@@tommyhatcher6924 The same criticism thrown at this show could be thrown at the Inbetweeners. Quite easily. What this show does is tackle the classic half hour format of the British sitcom. It’s repetitiveness is part of it’s charm. Of course it’s not Genius in the way Shakespeare or Mozart are genius but for me it verges on the quality of the old classics like Fawlty Towers and Rising Damp but in a modern setting and with modern techniques such as editing, no laughter track or studio audience and a clever use of music in the cuts. It’s a brilliant show , not perfect just brilliant and verges ( as I said) on the genius of previous sitcom classics.

Just to let you guys know, the dog is the actors (Jim's) dog in real life. Another series with some of the same cast (Mark Heap / Jim and the Mum) is Green Wing, its really old but it's brilliant! Well worth a watch!

Just a tip as I noticed you mentioned it before the place is called “Slug & Lettuce” and is actually a bar franchise and not a pub and is usually found in more populated or touristy areas. If you want an authentic pub you would would have to go into more local towns to get something like that

The reason for the pub names being like “The Lions Head” or “The Speared Boar” etc is because the signs could be recogniseable at a time where a lot of people couldn’t read. There were probably a couple called “The Black Boy” 😂

If you want more Mark Heap, who plays Jim, try Jam - Smart Pipes. I've tried to get so many people to react to it. It's very dark but very indicative of British humour around the turn of the millennium. I think that there's a massive vein of untapped comedy which American reactors have missed; shows like Nighty Night, Camping, Jam, Brass Eye, Psychoville, The Day Today.

The weirdest thing I ever found was a 5cent piece in the middle of a field in the middle of nowhere in the English country side .... How it got there has been a life long mystery to me and it's now my lucky coin ...this field was proper in the sticks like no houses for miles and I find foreign currency there 🤷

Not sure if you have tried it but Spaced is a great British comedy series with Simon Pegg, Nick Frost and Mark Heap who plays Jim in Friday night dinner and he's pretty mental in that too his character, it also has Jessica Stevens who played the lead female variant on the other team in Shaun of the dead. It's very funny.

It's a great series. I had a jewish friend at Uni whose family were also secular, but still did the friday night dinner - if he was within ~90mins travel Mark was expected to be there, and I gave him a lift several times. Needless to say I was always welcomed with open arms. This series is soooo close to the real-life north London secular Jewish sensibilities it's unreal!

The father played for instance a coroner in crime series Vera. Tamsin Grieg, the mother, is a very versatile actress, a brilliant comedian but also plays in drama, like period dramas. Good appearance with Graham Norton. The dog owner, Mark Heap I saw first in Spaced with Simon Pegg, where he played a very odd character. But also does more serious stuff.

Used to manage a pub called 'The Newt and Cucumber' in Birmingham UK many moons ago. Never questioned its name as why would I. There is also a 'Black Boy' pub near my village. There is a historical reason for its name (non racial) but cant remember due to frequenting it for years!

Hey guys. May I say, the Queen is Looking beautiful, as always. I love what she's done to her hair. It's clear she's still not back to full health yet and hope she feels better soon, lots of rest for you miss, lol! 😂 As for the £1 she has now, I would suggest keeping it. Due to the sad loss of our Queen, the money will change over to having the Kings head on it so it time, may become worth something. As for this show, it's funny but I don't feel it's as funny as the inbetweeners. There's just something about the whole team that works so well. A great reaction as always.
