So i tightened the bonnet nut down on to the piston and once I started to open , valve, water begins to fill pipe . I push manual valve and water begins to make it past piston in solenoid housing .Bad manual valve ? Not tight enough on bonnet nut ? I checked solenoid and its good , makes a click noise . Help would be appreciated .

Thanks for watching. It is possible that the piston is not seated properly in the valve. It would be worth removing it, checking to see if there is any corrosion or mineral buildup in the valve and threads and reinstalling the piston.

will a malfunctioning piston create water hammer?

Thanks for watching. It is possible though the piston is not as likely as a source of water hammer as compared to a pure solenoid valve like in a washing machine. Solenoid water valves are more instant in how they open and close. (Keep in mind the solenoid used in these flushometers only opens the bypass) You could check the rubber seals to see if they are sticking. In an ideal scenario, the seals should be tight but not sticking or preventing movement.

what would cause the urinals to not flush? the solenoid makes a click sound but does not flush... manual flush works

There is one more thing to consider. A mineral buildup might prevent water from flowing when the solenoid opens. It would be good to open up the valve and try inspecting the piston and solenoid. Make sure that nothing is blocking the path between the two.
