Here in the UK we play this in P.E at school, its actually fairly safe when you tackle with the correct form etc. If you want to see something that gives you goosebumps watch the all blacks do their Hakka, its like their traditional war dance before a match to intimidate the opponents

The game has changed a lot over the years. Most (if not all) of the hits in this video are illegal now due to numerous injuries. Now the rules are more strict in order to keep the game safe. The game still has big hit moments but there a lot more technical than the hits in this vid

I also broke my nose, jaw, 6 ribs and my leg,, that's along with being knocked out,, and the concussions.. And that was in my school years.. In my day you left high school at 16 years old.. I think we start playing union or league at a young age and we learn head position in a tackle, what contact we can absorb and the best angles to take down an advancing player. The sport is actually a stamina contest more than a big hits thing. One player in rugby league might do 20 carries of the ball into the opposition and think the record for our league is about 90 tackles in one game. But 60 is normal. You'll run about 12 miles in 1hr 20mins of play with only a half time too. Playing the sport since I was a kid got a few scars etc sure but being desperate for breathe was the most memorable part.

I'm a huge NFL fan since it came on TV in the UK since '83 and I'll argue with my rugby mates how hard the NFL is, but in all honesty rugby is a tougher sport and they don't get to go off the field, that is full-on non-stop apart from 1/2 time for 80 minutes. So they are fitter.

You’ve developed a totally warped picture of what rugby is. How can you condemn rugby as a whole as “barbaric” and “animalistic” when you’ve watched merely a compilation of individual instances/hits and not a whole game...? Learn and understand rugby before you make an *informed* decision on it. As it is, your judgement is *ill-informed*. You’ve watched a compilation of hits from dozens of *different* games and probably over months or years. It’s not a million hits in *one* game. Rugby is not like that all the way through... it’s not the purpose of the sport to intentionally injure people.

I played rugby for 11 years in Swansea, S. Wales, mostly as a young man and I loved every moment of it. Most of the incidents shown in this video are from Rugby league which is different to Rugby union. Rugby is a contact sport and as a school boy you are taught how to ride tackles and most players play the game without experiencing such violence, as to be honest it is counter productive if you tackle an opposition player illegally, you can be sent off from the game and thus put your team mates at a huge disadvantage. Yes, there are hard tackles and all rugby player love to make them but rarely as shown in this video. The whole idea of a good tackle is to try and dislodge the ball from the opposition player and to quickly retrieve the ball and set up an immediate counter attack. Punching and forearm smashes is a big no, no, as it could mean a lengthy ban from the game, sometimes for weeks, which means you are no use to your team, so not a particularly bright thing to do. The game is tough enough without dirty play and played well a joy to watch.

These hits since 2012 are now illegal and if done can cost you several weeks on the side line. Reason being, one of the greatest players to have played this game Greg Inglis put on a shoulder charge so hard that it knocked Dean Young unconscious and was out for several minutes.

The six nations which is the biggest rugby union tournament behind the World Cup just started a few weeks ago. Wales vs France is the best game I’ve ever seen and it happened last Saturday.

Crushers and high tackles are illegal but they tend to be over looked in most scenarios because it’s such a fast paced game. On field fighting is extremely common and usually ends up with being carded and put off field for a certain amount of time.

Most of this is league which I know nothing about. I’ve only ever played union and watched. But I think in league the can contest the ball better in male position maybe compared to ground? I don’t know. What I do know is I’m drunk as fuck and am not fit to be commenting on fu;4ing KZbin hulaaaaaa

There's so much more to rugby than the big hits. There's awareness of the play and your team-mates to permit those fantastic running and passing plays, ball handling skills, kicking skills. For starters.

Rugby is the national sport of Wales, we start playing it in school from the age of 7. We learn it in school and then if you are any good you leave school and start to play for your local village or town and in South and West Wales every village and town has a rugby club. In 2021 Wales are the 6 Nation Champions, in the 6 Nations you have Wales, England, Scotland, Ireland, France and Italy. It's a brutal game but it does turn boys in to men.

That's Rugby League right there . Different form of Rugby compared to Rugby Union . One of the difference is Rugby League has 13 players on each side of the field whereas Rugby Union has 15 players on each side . And also one important thing to note is that Rugby League only has 5 plays which simply means you're only allowed to play the ball only 5 times and hopefully score a try and if not you get to kick the ball on the fifth play or else it will be turned over to the opposing team. And in Rugby Union , you can play the ball for as long as you can and the only way you can lose the ball is if your team is penalised or you lose the ball due to a knock on or a turn over in a form of a ball being stolen by an opposing player.🤙

Unless there is a specific injury, rugby players don't take painkillers after. It's called impact fitness. During the game, the pain system dials down by 75% or more while trained aggression takes over. Also, rugby players are pro-rata to size heavy people, as bones and muscle become extra dense to handle impacts and the stamina test. Again, impact fitness. Lastly, rugby players develop a rapid recovery capability that cures deep bruising etc. The players you are looking at here, assuming that is a Saturday game, would be back in the club for Monday debriefing and light training, and in full training again by Tuesday.

Thing about this sport is that while having players who are the best at something is good, having players who play as a team and keep turning up for their brothers is more important. The game doesn't stop just because the ball hit the ground, or because someone gets hurt. If shit happens you gotta suck it up and keep going so that your brothers will do that for you as well. There is no offensive team, defensive team, and special team, you have to be able to do all three - and do all 3 without the luxury of a 10 minute rest and discussion between every play. There is hardly any downtime. Your offensive team is also your defensive team, and they have 3 to 5 seconds to reset themselves after each play after having retreated 10 metres each time, and then go again. No point having Tom Brady in your side if he cant defend like a linebacker or kick like a punter with no rest between plays and no rest when not in possession. No point having Brian Dawkins in your side if he can't run, catch, juke and dodge like a receiver, back or punt returner while also being able to tackle any back or receiver. Oh yeah - and getting the ball across the plane of the goal isn't good enough, It has to touch the grass in the goal area while you are still controlling the ball.

It’s not unusual in rugby league or rugby union for a players to incur the following, stitches to the face and head, broken noses, jaws, eye sockets, dislocations to fingers, knees and other joints, torn ligaments and more. They have been described as games the closest you can get to going to war without going.
