When the snow falls wunderbar and the children happy are, when the Glatteis on the street and we all a Glühwein need, then you know, es ist soweit: she is there, the Weihnachtszeit! Every Parkhaus ist besetzt, weil the people fahren jetzt all to Kaufhof, Mediamarkt; kriegen nearly Herzinfarkt! Shopping hirnverbrannte things, and the Christmasglocke rings. Mother in the kitchen bakes Schoko-, Nuß- and Mandelkeks. Daddy in the Nebenraum schmückt a Riesen-Tannenbaum. He is hanging auf the balls, then he from the Leiter falls. Finally the Kinderlein to the Zimmer kommen rein, and es sings the family schauerlich "Oh, Christmastree". And then jeder in the house is packing die Geschenke aus. Mama finds under the Tanne eine brandnew Teflonpfanne. Papa gets a Schlips and Socken. Everybody does frohlocken. President speaks in TV - all around is Harmonie! Bis mother in the kitchen runs, im Ofen burns the Weihnachtsgans! And so comes the Feuerwehr with Tatü-Tata daher, and they bring a long, long Schlauch and a long, long Leiter auch. And they schreien: "Wasser, marsch!" Weihnachten is now im A. . ..!

Dresden is the german city which is famous for its stollen. Nürnberg for the lebkuchen, Aachen for the Printen and Lübeck for marcipan. By the way, my favourite christmas sweets are homemade vanille kipferl, they are so much better than the ones which are sold an the supermarkets (zimtsterne are also delicious 🙈)

+Wanted Adventure lol, I just saw you bouncing at 6:20 eating one of the Lindor chocolates, with your absolutely sincere delight reflected in your 'mmmmhhhh'. Everyone can see you really love those. Sooo adorable... aaaaww! :-) Yepp, they are great... but, err, trust me, when they were released for the first time somewhere around the mid-90's they were even better. Somehow... fresher, and even creamier on the inside. Not that the current ones are bad, oh no, they are still delicious. If you can, try to go to a Confectionerie somewhere, either in Munich, or wherever you live, and try to find some of the local Pralinen or Trüffel (not the mushroom, the Truffle praliné). If you can find some milk-chocolate truffles you might consider giving up the Lindors... nah, just kidding.

+Wanted Adventure Zitronat and Orangeat is candied lemon and orange peel, it is used in many things you bake at christmas. For example, it is often used in Lebkuchen, but much more finely chopped, so you don't notice it, it only gives flavour. It is also sold around christmas for baking at home. But it is not fruit jelly like in the Dominosteine. I love Niederegger Marzipan, it is sooo much better that all the cheap marzipan that is sold. My favourites, I think, are Vanillekipferl and Zimtsterne. I'd love to see a video about American Christmas sweets also

Here in Hungary we have a specific Christmas sweet called szaloncukor. I can’t translate it, it has no English name, but basically it's usually jelly covered in chocolate and wrapped in shiny paper. But it can be almost everything: coconut, strawberry cream, chocolate cream, maybe some kind of alcohol, nougat. The most common is definitely jelly.

Also I recommend Gewürzspekulatius to you, in my opinion it is way more christmassy than Butterspekulatius which tastes like a normal "Butterkeks". You should taste the Stollen of the "Café Kreutzkamm" in the Maffeistrasse right behind the Rathaus in Munich! It's one of the best in Munich! Btw: In "Stollen" are mostly raisins and candied peel (candied lemon and orange peel), that's the little green and yellow chunks inside! But there is also "Butter-Stollen". Therein are then usually no raisins.

As you mentioned Dresden: THE original Stollen is Dresdner Stollen. And Gewürzspekulatius beat Butterspekulatius hands down. And totally agree on Vanillekipferl having to be home made or at least from a good bakery. An interesting foreign treat I once tried was British Christmas Pudding.

As my parents come from the north of germany, I know some special sweets from there. My favourite candy is "Neujahrskuchen". They are not really for Christmas but New year. They look like the waffels in wich they put the ice cream, but they taste like very sweet normal waffels. In the past children did something like on Halloween nowadays: they went from house to house and shouted: "Glück seins nei joar!" what means something like "Happy and blessed new year!". After that, the people gave them some Neujahrskuchen, and sometimes they were even invited to come inside and drink something warm. Althought this tradition is not practicated anymore many still love to make and eat them together. My grandmother was able to bake Neujahrskuchen with 3 waffle irons at the same time! It was always fascinating to watch her doing it!

You could say there are local/regional specialities, and the famous cross regional specialities. It´s like having american style Pizza, and italian Pizza, or having New Yorker style pizza in Florida. Those cross-regional specialities have often "industrialized" products sold "out of region" wich are in my opinion, often inferior to those made and sold, where they are famous for beeing produced are. In Example: there´s a BIG difference between an "Nuernberger Elisen Lebkuchen", an "Nuernberger Lebkuchen" and a "nach Nuernberger Art" one. The first two are produced in Nuernberg, the latter is not) Elisen Lebkuchen must have at least 25% nuts ( almond, hazelnut, walnut ) and are capped at max 10% flour or 7,5% starch. The bakery made ones often pride themself to be made without flour and starch, and are much richer in taste. Try for yourself, buy Nürnberger Lebkuchen from the store, compare them to Elisen Lebkuchen from Lebkuchen Schmidt www.lebkuchen-schmidt.com ( one of the best industrial ones ), and compare those to bakery made Elisen Lebkuchen from Eckstein www.lebkuchen-eckstein.de Those are just examples, there are certainly bakeries with just as good or better Lebkuchen, but they are often without an online store. Same goes for Dresdner Stollen, Aachner Printen, Baumkuchen and Spekulatius etc. The store bough industrialized stuff is also kind of tasty, but if you ever had the handcrafted goods on your palate, you´d only go for the store bought stuff in an emergency of life and death ;).

I was surprised when you mentioned these vanilla Christmas cookies that you know lemon version of it. As a Czech person the only version of these vanilla cookies (vanilkové rohlíčky in czech) I know is nut flavor (wallnut or hazelnut usually). And Stollen (I don´t know how it´s spelled) we bake as well. It´s called vánočka (Christmas bread cake) but we leave it as it is with no glaze or a frosting on top of it. Great video!
