The 2018 APA Teachers of Psychology in Secondary Schools video competition was inspired by Dr. Jessica Henderson Daniel’s Citizen Psychologist presidential initiative. High school students were asked to identify a problem facing society and describe how they can use psychological science toward a solution to the problem through community service or volunteering. Four winners were selected by TOPSS. They appear as follows:
(a) Danielle Ji of Pennsylvania Homeschoolers (Kittanning, PA): A Somatic Psychotherapeutic Approach to Child Homelessness - The Effects of Dance/Movement Therapy on Children in Shelters.
(b) Shuyi Jin of The Hill School (Pottstown, PA): School Shootings and Violence - Psychology’s Role in Finding a Solution.
(c) George Main of Cocalico High School (Denver, PA): Construct of Masculinity - The Negative Reciprocations on Men’s Mental Health.
(d) Adren Setian of Denali Peak Correspondence Homeschool Program (Anchorage, AK): Mental Health in Rural Alaska’s Youth.
