UK isn't America, and the Irish have been oppressed just like black people, they were slaves for hundreds of years and many signs said "No Dogs, No Blacks, No Irish" this happened both in the UK and in the USA. To think just because someone is white that they have privilege is the mindset that stops the world moving forward, my grandad moved to the UK from Ireland in the late 60s and he was kicked out of most bars, assaulted and racially abused everywhere he went. that isn't privilege. I know the comment was made without the knowledge/background, but even if French wasn't Irish him being white doesn't mean he has privilege, the poor are the poor and the rich are the rich. French is also part traveller and they are still discriminated against in the UK, despite them being white.
