You rock!! Thank you so much for helping all of understand how things really work on a big rig! For most of us we have never gone through truck driving school or did a job that required us to use one, so what you did is explain a lot of stuff very clearly!

they just released a public beta for ats 1.6, they added a device on the windshield that tells you to pull into the weigh station, they added a differential lock, they improved the air pressure simulation, and they gave us liftable trailer axles

+Ttrucker diesels have not always had direct injection. What about indirect injection where fuel is squirted into pre combustion chambers in the head?? And if you knew anything about diesels you would know there is no throttle body on a diesel...

Nice video. I love big trucks. I have been fascinated with them since I was like 10. I am almost 40 now. ATS is the closest I can get to driving one. Thank you for walking us thru shifting with various transmissions. It makes a lot more since now. I just purchased the SKRS knob and I can't wait to try it out when ever it arrives.

thats what i hate about ats, the torque.. everything else i cand sorta forgive but damn why do i need to shift like im in a mazda miata. i know diesels have low end torque and thats what i love about them.

Thanks for the vid. Watch a lot of trucking vloggers and video makers on KZbin, and have picked up some real life info from them, but good to find reference to the Truck sims. Been in Logistics all my life but never a trucker, so ETS2 and ATS are my driving fix. Thanks again.

same I have done it many times. bloody hard doing those hill starts.i put my park brake on and ease the clutch out till she grabs then floor the accelerater and release the park brake at the same time.

Yeah I kinda figured a big truck like this would pull in low with no accelerator, that is kinda annoying to have to heel toe the brake and accelerator to avoid a stall lol

Nice video, I would also mention ATS doesn't simulate the clutch brake, but that is easily fixed, just adjust your clutch sensitivity so you get a full activation (as far as the game is concerned) with less than a full clutch depress with with game clutch pedal. This was brought to my attention when a friend of mine tried the game who has driven real trucks and was confused that he was unable to shift gears without fully depressing the clutch pedal, which he said you of course would never do shifting gears in a real truck.
I always start off in lo no matter what I'm driving, not only does it save A LOT on the clutch, but it's a lot safer too since you have more control of the load when starting from a dead stop at a light. With barely any "throttle" input (diesels don't have throttle bodies, they can in fact run without an intake manifold) the truck's low end torque pretty much gets the rig rolling, then you can go straight to first, second, third, etc. 18 speeds certainly add a bit more control, but they're so versatile in shifting that you can shift them like a 10 or 13 speed just fine, and only split gears when you need a bit more revs.

Very good video DFO. We'll probably never see the "real deal" in ATS but that's to be expected. SCS needs way more research to get things right. And I don't expect it to happen unless they get a better gamming engine and listen to those that are and were real truckers here in the US.;

I know bigger diesels dont like revs but I've been told 2-stroke detroits love to be reved to the governor, is this true? cause it makes sense since gas 2-strokes are very rev happy but I wasn't sure if the same thing applied to the diesels.

I like your truck engine sounds powerful
@roadyrunner56968 жыл бұрын
In states do you use 12 volt battery system in all truck? That kinda seems strange because in Finland we use 24 volt electrics in all medium and heavy duty trucks. Helps starting up when its -4 to -22 fahrenheit outside and also feeds more power to auxiliary engine heater so no need to keep your truck running when getting some sleep in cab when it's cold outside.
@roadyrunner56967 жыл бұрын
We got that same problem on older truck also... In these days truck system keeps on eye batteries and shuts off aux heater if battery charge drops too low. But aux heater works well over 5 farenheit tempatures and there is also this fact that our cabs are smaller so less heated space :/ That may effect alot :D Thanks to european union... they sure know how to make truckers day even worse
@roadyrunner56967 жыл бұрын
That's just one of those perfect work moments :D And man i'm jealous. Always wanted to at least try one of those 379 peterbilts. Just awesome looking trucks on my opinion but very rare at here cause of length rules :/ In here tractor trailer combination can be 25 meters (82 feet) long, but semi-truck combinations just 16.5 meters (54 feet) long. This just because EU made that to be standard length all around europe, but locally we use longer trucks and heavier trucks here.
@roadyrunner56967 жыл бұрын
Here those conventional trucks are rare these days, but first truck i drove for living was early 90's Sisu 4-axle dump truck... well lets say that only manufacturer here which used fuller transmissions and cat or cummins engines and fun, but also rough ride. Makes cabover trucks these with mercedes engines and mercedes or fuller transmission options. Never tried those newer models :/ So no comments :D These days i drive just year old 3-axle 6x2 chassis Scania R model. 520hp 16-liter V8 with scania own automatic and 4-axle trailer. Job where i pull same trailer all the time. Pretty much different world compared to that old Sisu trucking experience :)
@roadyrunner56967 жыл бұрын
Well this is just my opinion and i don't have nothing bad to say about Scania. Good working workhorse and best truck automatic transmission i have tried yet. It's non synchronized manual transmission equipped with computer control and it also understands up and downhills. So it adjust cruise control speed depending on driving situation. Just relaxing ride :D also fuel economy is good. Beats our Volvo trucks which are equipped with single wheel trailers when ours is equipped with double wheels. But okey there is many euro trucks which i haven't tried so i can not say is it best or not :D Also haven't tried any american trucks so hard to compare driving quality :/ I know my truck with trailer turns a lot smaller space, but on the other hand it can not be so steady at highway speed than your trucks because of the wheelbase. But maybe someday i get chance to try those.... I hope :D

My dad has a 72 International 4200 with a 8v71 Detroit Diesel makes 318 hp with a 13 behind it, and the truck has a 16 yard dump bed on it, it weighs 50,000 to 60,000 pounds loaded so it's not that fast.

@DieselFuelOnly6 жыл бұрын
iiEmiGamerRBLX AsphltXtrme,RBLX,SonicDas, WarThndr Yes. "Automatics" in trucks are usually computer controlled manual transmissions where a computer controls the clutch and shifting. Allison makes true automatics with torque converter a for big trucks. Mostly they are found in dump trucks, concrete trucks, etc. The TC10 is an auto designed for over the road applications, though I don't know if it's actually in production yet.

anyone out there that can help me im trying to be a heavy goods driver in ats + ets2 and i cant figure out whats the best gearbox to go for like is more gears better or worse for a low powered engine btw im talking about 3-400bhp
@clubtcb7 жыл бұрын
More gears = better for small engines. All trucks are limited to the same top speed and most have more or less the same optimal shifting rpm (around1500 rpm). So if you have more gears you are able to use the engines power more efficiently. This will put less strain on the engine when pulling heavy loads wich also results in less fuel consumption and longer engine life

Thank you ill try that
