Thanks for having Pep, she's a legend! I like how public television is treated as a joke in the US, yet it brings some of the most insightful content than any other.

I promise there are lots of people in the US who really appreciate PBS and its programs.

@@knightc Sadly, they don't "pony up" to take out a membership, yet a lot of the same people pay big monthly premiums for HBO Max, Disney +, event Netflix. It's been an ongoing problem for PBS. The supported ben "Viewers like you" tag should be "Supported by a few of the viewers like you...sometimes...maybe..I did, but it lapsed...I thought the government paid for that (Hah - Nooo - not much!)

@@ampiersimoni I don't know where you live, Anna Marie, but here in the San Francisco Bay Area, PBS and the NPR radio stations are supported HUGELY by regular people without much money. I belong at the $60 a year membership, because PBS is so very important to me. I use OTA (over-the-air) tv, and am able to pull in 12 different PBS stations, just from the SF Bay Area alone--and there are more I don't get. We are wonderfully spoiled here in the Bay Area. People here, actually put PBS in their wills and trusts. As long as I have my PBS and NPR, I'm a happy camper. I DO realize just how important a window on the world PBS and NPR are. Yes, they DO have the best documentaries in all of tv, the best children's programs, the best news programs, the best arts programs, the best history programs, many of the best music programs, and are the best eyes and ears on the world. The people who treat Public Television as a joke, are desperately trying to get other people to not watch it (for many different reasons).

@@hashachar70 Well, I've lived in NY, CT, IL, GA, both the longest duration in Los Angeles, California. I have worked for the local PBS station, KCET for many years, volunteered and took calls for one of our local NPR stations, KCRW. I also ddi some work with PBS and NPR National and with KQED in the Bay areas. And, I support both KCRW and KPCC. I produced televised Pledge Drives and outreach on-air spots. I worked closely with both our membership and communications departments. Getting memberships was like pulling teeth andante it's not because people Don't appreciate the programing. It's the business model. If you don't pay your electricity, the lights go out. Before the Reagan era, there was much more tax-payer public funding for PBS, NPR, and CPB. That was cut, along=g with the Fairness Doctrine. Memberships ddi not fill in the gap. Mobile and Exxon and other corporations did that, effectively rendering PBS the Petroleum Broadcasting system. That and the proliferation of other choices for documentaries, news and children's' programming via paid cable really helped stifle support and viewership, an increasingly older demographic. Thats' about it. I still watch listen and support.

Thank you for posting this important his- story! Mae West who started off on the Vaudeville stage, was inspired by Julian Eltinge in developing her "Diamond Lil" personna. It's interesting that the photo of the arrest utilized in this clip is from actual police raid of Mae West's stage play, "The Drag."

Children shouldn't be exposed to adult ideas. It removes their innocence and robs them of their childhood.

@@Namesi Well then, heterosexual adults should NEVER hold hands, kiss "good morning" or hello or good night, or talk about taxes, politics, or their jobs, or about their cars breaking down or the illness of a friend, or ANYTHING but... what exactly??? toys, school, pets and the weather??? in front of kids??? @@abelis644 I generally agree - adult problems and behaviors should not be introduced to children. This of course is up to _the parents_ of said children and nobody else. Thinking you have a right to introduce these concepts to _someone else's_ children is _beyond_ entitled.
