Correction: Most people don't have the money. Most people live paycheck to paycheck so if they do get a vacation at all they might only head to the state next to them or maybe Florida or something if they're lucky. Plane tickets are not cheap especially compared to Europe/Asia you guys have some insane deals.

Exactly. We may be one of the richest countries, but we're relatively isolated compared to Europe. We don't have many countries bordering us that we can just safely drive to.

Penultimate goal: Make enough money to be self sufficient for a while (working a job is off the table, so starting a business it is) Buy a camper van. Move to Europe. File the necessary paperwork to become an official citizen in a country. Never return to America and watch it implode. Edit- got a notification for this and couldn't help but notice the reply that said EU people don't like Americans. I don't blame them. Am I going to get biased out of getting a visa because I'm American or are politicians not bribed there?

Which means your tank takes double the money to fill! That’s a huge problem for people who have tight budgets. We are allowed to complain that we live in one of the most rich countries, yet a lot of people are struggling to get by. That SHOULD make Americans mad and they have a right to be mad . The poverty level hasn’t changed in years in America. So basically with price increases, people who were in the verge of poverty before are certainly in poverty now and can’t get government benefits bc it’s set to be for a lower income. There is mostly 2 reasons Americans don’t travel. 1. No paid time off from work and a horrible work culture with low job security, so if you as an American want to travel for more than a week it will cost you tons of money in lost income, and you might be perceived as lazy by your bosses and fired. In Europe 20-30 days of PTO is MANDATORY, while additional unpaid vacation days is nothing strange. 2. How airlines function. In America the aviation market is a lot more regulated and expensive to maintain because everything by law must be done in The US. But in Europe companies like Ryanair and Wizzair can pay 0% tax on jet fuel and company revenue by being stationed in tax havens - while they also can hire Eastern European crews for super cheap. This makes ticket prices ridiculously low (sometimes 5€ for a 2 hour flight and maybe 20€ for a 4 hour flight) and this makes it a lot more affordable for Europeans to travel.

I'm American and i lived for a time in Germany (and several other countries). Our boys had the draft, and my generation married young and were quite fit. Most of us went somewhere, Asia or Europe, at least. Everybody who was stationed on the continent went to the UK, where we saw the Beatles and all the ppl from the British invasion. Americans bought Mary Quant from the source. I've lived many places in the States (as y'all say, ea state is like another country). It's an awesome place. I liked to live in resort areas. Not only were they exciting, but I met ppl from all over the world bc everyone comes to America. Most young Europeans spoke😮 English, so languages weren't a problem (we only knèw English & HS German). We made lots of foreign friends and always had company. We were in Germany when the Russians took over Czechoslovakia, in Wales to see King Charles crowned Prince of Wales, and threw a party in Greece w friends from all over Europe the day the first men landed on the moon. Not bad for working class kids, who never made much money, eh? Enjoy your life no matter how big or little it is and no matter the size of your pocket book. First of all, nearly half of all US citizens have a passport- for a country the size of a continent that’s pretty impressive. I live on the east coast and it would take me 10 hours to just get to Canada, their border countries are sometimes a 20 min car ride away. Second, this stereotype is only ever really perpetuated by people from the EU. What most of those people saying this don’t realize is- traveling state to state is the equivalent or longer than traveling sometimes several countries away for them. It’s funny those are always the people to make the dumb American jokes, but they don’t know basics about geography and if they ever do come to the the US, they’ll be the ones to fly into NY then think they can road trip to Disney World and LA, all in one long weekend.

Public transport is mostly non existent now. There used to be buses and streetcars when there was a downtown where there were companies and jobs.😢 Now there are ubers, in some places, ìf you can afford them. The only thing around where I am ìs a senior share ride. You can go to a medical place or shopping ìf you have some money, and get your reservation in before noon on a day preceding your trip, and if they actually pick you up both ways.🫣 In Orlando there were always terrible newspaper stories of disabled ppl waiting hours for a van or not being picked up at all. Bad service left ppl in some dangerous situations, but, if you could ride a city bus, they were very convenient.

Most Americans don’t know where a nation is on a map due to inadequate education. Mainly due to feds and state governments refusing to fund it. Most US schools are public. And we have begged and demanded that they increase funding. But most states that need more funding are so poor they can’t increase it. So we beg the feds but they always want something in exchange. And the states always have to throw a fit even though they can’t support it.
