That's awesome to know! I'm still looking to track down my ancestory of that time. I know that I have ancestors at the time, because I have discovered immigration documents from the 1720's. How do you know that you have direct ancestry? Family rumor?

I took a niece to watch a Shakespeare play and, before the play, got to talking with a couple sitting behind us. So I asked “What happened on the Ides of March?” When they said Julius Caesar was assassinated, I said the battle of Gifford courthouse in North Carolina. Of course George Washington’s I have not only grown old but nearly blind in the service of my country speech was also on the Ides of March

Actually, Greene didn't chase Cornwallis, Cornwallis chased Greene. Greene was moving so fast because he knew the area through his militia, James Brown who married Jane Gillespie Brown. Greene knew if he could get Cornwallis out of the area and deplete his supplies Cronwallis would be forced north to resupply. Greene and his scouts got the army across the Deep Dan - by making sure they secured all the boats along it's banks. Cornwallis had to burn most of his supplies to catch up with Greene which left Cornwallis in more desperate state. Once he arrived on the heals of Greene at the Deep Dan, it took him a bit of time to get his army across it. By the time he does, Greene has returned to the other side of the Deep Dan and now, Cornwallis has no other option but to move north - to Yorktown. I'm the great granddaughter of that scout, James Brown. :)

Greetings, the more I study battles, wars and empires I have noticed a trend certain battles seem like a fixed boxing match. Is this something you have noticed too? If so, which battles do you recommend I look into??

…. without baggage, necessaries, or provisions of any sort for officer or soldier , in the most barren inhospitable, unhealthy part of North America , opposed to the most savage, inveterate , perfidious, cruel enemy , with zeal and with bayonets only , it was resolved to follow Greene’s army to the end of the world..

Militia is not a four letter word. Only near the video end were the reliable Patriot Militia briefly mentioned, you remember, those men who single-handily w/o a single Continental Officer or Infantry, defeated not just Ferguson and his Army, but reversed Cornwallis' ambitions to advance north instead returning to South Carolina. Cowpens never would have happened without Kings Mountain, period, hard stop. And who did Daniel Morgan place in his front line to lure the British into the valley of their "double envelopment" demise? Patriot Militia. Greene sought to replicate the double envelopment strategy once again placing Patriot Militia to take first fire. This video get way down into the weeds of details seemingly determined to obscure the reliable, proven, Militia from deserved recognition. What did Sir Henry Clinton, Commander of the British forces in the Colonies, state caused his defeat? "the American victory at King’s Mountain was the first link in a chain of misfortunes that followed each other in regular succession until they ended in the total loss of America." Please, PLEASE...stop lionizing the Continental Army at the expense of deserved Militia recognition...especially Nathanael Greene. What did Greene achieve in the ENTIRE war outside of leading a column at Princeton and Trenton. Hobkirk Hill - Greene defeated. Eutaw Springs - Greene defeated. And what was he doing losing battle after battle n the deep south when he was IN CHARGE of Virginia where something really important happened in October 1781. C'mon, the history is well settled - tell it. Thank God for Lafayette and de Grasse who caught the victory toss spiraled from the Patriot Militia in the South.

Stop calling German Auxiliaries "mercenaries". They didn't sell their services, their individual Prince or King depending upon which country they were from made a contract to the Crown of England for a set amount of troops and of certain types. Hence why they are referred to as "Auxiliaries" troops.
