I would like to know who provided the voice template for the A.I., reading the script. The voice has an English accent...but I can't tell anything more.

Thank You Sir for another fine episode. Last night I was at a dinner party with many friends and former military officers and Staff NCOs. During the meal I brought up your channel and how much I enjoy and have learned from these stories. We discussed this current series. I implored my friends to subscribe and watch so that we may continue the discussion at a later time. Colonel P. gave a fantastic briefing about so many WW2 battles and tactics. As a Graduate of the US War College, 30 years of service, a former Commanding Officer from the Platoon thru Regiment levels, and Combat experience, we all were given first hand knowledge and experience. Your channel has spurred my desire to continue to learn at a deeper level. Thank you Sir. 🙏🙏🙏🙏

Many analysts say that it was a good thing that Adm. Bull Hallsey was in hospital at the time of Midway and not in charge as the senior commander as he probably would have charged forward in a night surface action just as Nagumo was hoping for with the probable result that the Americans would have suffered heavier losses.

My compliments; I've been an avid amateur historian since the 1970s; esp. of the PTO. I've a new appreciation for our then opposition in the WW2 years; now, knowing the 'names' of individuals (pilots; crew; leadership; etc.). It's like the NFL in the U.S.A.; and, the chaos which followed the recent superbowl: everyone roots for their team to win; and, then, they're so disappointed when they lose. Q. Do you think the other team came to lose?

The staggering losses of highly trained Men, aircraft, and ships became insurmountable for the Empire. Within months the US had built hundreds of ships, airplanes and trained millions of men for every branch of service. WW2 has taught the American military that the punch in the nose on day one means little if the current active duty forces can hold the line until the nation is mobilized.

Yes Mike Tyson’s line applies: “Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the face!” Like a punch that leaves a boxer stunned, this battle stunned Japan enough that it allowed the USA to pull it together enough to start fighting back with enough strength to win.

This punch was the almost-TKO. After this battle, there was no longer any chance at all that Japan could win. Those 4 carriers were *that* important.

The commentator certainly was rather unkind to the Japanese commanders actions during the battle. While we Americans can certainly appreciate the criticism of the Japanese leadership it is worth remembering that this criticism is based on knowing the outcome.

To be pedantic, it is a "script writer" not "commentator". An A.I. generated voice is reciting a script. Weird mispronunciations of some words give that away.

After listening to many of these episodes on Midway, Guadalcanal and many other battles, the one overarching characteristic seems to be the Japanese inflexibility, or inability to adapt to actual combat conditions. It is a truism that no battle plan survives conact with the enemy, and the stubbornness with which the Japanese insisted on sticking with the initial plans left them vulnerable to unexpected tactics, in effect they had no plan b

This toss the message in a tube out of the airplane and hope it doesn't bounce off the deck into the ocean sounds less than reliable. If there a picture of these tubes? I'm curious. Did it have an anti-roll feature?

It's been done with other aircraft. There's usually a length of ribbon or cloth attached so people on deck are standing by to grab it. During the final evacuation of Saigon a South Vietnamese soldier with some flying experience loaded his family into a small plane and followed the helicopters out to sea, assuming there was an aircraft carrier at the other end. He buzzed it and tossed a note attached to a pistol and scarf saying women and children aboard. They cleared the landing deck and he managed to get down. Everyone jumped out, plane pushed over into the sea, he and family went to America.
