I have watched at least 5 of these from this last run just released tonight. I think this is my favorite performance, largely because the song is best suited for the performer. This is due to the fact that it isn’t too much out of his range. All of these performances have scary sharp or flat notes. At least with this one, it’s less like over produced, and it is more about the performer. He also seems like someone who is more comfortable with himself and who he is as a performer. Others are close, but he is the closest. They will each likely improve with time, but also, he has a sound, albeit not original, but with more traditional country sound, which is needed more right now in that genre.

That deep baritone has mellowed and aged into something truly smooth and glorious to listen to. It’s always so fun to watch them own the stage when they come back. Shows how much experience it takes out on the road performing night after night year after year to hone that side of the craft. Scotty was definitely one of my all time favourite Idol contestants. That was a great season. So proud of him 😊
