Some British adverts were absolute gold. Tango did start as Orange but now it's got loads of flavours. They had to stop the big slap adverts because kids were slapping the crap out of each other and screaming "You've been Tango'd!"

Our ad's in the 80's and 90's were wild, they didn't give a daaaaamn!, as someone below said, that slapping advert at the beginning of the video actually had to get pulled because kids in school were "Tangoing" each other and rupturing each others eardrums. All of these adverts were live and real, all of the numbers were genuine and worked, the apple one had the apple's voice talking filth at you down the phone if you called it. I actually still have one of those little Tangoman toys in my attic, I managed to acquire it by me and my buddies p*ssing off a bunch of binmen (garbage men) that had one stuck on their wagon (was kinda custom to cable tie toys they found to their trucks to the point he threw it at me in rage, so I kept it, that thing with the blue hair was genuinely terrifying too. The raunchier adverts sometimes had a 9pm watershed though, bloody Mary Whitehouse! There was like a mini war between flavours and that Blackcurrant advert with the boxing ring is on the white cliffs of Dover, literally just on the coast to France. Oh and at 24:35 that is indeed James Corden the TV host and I think I still have one of those megaphones too, they were annoying as hell and battery powered. Hope you guys make it to the UK, if you do, swing by Glastonbury and meet the brummie wizard Merlin, don't forget to get yourselves a Greggs, try Sausage rolls, cornish pasties, pork pies, fish and chips with curry sauce, a traditional English fry up for breakfast, a Sunday roast/carvery and if you're my neck of the woods, you HAVE to try the Cider.

That's not true, you can still get full-fat - just that due to changing sales the sugar-free get more sales-space. You're probably grabbing the 1st one you see + assuming it's full-fat, that's probably 1x facing vs 2-3 facings of sugar-free. Slowly we're getting a bit more health conscious. I'm a diabetic, so "learned to like" the sugar-free/zero flavours, but if I've got low blood-sugar, I NEED the full-fat version + still available. AVOID caffeine-free though, that's really horrible.

@@wulfgold no that’s incorrect, I haven’t just been ‘grabbing’ the wrong can for the last 20 years. Both Orange Tango and Apple Tango have changed in flavour and the drive to reduce sugar on food and drink has caused this. I’m not saying it’s a bad thing btw, I think it’s important to try to be as healthy as possible BUT it does mean that the quality has gone down….but only for people like me. Steve + Lindsay should probably check out the US stars that sneak into UK adverts. It's easy-money, does no harm to their reputation in the US (where it might actually be a negative) and improves their rep here (for being good sports). Kevin Bacon in the phone adverts is a pretty good example* * Bacon got ripped off/scammed by one of his own lawyers so needed paying work quick + did a bunch of lower-budget films to pay the bills.

Tango is basically Fanta for those in the USA but in a variety of flavors. Was that James Corden? Hahahahaha

To the cutest family in the USA 🇺🇸, great reaction 😂 I can’t wait for you to learn about our Garden Centres and to see Lindsay’s reaction to How much we offer in addition to plants and flowers 💐….if you ever visit a garden centre when you visit the UK 🇬🇧 I really don’t like your chances of getting Lindsay out once she sees everything 😂

Thanks, Janine! It's definitely on our list of things to check out. Not sure I want her knowing about them, though 😅

I love it when you and Lindsay do these reaction videos together. I can’t quite decide which was funnier; the adverts or your reactions to them, but either way, you had me in stitches.

The spectacled guy in the shopping centre wearing the orange pants on the still Tango ad, starred in a British soap opera called Eastenders. So even though you wont recognise him, some of us will. His character name was Lofty & he was on the program in the 1980's.

WHAT?! NO Kevin feeling the hit of the whole fruit in the church? BLASPHEMY! That was one of my favorite ones too, was happily waiting for it, and it never came!

There was a series of those tango adds where the orange guy slaps the actors face, but they were banned after a while and replaced with other silly stuff like the balloon etc because school kids were going round "Tangoing" each other (slapping them) complaint were made that it was a bad influence lol

These are from the 90's & the tag line 'you know when you've been tangoed' is still said. Especially if someone's fake tan has gone wrong😂😂 🍊

These adds were especially made for people who came home from a night club and sat down at the TV and were still buzzing and coming down from the night out. That's what I always thought. 😅😂

The subtlety of the 'sprouts' ad is that the Tango campaigns had become so well known they didn't even need to feature the brand. The orange on the donkey's hooves and the surreal scenario with the kick in the face were enough for everyone to know what it was really about. It also played on the fact that many people don't like sprouts (I love them), so there's more of that British self-deprecating humour going on. A brand that can laugh at itself and laugh with us as we laugh at ourselves is onto a winner over here.
