By the way, the video was VERY simplified and jumped the best part of our history, The Segundo Reinado, which we were blessed to have Dom Pedro II as our emeperor. He did more to Brazil than any other president we had.

The cannibalism in Brazil was very ritualistic, they only 'consumed' strong warriors from rival tribes, in order to earn his strenght by eating his flesh. If the captured warrior showed fear, they would not eat him, or they would inherit his cowardice and weakness. And they never did, because it was considered an honor to be eaten by your enemies, as a show that you were a mighty fighter worthy of being eaten by their entire tribe. The ritual included the captured warrior fasting for a few days, while being 'attended' by the chief's daughter, then eating on the last day before being eaten himself. They would divide his corpse among all members of the tribe, with warriors eating the arms, legs, heart, and the women and children eating fingers, hands, feet, intestines. Before being executed by the tribe's strongest warrior, usually with a blunt blow to the head, he would say to them "As you consume me tonight, so will my tribe consume you one day". There's a few accounts of Europeans who survived being captured by Brazilian cannibals, like Hans Staden. His story is really fascinating.

A minha tese é que ele queria descobrir as terras brasileiras; fez o percurso mais seguro delineado por Vasco da Gama antes de se atirar no mar aberto (o que seria mais inteligente), ou seja, não foi um erro de trajetória. Eu traduzi a legenda em inglês e o final percebi q os americanos aí tem um senso de curiosidade histórica interessante e correto. Eles de certa forma criticaram o vídeo pq é muito, muito mas muito resumido, pq basicamente só falou em colonização e na independência, nada mais.
