Some good observations but there's need for some clarifications. The problem with Kenya is that most of the infrastructure that is laid is not maintained, maintained properly or even at times just poor workmanship or poor materials. It is sad because as you have rightly observed most of the sidewalks have been neglected. The governor of Nairobi is only starting now to lay new cabro works on the worn out sidewalks starting in the CBD and other areas of Nairobi. Nairobi water is portable/safe and I dare say tastes good as catchment areas are from the Kenyan highlands where the water is crisp down the mountain and ranges. The problem is it is not sufficient as Nairobi population has grown and the water infrastructure hasn't kept pace. So borehole water especially in the new buildings have to supplement the county water through the same reticulation system. What you need to ask in any apartment/house is if there's borehole water and if it is treated. So long as you get your water straight from the county government, it is safe to drink and I even saw a study by the US embassy/firm to have found the water to be safe after testing it. We all grew up drinking it even though people also drink bottled water. A majority of Nairobians drink tap water and can't even afford bottled water everyday and they are still here 😂. On matatus you are wrong about them not having designated routes. All matatus have designated routes and it is dispalyed by a number and they have specific terminus/stage. They don't have a schedule but you don't need one because there will always be one available every few minutes. Jaywalking is a thing here and is just our way of life. There are not many traffic lights which just makes it even worse. The driving is a bit chaotic but you'll hardly see any accidents since people are just used to navigate through the roads including pedestrians. Germaine should try matatu at least once just for the experience and the culture and it is way cheaper than Ubers and available everywhere. The nightlife scene in Nairobi is a big thing and if you enjoy nightlife one of the best out there. The nightlife moved from the CBD/town to Nairobi suburbs/neigbourhoods for the most part even though there's still nightlife in the CBD. Westlands and Kilimani neighbourhoods has some of the most vibrant nightlife where party don't stop 😂. Kenya is technologically savvy, we do most stuff online as well. More than 6,000 government services are already online and by end of the year all the 11,000 services should be online if not already. We have Huduma centres (Huduma means service in Kiswahili) where you can get government services at a one stop shop. The problem with Kenya is that corruption is also a big deal and public employees love to be bribed hence the reason these services are being automated is to cut down on bribery/corruption in the public sector. I'll advise as before, just have an open mind, explore more, indulge with the people and culture and soon you will just be like Kenyans even if you have to put up with a few inconveniences or culture shocks. The goal is to shed off the American mindset because you are not in America. Excited to see how your journey pans out.

I am a Kenyan living in the US for the last 20 years. I don’t drink tap water. There parts of the city I wouldn’t freely venture or live. There certain public schools I wouldn’t take my kids. But I embrace the lifestyle here now that I live here. Listening to you guys, I get the impression that you guys expect US experiences and conveniences forgetting that you are in a totally different country. You (especially the guy) sound very indignant to many things; traffic, sidewalks, matatu, etc. You have been in the country for a very short time. I think you have not been there long enough to know what you don’t know currently. That takes time. Decide whether you are going to embrace the experiences you have in kenya or not. You can’t have it both ways. FYI: those matatus have specific routes. Try any and you will find they use a specific route each and every day. They operate with a system called SACCO with membership rules that they must follow. Yes, there many shortcomings in Kenya but so is the USA and every country. Otherwise, I hope you will let go your indignations and enjoy Kenya.

I commit to monitoring your videos and offering feedback as necessary. It is my belief that the issue of water quality is not prevalent in my current location, particularly in the general Nairobi area. Having been born and raised in Nairobi, I acknowledge that, while I do not entirely dismiss the claim, the majority of Nairobi's water is indeed clean and suitable for human consumption. Additionally, outside of Nairobi, the water quality is even better, as evidenced in Nyeri town, where they have been reported to have the cleanest piped water in Kenya, albeit this report dates back several years. I personally consume tap water and have never encountered any problems. Although sporadic reports of water contamination are aired on television, they are typically addressed before escalating. The variability in water quality may be attributed to the use of boreholes; however, I do not consider water quality to be a primary concern. I maintain that the water is safe for consumption.

As far as the Matatus that you described in comparison to NYC. This was the same concept with the dollars vans that we had years ago, the driver was paid by the riders, they also waited for more people to get on the van before they drove off so they can get more money. They did not necessarily have a “route” but they had a specific destination which was the train station. They don’t exist anymore in NYC, but sound very similar to a matatu

@@passportandbeer It's delusional for you, it is patriotic for the rest of us. You just need to leave Kenya to start appreciating small things we take for granted like the communal aspect. Yes, you admire the organization and efficiency out there but social life and culture is a pain out there. I know since I lived in Australia for 5 years and couldn't wait to get back home.

My best advice to you is, rent a house in the city then buy a land in the rural and build a beautiful home for yourself where one day you will be buried because it's not good to be buried in a Cemetry here in Africa, that show a sign of homelessness.

That's an African mindset. They are American. In US people bury at cemeteries it's normal. (Many even buy a plot at the cemetery in advance while they're alive). Why would they plan to build or be buried at some random rural area that's not even their home country? Who are they building the house in the village for?
