The difference between the US and UK fans chants can be summed up like this... USA - Defence clap clap clap... Defence clap clap clap... UK - Right lads, I've just composed a song making reference to the opposition centre forwards recent drink driving conviction and current lack of for... I've set it to the tune Clair de Lune. That's the worst thing about it. If they'd simply adapted the words to make them relevant it would be fine. But they missed the point entirely with the "we're gonna score 3 more than you" Other than 3+ winning margins being rare, the point of the original wasn't about claiming dominant superiority, but saying "yeah, we can scrape through"

think the issue with it is the 3 more than you, it suggests your playing against lesser opposition all the time, granted it might have been a one day thing, but the one more than you is a boast of being able to overcome any challenger.

@@Isleofskye to be honest I haven't got a clue if we technically own the stadium again because it's been so complicated with club owners and stadium owners being different (I think we do though). All I know is that with the chairman we have now, he owns the club itself 100% after buying the last remaining shares recently, changed the company name back to its original state which is a massive positive for the future. He's also a local businessman so has roots. Even if we don't get promoted the turn around has been phenomenal, five years ago in league two not knowing if we will survive at all. And we had the best help ever from Birmingham who gave us a place to play our home games.. Imagine being helped out by a local rival. American's "we're the freest country on the planet, we can say almost anything we like" Also American's (if they stole our chants correctly) security comes along and drags you out of the stadium, the police come and drag your ass off to jail. English fans singing these chants, not one single eyebrow raised by the security, stewards or police at the grounds. Now, the reason for the 2 completely opposing events happening, American's believe that ANYTHING said to them is a personal attack and the "offender(s) MUST be punished, meanwhile in England, even if the song is a VERY personal one to you or your family, we have the common sense to know that it's all said in jest, winding up the opposition and their fans, taking the piss out of them, but no0one takes it seriously. There are one or two occasions when it is taken seriously, not just by the fans, but by the clubs involved and the police, is when the mindless minority of people, I won't call them fans as they clearly aren't fans, they're mindless morons who try to take the piss out of the devastating events of Munich (for Manchester United) and Hillsborough (for Liverpool) and as huge a rivalry as there is between those 2 clubs, genuine supporters of both come together on the anniversaries of those tragedies/ Apart from those, and one or two other less well known events, almost anything goes with our fans and their chants

The 'Adams Family Chant' I believe was directed at 'Kidderminster Football Club' who family oriented fans call themselves 'the kiddy family' The 'Harry Potter' chant was because the fans thought one of their players looked like Voldermort. Exactly, both sides would turf him out, as a disgrace to a footy chant, might get a few slaps too?

When I started going to football in the mid eighties it was far more brutal than it is now,on the terraces packed together you saw the same faces every other week and songs were made up off the cuff,if an opposing player had been in the papers they got annihilated and often the crowd really got under their skin I saw David Beckham have a nightmare because of the stick the crowd were giving his wife.Great fun back in the day.😂

The best one will always be Andy Goram, there’s a common chant “there’s only one ” which is a common positive chant. Well poor Andy Goram got diagnosed with schizophrenia so fans took to singing “there’s only two Andy Goram” 😂

I remember Hearts v Celtic & giving Jonathan Gould who was in goal for Celtic absolute dogs abuse. Tbf he took well & gave a bit back. At HT he was subbed through injury. His deputy got same treatment but didn't take as well. He got really agitated which gave us the green light to crank up the abuse. It was funny. The abuse really rattled him which certainly helped with a rare win against Celtic.

Classic British terrace culture. Some of these are fairly tame to be fair. Ripping the piss out of the opposition at any and all opportunity is a Saturday afternoon treat.

In the UK anything other the some extreme hard racism is a go. U could go to a game just to listen to the fans over the game itself sometimes. Anything goes and if your team sucks in a game u can bet the fans will make a chant humiliating there own team and players for it.

What's cool is a lot of the chants use tunes we all know. (There's a number of Welsh ones that are perfect for it). If you have the balls, you shout the words of your chant out to the tune. about 2 seconds later (if the fans like it) the whole side of a stadium is singing your lyrics😂👍

Imagine you’re laying on a stretcher, you’re a gone for months, perhaps the rest of the season, perhaps you’ve an injury that you’re gonna be there to some extent forever… and then they all chant in unison like that… it’s so unreasonable 😂😂😂 But on the other hand, you have to admire the ingenuity, and the fact that they can just come up with something on the spot, and everyone is just on board.

Football in the uk it not a sport it a way of life there is a famous saying made by bill shankley "Football is a matter of life and death it more important than that" most fans have been supporting their favourite teams since they are born because their parents make the loyalty to their teams go in their blood there have been times where groups of mens are in the pub and all they r doing is watchin footy and talking about footy for hours and hours they will literally talk bout nothing else apart from whose round of drinks is next

I was at Old Trafford for the Chesterfield v Middlesbrough FA cup Semi final years ago. Chesterfield were robbed. I've been to Old Trafford lots of times when my team, Sheffield Wednesday were up there doing well. I still remember Brian Kidd rushing into the pitch, because you had to beat us for a chance to stay in the title race. You were very lucky, and went on to win the title. Two great goals very late on from Mark Hughes, to win 2-1. Wednesday were a bit of a bogey team to you back then. Great ground, amazing fans.

Hopefully we'll be up there again in a couple of years. What a play off semi final we've just witnessed over the 2 legs. Made history. And 96 points and not getting automatic promotion was heartbreaking. We hit a bad spot after beating Newcastle United in the cup. Got too big for our boots
