As far as I know, we were considered as East European for the longest time and only in these past 10 years you have some people debating that term and not sure why. No one seems to know where to place ex-Yugoslavia lol We're not really considered south like Spain, Greece or Italy, and we're not considered east like Russia or Poland and no one seems to want us to be central European (probably by the Germans no doubt lol).

I don't know if I'd agree that Koliba is the most popular. Sure people like it, but I'd say everyone knows about "Kod Makedonca" in Rumenacka street. People from outside the city even go there to eat burek. It will always be a controversial thing to say that any burek place "is the most popular" though.

Marija is very well informed. Don't listen to those who say chicken burek is not burek, because it is actually authentic Sarajevo-style burek. As you probably already know, she took you to the right location afterwards. The only problem is - Sremski Karlovci was never the capital of Serbia (like she says), it was the capital of the Serb autonomous region within Austria-Hungary in the late 19th century (Belgrade was already the capital of the Kingdom of Serbia while those parts where you are now were still in Austria-Hungary).

It is the only mountain in the world that you can climb in ten minute walk .

That's not a burek xD Those kinds of pastries originate from Bosnia and the one you are eating it's called ''sirnica'' because it's stuffed with cottage cheese...Burek is kind of pastry that's stuffed with meat,onions and spices....

Well, actually there's a difference between pita and burek, although you'll find both in bakeries. Pita is (or at least should be) prepared with the vegetal oil and burek is always prepared with the animal fat. So, you can say that cheese pita or mushroom pita are vegetarian dishes, but cheese burek or mushroom burek are not.

Turski burek se pravi na loju i ako nije vreo loj ti se lepi na nepce a meni se od toga pivraca jer imam utisak kao da jedem pesak! U gibanicu ide sir sa kajmakom + jaja a u burek sa sirom samo sir a praaaavi burek je onaj sa mesom. Bosanci bi ovo nazvali sirnica koja je mnogo neukusnija od gibanice. Nase pekare burek peku na svinjskoj masti i puno je ukusniji i bolji od onih koji ga zbog vere peku na ulju umesto na svom loju a taj na ulju je zbog toga jos i žilav i tesko se žvaće! Porediti burek i gibanicu su dva razlicita sveta...kao kuca i zgrada!
