A very good - and late - friend of mine was in a Lancaster that got shot down, a rear gunner. Lucky to survive. One of my uncles had the very gruesome task of having to clean out some of those that made it back. My friend was a POW for the rest of the war. He made it to his half-century celebration of being shot down and passed away three years later. In his later years, he spent his time making weathervanes in his garden shed, some of which I designed for him. I always remember his rich Lancashire accent and if I came back with a design that was too complicated, he would say, "Oh dear, no, no! Just remember, I have to cut all that out in metal!" I soon got the hang of it not being ornate! Quick and simple. He could draw them out himself if he found a handy silhouette, but he would come to me if he couldn't. It was fun.

Hey guys, you were walking on the path of the closed March - Spalding railway. The old building at Twenty Foot River, where you wondered what it was, was an old goods shed at the north end of what was once a huge marshalling yard (switching yard) named Whitemoor Yard that stretched all the way from here to March.

Ring's End, Wisbech. I was born in Wisbech & lived in Upwell during the mid 1950s. In the same village lived my maternal grandparents & my maternal Great grandmother, along with my great uncles & great aunts. In the next village, Outwell, lived my paternal grandparents plus my paternal great grand mother. Though they're all long gone, I still have many cousins living all around that area from Three Holes over to Downham Mkt, imcluding March & Welney, and places in between. In fact my uncle lived in the cottage at the head of Welney Bridge, which crosses the River New Bedford River. There's a wildlife place just up Station Road where my aunt worked during the 60s & 70s. I've just renenbered there's also a Nature Reserve over by Ring's End nr, Hobbs Bridge, I think. Been a few years since i was up that way.

This brought back memories from my childhood. We used to visit my grandmother in Oxfordshire and she took us to some of the many pick-your-own places. I always ate more then I put into the tubs, but my grandmother was a fantastic baker and worked magic with anything foraged from hedgerows. I spent most of my summers wandering the fields and footpaths before returning to London. Great memories. Lovely touch with stopping the music for the Wellington memorial, by the way. A nice show of respect. X.

As they say we don’t know what we don’t know. I pride myself on knowing the British Isles. Aside from your content being heart warming family orientated. I think you were on part of the former March/Wisbech rail line, which is currently being looked at for re-opening, it having been closed to passengers since '68. Thank you so, so much, for sharing those brave aviators who were lost to us during war time training. I never heard of this memorial though now greatful you have shared the moment with us all. Hedgerow fruit are a shear delight. Many, like me, call blackberries BRAMBLES, a nicer name, I think. A dragon fly is a marvellous sight, one worth studying and delighting in, as their lives are so short. Yuck, dog poo is a common curse, thankfully, one most caring and considerate dog owners take responsibility for. I do think you'll all love a canal holiday, and all the work and scenery involved. Never fear, the monk jack dear are small, cute deer, and harmless. Chris has excelled in this episode, with camera and aeronautical work. A pro, for sure. The UK public footpath network is a real treasure. We, as a nation, are very lucky, though, sadly, we do not always recognise the delights we have. The footpaths are best enjoyed in the summer months, when a visit to the local hostelry or PUB with fine ale, can be appreciated in full. You all stay well, safe, and happy, no matter where you may be. Mark x

You are more than welcome. We are glad you came along with and were able to enjoy the video as much as we did. Coming across the memorial was an amazing surprise. Being able to shine a light honoring them and making it known even to one other person makes us very pleased. Brambles is a nice name to have for them, we might have to use that instead. We love seeing dragon flies for sure, the way they interact with nature is amazing. Dog pop is unfortunate, but yes at least the majority of dog owners take care of that. I try and tell her all the time, there's nothing to worry about the monk jack, but she still does not like they way they look. Thanks for the kind words, I have been trying to continually get better, might not always happen but at least the attempt is there. We plan on checking out some more trails and if they happen to lead to a pub, that would be just fine too! Take care, until next time. Cheers, Chris

Paying for Blackberries is pointless when they grow wild everywhere, you're welcome to the ones in my garden, they've become rampant this year, unfortunately only fruit on the previous year's growth. Completely cleared them and dug the roots up 2 years ago but one can't stop birds from depositing the seeds. A couple of Sycamore trees have also appeared, might keep them and pollard when too tall and wide. It's somewhat of a natural and wild garden, less work.

When picking blackberries in the wild along our country lanes, avoid the low-hanging fruit. Dogs and the occasional human coming home from the pub may have stopped for a call of nature. That memorial stop was very moving. I am guessing that the straight path next to it was the old railway track. You make a lovely photogenic couple. Seeing your videos makes me appreciate the public footpaths that we have, without which access to these areas would be difficult. Stay safe.

That dreadful moment when the Wellington Bomber crew realised their plane was about to crash must of been frightening but I hope it was quick and none of them suffered in the crash. Many years ago when I use to drive a car, my car collided with a speeding motorcycle coming up from behind when I was indicating to turn right. There was a blind spot behind me and a bend on the road and I couldn’t see anything coming up from behind when I checked my mirrors. I also had a speeding motorcycle on my left side at the same time. Things like that and listening to the story about the Wellington Bombers make you realise how fragile life really is. That being said, it’s a beautiful memorial that has been honoured by the RAF… Also, I’m 52 now Jess & Chris and I remember fondly when I was growing up, in the 1980s when my mum & dad and my older twin brothers and two sisters. We would take a Sunday drive from London to Kent to go Hop Picking, and when I was there I remember noticing old, disused hop picker huts that was buried in-between the overgrown weeds. :)
