher. Just click on the Paypal (donation) link below and you can be an "above and beyond" ASL Hero! www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=64QMBRBXQSV6G Thanks! - Dr. Bill ========================== p.s. Want to have your very own USB drive with four semesters worth of ASL instruction (that’s the equivalent of two years of colleges classes) for just $79.95? See "SuperUSB" in the ASLUniversity bookstore at: lifeprint.com/bookstore/bookstore.htm Take care and my best to you all. :)

What do you all think is the best way to go through these amazing videos? Go through them Letters, Numbers, 1-60 all at once. Or look at video, rewatch it on the same day. Then move on to higher number. 1, 1 (Same day), 2, 2 (Same day), 3, 3, (Same day).... Or choose a staggered approach. 1, 2 (Same day), 1, 3 (Same day), 2, 4 (Same Day)... What's the best way to do this?

Memory extinction (and the avoidance thereof) is going to vary from person to person but since you ask I'll suggest that you simply watch the videos 1 through 60. If the fingerspelling throws you -- watch some of my fingerspelling videos. The first time you go through the 60 videos don't get all hung up on catching every single sign or side conversation (or my various attempts at humor). Just focus on learning the main vocabulary and keeping up with my student models. THEN after you have gone through all 60 videos go back and watch them a second time for review and you'll note that you pick up a lot more of the "side comments." Again though "your" mileage may vary and you might want adopt a different approach that "feels better" to you. Also don't forget that there is a whole website (Lifeprint.com) with lesson-related materials, vocabulary lists, and practice sentences.

if you use a flashcard application like Anki or Memrise, i think that could supplant rewatching the videos (for Anki, there are some publicly shared decks with videos/GIFs; they're alright for reviewing, and you could easily make your own)

first question: could the sign drive (like you used @ 4:10) also include a motorcycle? second question: is there another sign for someone who has a Doctorate but they are not a medical doctor?
@sign-language
@sign-language 2 жыл бұрын
The drive sign for drive (as in drive a car) doesn't work well for motorcycle. Instead mime holding motorcycle handles. For a non-medical doctor -- spell "DR"

@@sign-language so if you are introducing yourself to, say a class, you would sign "MY NAME DR BILL VICARS"
@sign-language
@sign-language 2 жыл бұрын
Casey, That seems a bit stiff but, sure, that phraseology could work. Typically I just point to myself and do my name sign (touch the tip of the index finger of a "V" hand to the dominant temple). I display a slide on the overhead with my English name / credentials. We are dealing here with a situation of diglossia (look it up). If you are introducing a Deaf person to an audience and if that person has a PhD or some other doctorate then sure, go ahead and spell "DR" as part of introducing them. For an introduction of even a medical doctor the spelled DR would work. I INTRODUCE fs-DR JANE SMITH. IX-(she) DOCTOR STUDY fs-PATHOLOGY.

Similar but different. Face has two common versions. Beautiful has a "pretty" version and "beautiful" version. See this page: www.lifeprint.com/asl101/pages-signs/p/pretty.htm Then go here and compare: www.lifeprint.com/asl101/pages-signs/f/face.htm
