In this video, we break down our second month’s budget living as expats in Nairobi, Kenya, following the slow travel lifestyle. We’re sharing the real cost of living in Nairobi, from rent and utilities to groceries, transportation, and fun activities around the city. You’ll see how our expenses here compare to our previous life in the U.S., with some surprising differences! Thanks for watching.

I am a frugal Kenyan watching from diaspora. Watch out for lifestyle creep, where the more money you make means spending more money. If you want to be wealthy, save the extra money, instead of moving to a more expensive neighborhood. Good to hear you are young empty nesters, glad you chose Kenya, glad you are in great health, glad you are still frugal. With the lower cost of living, you stand to accumulate wealth. Are you mortgage free on your house in US?
@TravelCheckIns14 күн бұрын
Thanks so much for the feedback. We’re almost mortgage free. However, our tenant rent pays our mortgage and then some.

Saidah and Germaine, Hi there, Please make a complete detailed video on the insurance Safety Wing. Thank you for your informative videos on Kenya.
@TravelCheckIns12 күн бұрын
There are already some great video on KZbin on the subject. Since we don’t have experience using Safety Wing services, we don’t have any value to add on the subject. We watched some videos, read some reviews and chose Safety Wing from that research. There is a guy in Thailand who had a really good break down. I recommend checking his video out.

Kenya is visa free. and $2200 for rent in Kenya is a lot. You would rather buy a house or an apartment
@TravelCheckIns12 күн бұрын
It may be called by a different name but essentially it’s the same as a visa.

Hey guys! What does this grocery budget constitute when you are already eating out in restaurants? Is it fruits or what is it? Kindly clarify for us coz it's kinda confusing especially with such high budget for the groceries. Thanks. Greetings from Nakuru City in the Rift Valley.
@TravelCheckIns15 күн бұрын
Great question! We buy things for breakfast mostly, water delivery, snacks and produce. So think of things like cereal, oats, fruit, juice, bagels, jam, etc. That’s why we barely spent our full grocery budget.
@nzavali005 күн бұрын
Wow! $2200.00. That's a whole lot. That's a mortgage payments. I know you can get a house in kileleshwa for less than that.

I heard we can, but that’s not what we’re looking for right now. Maybe later on down the line.

You seem to be a very loving, decent, adorable & honest couple … but $2,200 for rent is way too, too high … that’s exorbitant!!😩 … you can half that cost easily & still get decent american-like amenities … God bless your endeavours!😇
@TravelCheckIns14 күн бұрын
What’s exorbitant for you doesn’t equate to exorbitant for someone else. Feel free to recommend an apartment you believe may suite our needs and we’d gladly take a look. At this point, we’ve found what we were looking for in accommodations. Thanks for the feedback and for watching.

We’ve seen a few, but nothing we wanted to live in. We also pay a bit more because we have a furnished vs. unfurnished apartment. We receive a lot of benefits staying here so it works for us right now.
