Hi Jeff. I'm no expert, I've driven commercial vehicles for 8 years now. I've driven everything from an 85 Mack with a dual stick to an 2015 Freightliner (my current truck) I currently run the same trans as the one you're using. The sweet spot for torque on that trans (in real life) bad is between 1,600 to 2,100 rpm. To float gears grind free: Upshifting.. try taking it out of gear at 2,100 rpm then put in next gear at 1,700 rpm. That should help. Just do the opposite for downshifting: Blip throttle at 1,700 rpm to take out of gear then rev to 2,100 to downshift. Don't want to sound like a know it all but hopefully this will work and give you a more realistic experience. Happy trucking!

God... your awareness of this truck is amazing, my uncle drives a Semi and I asked for generic driving tips and he once said. “You have to know where all four corners of your vehicle are at all times.” I love watching Semi’s drive, especially since Lebanon is such a high shipment traffic zone. Watching them come off 5 and then watching them get onto I44 is amazing to me...

I am really enjoying this series. My dad had actually been a truck driver for a while when he lived in NY (before I was born) and he was a part-time truck driver here in Delaware when I was about ten or eleven. I'd only gotten to go with him once or twice, so I don't really remember what it was like. I think that's probably why I find this series so enjoyable, because I get just a little look into what it's like.

Great vids Jeff! All engines shift different, Detroit/CAT/Cummins. We have 579's with ISX's w/ 13spd. and they all shift depending on who broke them in. Generally they shift between 1100-1400rpm. Low range 1100-1200, then progressively higher through the gears, not more than 1400-1450. Up hill, finding the gear that keeps it at 1500rpm is ideal. Keep up the good driving!

The Paccar MX-13 you have in your truck has its peak power at around 1800 RPM. So to get the maximum power you have to rev it up to that. Overreving is simply something you can't do with modern diesel engines with the accelerator alone. If you put a modern truck into neutral and you give it full throttle the engine will rev up to a point that the engineers have designed it to go. You can overrev a modern engine only while going downhill (so pushing the engine further then it would go normally) or if you mishift it (choosing a gear thats to low for the current speed). If you have to go up a steep hill, rev it. If you want to save fuel don't. But you can't overrev it with the accelerator alone. Small addition: When you want to use the maximum potential of your engine brake you have to select a low gear with high RPMs

I drove an 1989 Freightliner FLD 13sp for 6 years. I shifted (floated, seriously, is there any other way) between 17-20K RPM. Honestly, I really didnt look at the tach, even though you drive these trucks by the tach, I listened to the sound of the engine and turbo. It sounds to me like you are lugging the engine. Let it come up a bit, get some of that power band, let 'er eat. When you 'over rev' it sounds just about right, to me. EDIT: I know this is an older video. I just found this channel and just started watching. Better to watch from the beginning. :)

depending on the motor you have, the shift range changes. cats love to lug down a bit lower than most, but for the 600 cat you need to rev over 1700 for the added boost pressure. the ISX motors love to run between 1400 and 1800. a 600 cummins ISX needs to be reved over 1800 to get the added HP over the 550. detroit motors love to rev as well despite what people tell you thats the basics every motor its self is differnt in how they were broke in. so your aware ive been a class 8 oil field diesel mechanic

hey jeff just some info on rpm shifting. i was taught in school 1500 is the max to shift i think other people may of commented on it but i know for sure most newer diesel engines after 1500rpm you lose your tourqe and horsepower. i drive a 2012 freightliner cascadia dd15, but its a game do whatever you feel and keep up the good work.

If it's like Euro Truck 2, each engine has a specific power band(the range of rpm that the engine operates most efficiently) - except that in ETS2, it also showed a low and top end(i.e. 1,150-1500 rpm.) Based on what your spec says, it looks like it's 455hp @ 1,000rpm. Since it doesn't actually say here in ATS, it's probably safe to guess that it's your low end at 1000rpm, and top end is probably around 1300-1400. Basically, revving over that, you are actually losing power/torque. It's still preference though, where you shift. Do your own thing man. Thanks for the videos.

This really varies from company to company, but as long as I picked up and delivered on time, they didn't really care what I did. To: YourTrashMyTreasure _ You asked about using the mouse and keyboard only. As it was suggested, you can if you are used to it. If you are like me and just don't have hundred's of dollars for a G23, G25, G29, etc, I find using a wired Xbox 360 controller with the mouse and keyboard works great. I have all views, speed control, cruise - most everything on the controller. Some say it works with a wireless controller, but I didn't have much luck. I still use the keyboard for "T" unlocking the trailer and "enter" when fueling or otherwise prompted. I could map the rest to the controller if I wanted to remap all of it. It is also harder to fit it all on the controller if you use manual shifting. This is just what works for me - and feels very natural, but it is only another way. I'm not sure there is a "best" way", unless you can afford the "G" series or similar wheel. Ironically, I waited when Euro Truck came out as the wheel, shifter, and pedals were about $200, thinking Amazon would come down in a few months. Last week I checked and they are about $400 and up! If anyone knows of a better price for a wheel and shifter, please let me know. I am disabled so do not need the pedals.. Thanks!

15,000rpm is actually a pretty decent sweet spot for trucks. I have a Cummins engine and it the sweet spot for shifting. honestly it depends on the driver and how well they know there truck. amazing game tho keep up the good work!
@depth46769 жыл бұрын
You're crazy! You'd probably blow the engine at 4k RPM, 15k would be impossible. Even 1500 RPM would be a little high for a truck. You typically don't care worry about RPM, most drivers just use road speed to determine when they shift.
@eddiebauerdtion9 жыл бұрын
+e30rik not at all. I been driving semis 6 years now i know what im talking about. my cruising speed at 65 mph on my 13th gear is around 14,500rpm. remember there able to go highest I seen 30,000rpm but under heavier loads with shorter gear transmission like a 8 speed.
@depth46769 жыл бұрын
Trucks rev a lot slower than cars, maybe you've made it 6 years not knowing that your RPM is measured in 100s not 1000s but I doubt it
