Back in the 90s Orange and Apple Tango was amazing, it was easily one of the best soft drinks you could buy. Sadly like most fizzy drinks in the U.K. they’ve had the sugar replaced with horrible sweeteners and just don’t taste the same any more.
@Mermiam4 ай бұрын
Heart breakingly factual. God I miss those old drinks.
@wulfgold4 ай бұрын
That's not true, you can still get full-fat - just that due to changing sales the sugar-free get more sales-space. You're probably grabbing the 1st one you see + assuming it's full-fat, that's probably 1x facing vs 2-3 facings of sugar-free. Slowly we're getting a bit more health conscious. I'm a diabetic, so "learned to like" the sugar-free/zero flavours, but if I've got low blood-sugar, I NEED the full-fat version + still available. AVOID caffeine-free though, that's really horrible.
@thecornedbeefcouncil97924 ай бұрын
@@wulfgold no that’s incorrect, I haven’t just been ‘grabbing’ the wrong can for the last 20 years. Both Orange Tango and Apple Tango have changed in flavour and the drive to reduce sugar on food and drink has caused this. I’m not saying it’s a bad thing btw, I think it’s important to try to be as healthy as possible BUT it does mean that the quality has gone down….but only for people like me. @raivedarkstone73783 ай бұрын
Our ad's in the 80's and 90's were wild, they didn't give a daaaaamn!, as someone below said, that slapping advert at the beginning of the video actually had to get pulled because kids in school were "Tangoing" each other and rupturing each others eardrums. All of these adverts were live and real, all of the numbers were genuine and worked, the apple one had the apple's voice talking filth at you down the phone if you called it. I actually still have one of those little Tangoman toys in my attic, I managed to acquire it by me and my buddies p*ssing off a bunch of binmen (garbage men) that had one stuck on their wagon (was kinda custom to cable tie toys they found to their trucks to the point he threw it at me in rage, so I kept it, that thing with the blue hair was genuinely terrifying too. The raunchier adverts sometimes had a 9pm watershed though, bloody Mary Whitehouse! There was like a mini war between flavours and that Blackcurrant advert with the boxing ring is on the white cliffs of Dover, literally just on the coast to France. Oh and at 24:35 that is indeed James Corden the TV host and I think I still have one of those megaphones too, they were annoying as hell and battery powered. Hope you guys make it to the UK, if you do, swing by Glastonbury and meet the brummie wizard Merlin, don't forget to get yourselves a Greggs, try Sausage rolls, cornish pasties, pork pies, fish and chips with curry sauce, a traditional English fry up for breakfast, a Sunday roast/carvery and if you're my neck of the woods, you HAVE to try the Cider.

The subtlety of the 'sprouts' ad is that the Tango campaigns had become so well known they didn't even need to feature the brand. The orange on the donkey's hooves and the surreal scenario with the kick in the face were enough for everyone to know what it was really about. It also played on the fact that many people don't like sprouts (I love them), so there's more of that British self-deprecating humour going on. A brand that can laugh at itself and laugh with us as we laugh at ourselves is onto a winner over here.
