Far from all football clubs are companies. In countries like Germany, Norway, and Sweden all clubs are owned by the members. Even clubs like Barca and Real Madrid are associations, not companies.

Look at Germany. I am Bayern member and can vote for the new/or old president all 4 years. This is democracy. Football in Germany is different. It's more than Sport. Beginning with the 1954 WC win which gave our people hope after the second World war. After the WC win 1954 we thought finally we can be proud again to be german. And we have the clubs with the biggest members in the World. We have thousands of clubs/associations (not only in football) for the social aspect. In no country is volunteering more important than in Germany. Every Club/association needs, among other things, an unpaid president, treasurer and so on, who are elected by the members. The members also decide whether or not the statutes can be changed. Germany is not necessarily conservative, but in football even more so. Thanks to this we have the best atmosphere and no owners. The owners of the clubs are the members, who are normal fans (exception Leipzig).

That´s the common narrative/myth... BUT actually Johann (Joan) Gamper as football player had no ties to FC Basel because Basel was not in his local Swiss region/Canton because he was from the Zurich region which is located in a different Swiss Canton and he just played for teams located in the Zurich region (= those were "FC Excelsior Turicum" + "FC Zurich" + "FC Winterthur")..and actually there is - and always was - a rivalry between those 2 towns from 2 different Swiss Cantons... The "FC Excelsior Turicum" (which doesn´t exist anymore since 1896 but is the precursor club of FC Zurich founded by the FC Excelsior players in 1896 and Gamper was one of those) was the very first Footballclub were Gamper actually played, even as Team captain and "FC Excelsior´s colours" were Red + Blue as well... It´s way more likely - although against the common narrative/myth - that his - actually former Club which didn´t exist anymore but were Gamper actually played for the very first time - was his inspiration for the colour choice for FC Barcelona out of nostalgia for his very first football club FC Excelsior = "his first love" so to say..

Together with the Swiss Hans Max Gamper, the German Otto Maier, who was Barca's manager, founded FC Barcelona. Both the Swiss Gamper and the German Maier were not only the founders but also the team's best players in the first 10 years. The first goal in an el Clasico was also scored by a German. The German Udo Steinberg, who played for Barca from 1901 to 1910, not only scored the first goal in the history of the Barca v Real duel. The German even scored the first two goals in the historic 3:1 victory against Real. Now I come to the saddest part, which explains the enmity towards Real. The military dictator Miguel Primo de Rivera - a Real Madrid supporter - had Gamper expelled from the country in 1925 on the pretext that he was practicing Catalan nationalism. Barca legend and founder Gamper was hit so hard that he was forcibly separated from his love Barca that he took his own life five years later. A life without Barca was not worth living for Gamper. Franco then became dictator in Madrid and on August 6, 1936, the president of FC Barcelona Josep Sunyol was shot dead by Franco's troops. In 1938, Franco, who was very close to Real, carried out a bomb attack on Barca's club grounds

Hi Luke, you have put out some consistently great content since you started reacting to football. I discovered your channel a few weeks ago it is top notch. May I suggest you react to / watch the EFL playoff games if they are available in the US. I think English football league is far more entertaining and passionate than most of the more mainstream football in England and there are some great stories behind these clubs as you already know Wrexham being one to be in league one next season.

Honestly, I would've gotten a couple wrong if I was just straight up guessing at the unknowns. Sometimes the key is to skip the unknowns, get the ones you know, then it narrows the field to guess the ones you don't know at the end.

You should check out the KZbinr called maqwell he makes videos about football but he doesn’t just make videos about the biggest stories he will do a deep dive into football teams and national teams and he also does predictions for the World Cup euros Asian cup and I think even the gold cup because he is American and he does reviews on them later on as well and I just think he would be able to help you learn about football because even I as someone who has been watching football since I was 8 still learn things from him

​@@albinjohnsson2511I think Jupp Heynckes should get more recognition for what he has done for Real. He won the CL for Real for the first time in 32 years in 1998. That's as long a drought as Red Star Belgrade currently have in the CL. 32 years without a CL title for Real is unthinkable these days. But Heynckes won Real's 7th CL title after 32 years of waiting. In those 32 years before Heynckes arrived, Real played no part in the most important club competition. In fact, from 1966 to 1997 they only reached the CL final once, in 1981, which they lost. In the same period, one of three Dutch clubs reached the final 8 times. 5 different Italian teams reached the final 15 times in those 32 years. In addition, one Greek, one Swedish, one Belgian, one Serbian and twice a Scottish and twice a Romanian team reached the CL final during this period. As well as four different German teams 9 times in the final during this period. 6 different English teams a total of 10 times in the final in that time. 2 Portuguese teams 3 times in the final in that time. 3 times Barca and 1 time Atletico in the final. 2 French teams 3 finals in the time. In 1998, Heynckes brought Real out of obscurity after 32 years in the most important competition.
