That look back across the road and field @ 18:14 is terrifying. I can't even begin to imagine how horrifying and empty one must have felt at that point. Taking fire from 3 directions, seeing your fellow soldiers and friends being massacred all around you and then having the strength and fortitude to keep pressing FORWARD knowing full well your are more than likely doomed. Heavy stuff. Thanks for posting this perspective.

6:21 Fascinating. What a privilege to be able to hear historians who have studied the battle, and written books about it, share their thoughts while walking the ground.

Thank you very much for showing this every year. My 2nd great grandfather was there in VA 8th Infantry. He was wounded in his side. Frightening days. History needs to be told.

I walked Pickett’s Charge on Sunday at 9:00am with my son and he kept complaining on how hot it was. Now imagine you’re wearing a wool uniform, no water, tired, no shoes, and not only do you have to watch where your walking, but are being shot at. That’s Pickett’s Charge on July 3rd, 1863. All he said was “damn” Now, you’ve survived the Charge, you have to walk back, over bodies of your friends and oh, yeah you now have PTSD which has not been formally known yet.

Can you do an aftermath, Camp Letterman episode? My Great-uncle was wounded in the Wheat Field with the 5th Michigan. He lost a leg, and died of sepsis on September 5th of 1863.

Adding this which was on a Telegram channel recently: "Here's an idea: don't take your kids to Disney this summer. They don't deserve your money or support (Disney). Take your kids to Jamestown or Valley Forge or Independence Hall or Arlington National cemetery or a Civil War battlefield. Teach them about sacrifice, courage, and the price of freedom. Teach them true history. Teach them to be grateful that they live in America." AMEN! And God bless America.

It’s a serious shame that the field of attack for the Union troops at Fredericksburg has been lost to development. It would be very informative to compare and contrast those actions. What could we learn?

Knowing that Camp Colt was on the Picket's charge battfield, how much of the terrain today is representative of what it was like in 1863?

Thank you for the great videos. On the video a few years ago 'Gettysburg debate, Pickett's charge' Gary says 'a few hundred' Confederates actually reach the wall, which is what I have always understood. Why now are these experts claiming many thousands made it to the wall? Gary if you are out there can you possibly expand on this question? Thanks again

While these guys promote displaying your feelings anyway you want to on a battlefield, Thank God those that operate the Chickamauga battlefield expect visitors to treat the fields reverently and respectfully to all those who gave their lives. Signage there expects as much, and I agree,

I will never understand Pickett’s Charge?? After witnessing what happened to Union soldiers at Fredericksburg, why would General Lee order this charge? I wish someone could explain his logic to me? 🤔

Never understood why Lee didn’t send more men. Boggles me. Had plenty of troops to use. If indeed he wanted it to be “the last day”? Why not send them all? Boggles me.
@chrismiller8046
@chrismiller8046 Ай бұрын
Two reasons in this case. First, Longstreet decided to not send the second wave or reinforce because he saw the slaughter occurring and didn’t believe they would make a difference. Remember, he didn’t believe in this charge to begin with. Second, Lee needed to hold back troops in a reserve in case the Federals counter-attacked. If you send in all your men and lose them, then the enemy attacks, you have no way to defend yourself. So, between Longstreet holding back troops set to go in and Lee keeping a reserve, that’s why he didn’t send in more men.

Since Adam and Eve fell into sin in the garden of Eden. It brought sin into the human race. And the devil and his fallen angels work through people to do evil things in this world. The devil rose up in the Southerners to try and destroy America. So good people had to stand up encourage and fight against them to keep the union together. Unfortunately war is a necessary thing in this fallen world to deal with evil people.
